Chapter 27: The Bun Shop
by tinytreeIt turneout that Lin Xinyan was referring to char siu buns. She mentioned that she often came here whenever she had free time. Upon entering the bun shop, the employees greeted her warmly, confirming her frequent visits.
The specific food wasn’t important to Shi Ji, he just wanted to fill his stomach. Whether the buns had meat or not didn’t matter, although having meat would be a bonus. Knowing that Lin Xinyan was talking about char siu buns, Shi Ji felt excited.
After they sat down, several baskets of char siu buns were quickly brought to their table.
Shi Ji didn’t care about maintaining any sort of image and dove right in, devouring the buns. His ravenous eating style made Lin Xinyan laugh. She didn’t intend to make fun of him, but Shi Ji’s way of eating did resemble that of a pig.
“Eat slowly, don’t choke,” she kindly reminded him, also pouring a glass of water and pushing it towards him.
Taking advantage of the time they had, Lin Xinyan explained about the practice tasks. The main purpose of these tasks was to get students closer to everyday life and bridge the gap between them and ordinary citizens. Once they officially become heroes, they need to prioritize people’s safety at all times. The practice tasks were undoubtedly meant to lay the groundwork for this future responsibility.
Besides explaining these tasks, Lin Xinyan also talked about various aspects related to them, most importantly the issue of credits.
Although everything she said was crucial, Shi Ji focused solely on his food, seeming not to pay much attention.
No, it wasn’t that Shi Ji wasn’t paying attention. He actually didn’t listen at all, only vaguely recalling that Lin Xinyan mentioned some details about the practice tasks. Everything else was a blur.
Seeing Shi Ji like this, Lin Xinyan felt a bit helpless. She couldn’t force him to listen after all.
After a hearty breakfast, Shi Ji sat back, rubbing his full stomach, smiling contentedly. He appeared completely relaxed, having enjoyed the meal immensely. He couldn’t remember the last time he had eaten so well.
Seeing Shi Ji sitting contentedly, Lin Xinyan decided to sit with him for a bit longer before going to settle the bill.
“Shi Ji, the practice tasks need to be completed independently. Since you’re new, we’re partners in name, we won’t be working closely together. I can’t help you much with this. I can only tell you that these tasks are important, so you must take them seriously. We’ll part ways for now. If you encounter any urgent issues, don’t forget to call me using the wristband. I’ll come as soon as I can.”
Shi Ji nodded, “Got it.”
“Alright then, take care.”
“Okay.”
Shi Ji smiled as he responded to Lin Xinyan.
Lin Xinyan smiled back and turned to leave.
“Lin Xinyan!”
Suddenly, Shi Ji called out to her.
She turned around slowly, “Yes, Shi Ji?”
He grinned, “Thanks for the treat.”
Lin Xinyan’s smile widened, “You’re welcome.”
After Lin Xinyan left, Shi Ji sat for a bit longer. He was truly stuffed. Rubbing his protruding belly, he smiled contentedly.
Then, his eyes shifted to the busy employees in the shop. A thought crossed his mind, and he suddenly had an idea.
He quickly got up and, with a smile, approached a man who appeared to be the owner.

After leaving the bun shop, Lin Xinyan couldn’t help but look back a few times. Despite her confidence in Shi Ji’s abilities, leaving a new student to handle things on his own made her a bit uneasy. But recalling his incredible strength and his year of experience at the Star Hero Academy, she felt reassured that he should be fine.
With that worry set aside, Lin Xinyan finally walked away with peace of mind.
