Chapter 73: The World Needs Heroes

Up until now, Shi Ji still wasn’t very familiar with Yinshuang Academy. So when Lin Xinyan wanted to take him somewhere, he had no clue where they were going.

Just as he was thinking that Lin Xinyan mentioned she had other things to discuss, now seemed like a good time.

“You said you had something to ask me earlier. You can ask now.”

Shi Ji being so proactive surprised Lin Xinyan a bit. She had planned to wait until they were done with their errands. But since Shi Ji asked, she decided to address it.

She turned to Shi Ji, her expression slightly more serious.

“When you acted like that, what were you thinking?”

Shi Ji knew exactly what she was referring to.

He fully trusted Lin Xinyan and didn’t hide anything. 

Smiling, he replied, “I wasn’t thinking about anything. That’s just my usual style. When I see people I don’t like, I want to teach them a lesson.”

At this point, Shi Ji suddenly realized something.

“Oh, of course, that doesn’t include you, Lin Xinyan. I mean most of the people in A class.”

Lin Xinyan understood what Shi Ji meant. Seeing him clarify, she couldn’t help but laugh.

“It’s okay, I get it. The class A students do have an arrogant mindset, but it’s even more prevalent in the Star Hero Academy, right?”

Shi Ji knew very well that Lin Xinyan wasn’t an arrogant person. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have felt guilty about being promoted to A-rank after fighting the anomalies.

He nodded in agreement.

“Yes, there are more in the Star Hero Academy. A large number of them don’t have the resolve to become heroes. They just enjoy the privileges of being rare stars and the superiority that comes with their rankings. The world is vast, and it’s not limited to just that small place.”

“So you left because there were too many people you disliked there?” she asked.

Shi Ji chuckled lightly. “Not exactly. That academy is way too strict, doesn’t give you any freedom.”

Shi Ji referred to the prestigious academy that was admired by many, as a lousy academy.

“They expelled me for lacking motivation and disrupting others. Looking back, it’s funny. Many at the Star Hero Academy are unmotivated, basking in their own superiority. But they’re smart about it, not as blatant as I was. I was smart too, smart enough to escape that hellhole.”

Shi Ji’s unique perspective once again reshaped Lin Xinyan’s understanding of him.

“I never imagined that an academy admired by so many could be dismissed by you as worthless.”

Shi Ji chuckled and turned the question back to Lin Xinyan.

“What about you? Why didn’t you go to the Star Hero Academy?”

Lin Xinyan replied, “Ironically, for the same reason as you. The restrictions there are too suffocating, and the atmosphere isn’t as good as a regular academy.”

Those who longed for the Star Hero Academy were usually ordinary cadets with common hero constitutions. Rare star constitution holders could go directly to the Star Hero Academy, while those with common constitutions needed a recommendation to get in. This created a situation where common star cadets often worked much harder.

Looking at Lin Xinyan, Shi Ji felt a sense of familiarity.

“Xinyan, what made you decide to become a hero? Even with a star constitution, it’s not necessary to become a hero, right?”

Lin Xinyan responded straightforwardly, “Because this world needs heroes.”
