Chapter 358: The Sea Draconians
by tinytreeStepping from the cold Northern Wastelands into the warm southern island, the sudden change in temperature and environment made Wu Qingsong feel slightly uncomfortable.
He quickly adjusted himself and, together with Ling, followed the harpies toward the seashore.
It had been four years since he last came here to pick up Red Moon. Time, like flowing water, had slipped away unnoticed, leaving nothing behind.
“The sea tribes returned three years ago,” Mia, speaking on behalf of the Gale Queen, explained while flying beside them.
The last time Wu Qingsong was here to take Red Moon, there were already sea tribes active near the island, but their numbers were not overwhelming.
At that time, the massive penguin army had been enough to drive them away.
However, shortly after Wu Qingsong left, more sea creatures began to settle around the reefs near Gale Island.
At first, the harpies still had the upper hand in these conflicts.
But three years ago, a Murloc Shaman appeared, shifting the balance of power against the harpies.
After all, the harpies’ natural affinity for wind magic was useless against enemies hiding underwater.
Meanwhile, the powerful ocean waves summoned by the murloc shamans—though harmless to the harpies themselves—were devastating to the penguins.
One by one, the Gale Harpies were forced to retreat from their outlying reefs and shallow waters. And as more sea creatures arrived, the harpies had now lost nearly all their maritime territory.
Now, aside from the waters immediately around the island and within the bay, the situation had completely returned to what it was before Wu Qingsong first arrived.
“The situation is even worse than last time,” Mia said with a frown. “This time, they have even stronger forces.”
Standing atop a rocky cliff by the shore, Wu Qingsong looked out to sea.
Far to the west of Gale Island, he could see several blue-and-gold figures basking on the reefs in the morning sunlight. Even from this distance, their bodies looked massive—at least four or five meters long.
“What are those?”
“Sea Draconians,” Mia said.
Wu Qingsong raised an eyebrow in surprise.
He took a spyglass from his backpack and examined the creatures more closely. What he saw reminded him of the Naga—except these were larger, more vicious, and far uglier.
“They use far more powerful magic than the previous murloc shamans,” Mia continued grimly.
“They don’t just summon waves. Even the strongest harpy warriors risk getting impaled by water arrows when they fly close to the sea. Besides water arrows and tidal waves, they also command water tornadoes and water elementals. Whenever a storm approaches, they attack us, sending water elementals onto the island to cause destruction. After you left, they even killed two of the human sailors who stayed behind.”
Mia’s expression was filled with both fear and rage.
It was easy to imagine just how much suffering and pressure the harpies had endured over the past few years.
“I’ll take care of them,” Wu Qingsong assured the harpies. “Don’t worry.”
Four years had passed.
By now, Nagrand had an overwhelming number of devout believers. Among them were many elderly mousefolk. When they passed away, one in every five would leave behind a pure soulstone. Because of this, Wu Qingsong no longer needed to hoard soul fragments like a miser.
At any given time, he carried at least 30 to 40 Soulstones—just in case.
Four years ago, he had only three soulstones when he had fallen into the Abyss, yet it was enough to cause an apocalyptic-level disaster.
There was no reason he couldn’t annihilate these savages now.
Hearing his confident words, the harpies collectively sighed in relief.
Five years was neither a short nor a long time.
But on this isolated island, few events were truly memorable.
Because of this, the things Wu Qingsong did in the past had never faded from their minds.
Due to the sea draconians’ brutality and the harpies’ growing helplessness, some harpies had even exaggerated their memories of Wu Qingsong’s power, turning him into a near-mythical figure.
As his words spread among the harpies, the penguins began to cheer loudly.
Amid their eager anticipation, Wu Qingsong decided to leave the ratmen priests onshore for the time being.
Ling then constructed an airship, and together, they flew directly toward the reefs.
This swift and decisive action made the harpies cheer even louder. Several harpy warriors even volunteered to escort the airship, circling around it as both guides and guards.
“I think the Church will grow quickly here,” Wu Qingsong mused.
By now, the sea draconians basking on the reefs had noticed the massive airship approaching.
They cautiously observed it. But as soon as they realized it was heading straight toward them, they instantly dove into the sea, disappearing from view.
This was where the harpies’ presence became invaluable.
While they couldn’t fly too close to the water, their sharp eyesight allowed them to track the sea draconians beneath the waves. Several harpies let out loud cries and circled a specific area of the sea, indicating the Sea Draconians’ location.
“There!” Wu Qingsong said to Ling.
The airship continued forward.
But suddenly, huge bubbles erupted from the sea.
Two high-speed jets of water shot directly at the airship, smashing against its sides and making it shake violently.
“Ling?” Wu Qingsong asked.
“I’m fine,” Ling replied, shaking her head.
The airship pressed on, but the Sea Draconians had already scattered, rapidly shifting their positions to avoid being targeted.
Not only that, but one harpy flew too close to the sea and was suddenly impaled by a water arrow, plummeting straight into the ocean.
The harpies shrieked in fury and retreated to higher altitudes, but they were powerless against these foes.
Then, suddenly, the Gale Island erupted into chaos.
Wu Qingsong turned his gaze back toward the island and saw several water tornadoes forming inside the bay, hurtling toward the penguinkin-filled beaches.
“Damn it!”
For the first time, Wu Qingsong truly understood how the Flame Demon Lord felt when facing his hit-and-run tactics back in the Abyss.
“We’re going back!” he shouted.
The airship immediately transformed into an aircraft, speeding toward Gale Island.
At the same time, the water tornadoes suddenly collapsed, and the sea draconians disappeared into the deep sea.
As Wu Qingsong and Ling left the reef, the sea draconians climbed back onto the rocks, twisting their grotesque bodies mockingly, as if laughing at them.
“Just you wait,” Wu Qingsong thought, narrowing his eyes. “Don’t celebrate too soon.”
