Chapter 156: Two Types of Heroes
by tinytreeWith someone taking care of the monster, Shi Ji couldn’t be happier. His main concern right now was the money—figuring out how to open the safe and smoothly get his hands on it.
Even though there was a battle happening right in front of him, Shi Ji was still sitting comfortably on the side, fully focused on his task. Not many people could stay so calm in a situation like this, worrying only about their own business.
Of course, it wasn’t like Shi Ji wasn’t paying attention to the fight. While money was important, if danger came too close… well, actually, money still seemed more important. In short, as long as he was sure the money was safe in his hands, he’d consider fighting the monster if he had to.
The C-level hero named Regular A really lived up to his name. His attacks were as basic as they come. But despite their simplicity, his strikes packed quite a punch.
The grotesque creature, which was classified as a demon-level monster, was getting hacked apart by Regular A’s enormous broadsword.
Several parts of its body had already sustained significant damage, leaving it defenseless under Regular A’s relentless assault.
Boom!
After about ten minutes of intense fighting, the demon-level monster collapsed to the ground with a thunderous crash.
The battle was over.
Regular A sheathed his broadsword, securing it into a custom lock on his back.
Weapons as large as his often caused all sorts of inconveniences when carried out in the open. Most star-powered heroes could use their star energy to break their weapons down into particles, making it easy to reassemble them when needed. However, some heroes preferred to keep their weapons visible for aesthetic reasons or to boost their image.
Regular A would’ve liked to store his weapon away too, as carrying it around all the time caused plenty of trouble. But he didn’t have that option. He wasn’t a star-powered hero like Shi Ji and the others and thus lacked such special abilities. That was why his attacks were simple and direct, earning him the nickname Regular A.
Regular A’s strength came entirely from his rigorous physical training, not from any innate abilities.
While tinkering with the safe, Shi Ji noticed Regular A’s ordinary physique. He had a deep respect for the C-level hero. People like Regular A, without special powers, often seemed more down-to-earth and genuine. They were more worthy of admiration than star-powered heroes.
In the Star Alliance, heroes with ordinary physiques like Regular A were not rare. In fact, there were quite a few, with some, like Alloy, even advancing to A-rank hero status thanks to advanced technology and equipment.
Regular A thought that Shi Ji had long since fled, but after sheathing his broadsword and turning around, he was surprised to see Shi Ji still sitting nearby, focused intently on fiddling with a small safe.
Seeing this, Regular A was taken aback.
“That guy’s got some guts.”
He waved at Shi Ji.
“Hey, man, what are you doing?”
Shi Ji only glanced up briefly before going right back to his task.
Curious, Regular A strode over.
“This place is really dangerous, I suggest you leave as soon as possible.”
Shi Ji continued ignoring him.
Regular A sat down beside Shi Ji, watching as he toyed with the safe.
“The thing we just fought was probably a demon-class anomaly monster. It was really dangerous. That thing you’re messing with looks tough too. You might want to figure it out elsewhere.”
Finally, Shi Ji responded.
“To me, there are only two kinds of monsters.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“Ones that are alive, and ones that are dead. The living ones aren’t scary, and there’s no need to say much about the dead ones.”
Regular A found Shi Ji’s words strange.
Given the constant threat of danger in the city, Regular A didn’t want to linger. He pulled out a simple piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Shi Ji.
“This is my card. C-level hero, Regular A—just so you know.”
Shi Ji didn’t reach for it, so Regular A placed it down next to him.
“Take care of yourself. I’m heading out.”
As Regular A left, he heard one last comment from Shi Ji behind him.
“To me, there are also only two kinds of heroes. Competent ones and incompetent ones. You’re one of the competent ones.”
Regular A responded with a big smile and gave him a thumbs-up.
“Thanks!”
Regular A walked away, unaware that just ten minutes later, another anomaly would appear in the same square.
