Chapter 222: Let’s Go Somewhere and Kiss
by tinytreeThe case details were clear now. Wang Mei was indeed murdered, but not by Yu Shaoyang.
Was Yu Shaoyang innocent?
Not entirely.
First off, he harbored the intent to kill his ex-girlfriend. He wanted to end her life. It just so happened that Peng Junlong, along with Second Brother and Third Brother, caught wind of it.
The rest? Well, you can imagine.
So, Yu Shaoyang couldn’t escape being charged with attempted murder.
When an avalanche happens, is any snowflake truly innocent?
Exactly.
If Yu Shaoyang hadn’t developed that murderous intent, hadn’t gone back to the villa with Wang Mei, and hadn’t allowed Second Brother and Third Brother to see it all.
Maybe, just maybe, Wang Mei wouldn’t have died.
But, Xiao Yu had another theory.
As he originally deduced, Wang Mei was a green tea girl. And green tea types care deeply about their outward image.
Would a woman like that still go out of her way to cause a scene with Yu Shaoyang, yelling and making a fuss after a breakup? Didn’t that seem odd?
‘Is it possible that Wang Mei’s loud confrontations with Yu Shaoyang were all orchestrated by Second Brother and Third Brother?
‘The goal? To lure Yu Shaoyang into their twisted game, using Wang Mei as bait to satisfy their psychopathic desires and ultimately commit murder?
‘Maybe the entire reason for that villa’s existence was to satisfy those dark fantasies?
‘That could also explain why Second Brother gave the villa to Wang Mei in the first place. Because Wang Mei had been their target all along.’
This explanation made sense. It was the most reasonable deduction.
So, where did Wang Mei’s body go?
Xiao Yu forced that thought out of his mind.
No more disgusting thoughts. Especially now that his wife had arrived with dinner.
Xiao Yu was worried that if he kept dwelling on it, he wouldn’t be able to eat at all.
The cause of Wang Mei’s death had been solved. What remained was the manhunt for Second Brother and Third Brother.
No rush though. Dinner first.
***
Nighttime.
A warm breeze filled the air.
At the entrance of the Criminal Investigation Unit, a young couple sat on the steps. A subtle sense of warmth surrounded them.
“Eat slower!”
Like a doting mother, Mu Qingwu gently scolded as she wiped the bits of rice off her husband’s face with a napkin. She couldn’t quite remember when she had started looking after Xiao Yu with such ease, but it had become second nature to her now.
Her tender gaze, soft as water, glimmered like jewels submerged in a shallow lake. Her fluttering eyelashes gave her an air of mesmerizing beauty.
“Hehe!”
Xiao Yu chuckled and continued scarfing down his meal.
Mu Qingwu shook her head helplessly, smiling as she watched him eat. Her crescent-shaped eyes curved with laughter, resembling a serene beauty straight out of a painting.
*Wow, my wife’s just too pretty.*
As he chewed, Xiao Yu couldn’t help but stare at Mu Qingwu, a smile stretching across his face.
But it wasn’t just about her beauty. There was something about her gentle nature, the kind that reminded a man of a childhood crush or a girl-next-door kind of feeling. Memories of a similar idea from his past life surfaced in Xiao Yu’s mind.
“Married this long, and you still can’t get enough of looking at me?”
Mu Qingwu shot him a playful glare, a teasing smile on her lips.
“Eat your food.”
“I was just thinking about something fun,” Xiao Yu mumbled through a mouthful of rice, his grin wide. “What if we hadn’t gotten married so soon? Like, if I started out as your boyfriend instead. Would there have been any perks to being your boyfriend?”
“Perks for being a boyfriend?”
Mu Qingwu’s lips curved, rosy like cherries, tempting enough to steal a kiss.
Xiao Yu held back. If he wasn’t in the middle of eating, he would’ve already gone for it.
“Nope, you have to say something,” he muttered, his mouth still full. “I never got to experience being your boyfriend. It might be too late now, but I still want to know. Give me some closure for the boyfriend stage I missed out on.”
“Hah!” Mu Qingwu let out a charming laugh, giving her younger brother a teasing look. “Being my boyfriend, huh… you could add any pretty girls you want, play games in the middle of the night with whoever you like, and hang out with any girls you want. And when you’re tired, just call me.”
“What? Seriously?” Xiao Yu’s face lit up with excitement. “But, why would I call you when I’m tired? To play more games?”
“Heh!” Mu Qingwu’s flirtatious expression shifted into a cold, queen-like smirk as her delicate hand pinched his cheek. “Of course, you’d call me… to bury you!”
Xiao Yu, “…”
‘Definitely overstepped there.’
“And next time you even think about it,” Mu Qingwu imitated their mother-in-law, pinching his ear playfully. “I’ll knock some sense into you.”
“Okay, okay, I was wrong. I won’t think like that again,” Xiao Yu quickly begged for mercy.
Releasing him, Mu Qingwu scolded lightly, “Eat your food.”
After quickly finishing off the meal she’d brought, Xiao Yu stood up and took Mu Qingwu’s hand.
“Come on, let’s go find a place to kiss.”
Mu Qingwu, “…”
At this point, she didn’t even know how to react to his shamelessness.
“Is my dear wife embarrassed?” Xiao Yu teased with a mischievous grin.
“We’re in public, can you tone it down?”
Mu Qingwu, caught between laughter and frustration, felt both shy and helpless.
“So what? We’re married,” Xiao Yu chuckled. “If I miss my wife, I’ve got to say it. If I want to kiss her, I’ve got to say it too. Otherwise, what’s the point of missing you?”
“You’re such a rogue!” Mu Qingwu stood up and sighed. “Always teasing me.”
“Of course.” Xiao Yu grinned widely. “And I’ll keep teasing you for a lifetime.”
“Aren’t you afraid I’ll get tired of it and leave?”
Mu Qingwu’s eyes sparkled with a playful glint.
“Afraid of what?” Xiao Yu grinned smugly, locking eyes with Mu Qingwu. “As long as your heart keeps beating, you can’t run away.”
“I don’t know where you learned to say stuff like that.” Mu Qingwu’s face softened into a sweet smile. “Go to work already.”
“Wait a sec, I need to talk to my baby first.”
Dropping to one knee in front of her, Xiao Yu pressed his ear against Mu Qingwu’s belly, chuckling like a fool as he murmured, “Baby, be good for Mommy, okay? When Daddy’s not around, you have to listen to her and not give her any trouble. Got it?”
“Haha…”
Mu Qingwu laughed, looking down at her suddenly childish brother. Her eyes overflowed with warmth as she gently stroked Xiao Yu’s short hair, her voice tender.
“Our baby won’t be like you. He’ll definitely not bully Mommy.”
“Don’t be so sure.” Xiao Yu tilted his head up to look at her. “If it’s a boy, he might be even more of a rascal than me.”
“Oh, so you admit you’re bad now?” Mu Qingwu teased.
“What’s wrong with that?” Xiao Yu shrugged, totally unashamed. “If the little brother isn’t bad, the big sister won’t love him.”
“Bad little brother.”
Mu Qingwu’s heart swelled with affection.
“What was that?”
Xiao Yu stood up, curious.
“I want to kiss you.”
Mu Qingwu wrapped her arms around her mischievous brother’s waist.
“Roger that.”
Xiao Yu leaned down, pressing his lips against hers. A warm summer breeze swept past, brushing their cheeks. It carried with it the scent of blossoming flowers as if the world was in full bloom.
Was it the wind that stirred the air?
No, it was their hearts that were moved.
