Chapter 68: Understanding Credits
by tinytreeAt Yinshuang Academy, credits were extremely important and served multiple purposes. Different amounts of credits determined the quality of food one could eat in the cafeteria and the goods one could buy in the supermarket.
Credits reset at the end of each semester.
At the start of a new semester, students earned them through practical tasks. Afterward, the main way to acquire credits was through the arena, as matches there were wagered with credits. Credits could also be earned through academic excellence, with rewards given by instructors.
The academy rarely expelled a student. As a result, a student’s credits never fell below sixty. If a student with sixty credits lost more, they had to compensate through other means, which generally involved doing work around the academy.
Because of this system, credits had essentially become a currency within Yinshuang Academy. There were good students and bad ones. Those with sixty credits who frequently got reported for misconduct could lose credits. Not wanting to face penalties, these students often resorted to buying credits at the rate of ten thousand yuan per credit. Over time, this practice had become somewhat normalized.
However, not everyone could participate in credit trading. Only students with fewer than seventy credits could buy credits, and only those with more than one hundred and fifty credits could sell them.
The academy prohibited private fights. If caught, the penalty was a deduction of twenty credits. Instead, the arena was used for such conflicts.
The academy maintained an arena ranking system. Those ranked in the top thousand had to accept challenges from lower-ranked students. Conversely, higher-ranked students could only challenge lower-ranked ones with their consent. Students outside the top thousand had fewer restrictions, a duel could occur as long as both parties agreed.
Listening to Xing Yuxiu’s explanation, Shi Ji understood.
He thought back to the advice Lin Xinyan had given him about earning more credits. If he had taken her advice and done more tasks, he might have had a substantial credit reserve by now.
However, it wasn’t too late to start. One credit for ten thousand yuan. He couldn’t help but grin.
“Hey, Shi Ji, the opponent is from Class A, and they are quite strong. Can you really win?” Xing Yuxiu asked, concerned about Shi Ji’s nonchalant attitude.
The other students from Class B were also worried.
Shi Ji shook his head, smiling confidently. “No problem, trust me.”
The others were unsure where his confidence came from, but considering he had been at the Star Hero Academy before, they hoped he had some skill.
Yinshuang Academy was vast, and because of the importance of credits, the arena had become the largest building. It could supposedly accommodate ten thousand people. With only four thousand students in the entire academy, how could it fit ten thousand?
Upon arriving, Shi Ji realized the arena was divided into sections based on the level of the match. Each area was relatively independent.
Before the duel could begin, they had to register and confirm the wager amount.
Since Shi Ji was ranked outside the top thousand, the default wager was two credits, the minimum standard.
Two credits, twenty thousand yuan… quite a bit of money.
Before the match began, Shi Ji’s gaze turned to the leading male student, remembering his harsh words.
“Hey, hey, I don’t usually bully girls. How about you and I have a go first?”
