Chapter 248: King vs. King (Part 2)
by tinytree“Nina Lams!”
Roderick laughed heartily as he slowly approached Nina and Ling, who had just been sent flying by his sword strike.
Although her iconic silver hair had been dyed black, every other feature matched the target’s description, especially that massive greatsword.
“I must admit, I’m surprised you managed to block that strike.”
Roderick shook his head.
Had he grown too complacent these past few years? If the famous Nina Lams had blocked it, he wouldn’t have been too shocked, but for that half-breed to pull it off—now that was completely unexpected.
Since when did these lowly beings dare challenge the might of the elves?
“Ling, are you okay?” Nina got to her feet, sword raised defensively in front of Ling.
“I’m fine.” Ling shook her head and quickly stood up.
If it hadn’t been for Ling throwing her boomerangs in time to block that sword energy, they’d both be out of commission right now.
Nina had taught Ling how to use the boomerang, but she never expected her to become so skilled, and even save her life in such a crucial moment.
“Princess Nina?”
A few of the wolfkin who had been knocked back along with them called out anxiously.
“Go find Daryl! I’ll hold him off!” Nina shouted.
“Hold him off?” Roderick sneered. “Very well. Let’s see what you’ve got.”
Those fleeing wolfkin didn’t matter. From the start, their only real target was Nina Lams.
With a roar, Nina charged at him, sword raised. Though she had never fought a magic swordsman before, she knew one thing for certain—she couldn’t let him unleash another one of those sword energy blasts.
“Good timing.”
Roderick easily dodged Nina’s slash, his rapier snaking through the darkness in a deadly arc, aimed right at her.
With a clang, Nina blocked it with her greatsword. A flash of lightning surged from where their blades met, striking her sword hand and causing her movements to slow for just a moment.
Roderick chuckled. He seized the opportunity to relentlessly press his attack. Every time their swords clashed, another spark of lightning shot into Nina’s hand, sending sharp, needle-like pain through her fingers.
She let out a roar, swinging her greatsword with both hands in a powerful overhead strike. Roderick deftly sidestepped the attack.
“How’s that feeling?” Roderick sneered, confident in his advantage. “Drop your weapon and surrender, and I’ll make sure you don’t suffer before you’re sent to Yamara.”
Nina’s only response was a fierce thrust, followed by a sharp spinning slash.
Roderick flipped backward, putting some distance between them.
“Alright, don’t blame me for what happens next,” he said with a cold smile.
He brought his sword up to his chest and started muttering something under his breath.
Nina rushed at him, but Roderick flipped backward several times, putting a large distance between them. Then, with his left hand, he slowly traced his fingers along the blade. A dazzling silver lightning danced along the edge of his sword.
By this point, Nina already caught up. She swang her greatsword with immense force. She wanted to crush him. This time, however, Roderick didn’t dodge. He gripped his sword with both hands and met her strike head-on.
Sparks flew. Lightning crackled between their blades. The surge of electricity shot through Nina’s hands, causing sharp pain and messing with her swordplay, but she clenched her teeth. She kept up her relentless attack on Roderick.
The sound of their clashing swords filled the air like a storm. Nina’s greatsword moved with impossible speed. It defied logic as it flew through the air, striking at Roderick from every direction. Each hit carried incredible power.
Despite his magical enhancements, Roderick was forced to retreat step by step.
But the constant bolts of lightning streaming along their blades toward Nina made Roderick sneer.
“Nina Lams,” he snarled, “I want to see how long you can keep this up!”
Nina gritted her teeth and let out a furious roar. Her greatsword spun in the air before it came down hard toward Roderick. Roderick didn’t dare to block it head-on and quickly retreated.
Just as he barely moved out of Nina’s reach, countless sharp whistling sounds rushed at him from behind.
Damn it! Someone’s attacking from behind!
Nina’s relentless strikes forced him to stay focused on her. Lings’ flying needles closed in, ready to turn him into a pincushion. Roderick suddenly roared. The lightning on his magical sword exploded. It created a web of electricity around him, forming a barrier that blocked the incoming needles.
Nina’s sword struck the barrier, but all it did was cause sparks to fly, forcing her to step back from the surge of electric current.
In the next moment, Roderick’s sword crackled loudly. A bolt of lightning shot out from its blade, heading straight for Nina. She barely had time to raise her sword to block it before the explosion sent her flying backward.
“The game ends here,” Roderick said, looking slightly disheveled.
Just then, the cry of an eagle echoed from above as Raman arrived, soaring high in the sky.
The massive boomerangs came at Roderick from both sides. He swung his lightning sword, and the powerful electricity struck them, shattering them into pieces.
Ling’s face stiffened for a moment. In the next second, several short spears appeared in front of her, hurling through the darkness toward Roderick.
Lightning flashed once more, forming a barrier that blocked her attack just inches from Roderick’s head.
His face twisted into a snarl, “Half-breed. You’re asking for death.”
Thunder boomed again as a thick bolt of lightning shot straight toward Ling. She barely managed to summon a round shield in front of her before the impact sent her flying backward.
“Ling!”
Nina had just gotten back on her feet and began dragging her sword toward Ling. Meanwhile, the giant eagle finally found a clearing in the woods, allowing Raman to land.
“That necromancer?” Roderick asked.
“He should be on his way,” Raman replied. “Let’s capture Nina Lams first.”
This necromancer might not be here just to save the remaining Silvermoon wolfkin. If they were really in league with the Yagata people, the rescuer could turn into an assassin if things took a bad turn.
Raman tossed a fireball into the sky, signaling the nearby troops to close in. Meanwhile, Roderick raised his sword and slowly advanced toward Nina and Ling.
