Chapter 30: I’m Modest, I Won’t Say It

At first, Lin Xinyan thought that since Shi Ji hadn’t contacted her, his progress must have been going well. She assumed he had done something worthwhile, but to her surprise, he had been helping sell buns at a bun shop. This really left her speechless. Shi Ji’s way of thinking truly shattered her worldview.

Selling buns did qualify as helping out and met the academy’s requirements, but it seemed a bit too casual. Perhaps only someone like Shi Ji could come up with this. Given this, she now understood why he had been expelled from Star Hero Academy.

Lin Xinyan originally came here to have breakfast, but upon seeing Shi Ji, she lost her appetite. 

Watching Shi Ji’s cheerful demeanor, it was clear he had been having a great time these past two days.

Gazing at Shi Ji helplessly, Lin Xinyan said faintly, “Hey, what are you thinking? Are you satisfied with just selling buns?”

Instead of being worried, Shi Ji replied proudly, “No, no, we don’t just have buns. We also have steamed bread, various types of porridge, and free pickles. Want some?”

Lin Xinyan was momentarily stunned, her expression blank. Was Shi Ji being humorous or did he genuinely misunderstand her? 

“Hey, I’m seriously talking to you about important matters. Don’t joke around.”

Seeing that Shi Ji wasn’t concerned about his situation, Lin Xinyan started to worry. After all, she considered Shi Ji a friend and had promised Jing Xin to guide him. She couldn’t let Shi Ji just sell buns, complete one task, and barely pass the practical assignment.

Even after hearing Lin Xinyan’s concerns, Shi Ji was unbothered and leisurely picked up a char siu bun to eat.

“Don’t worry. I never planned to get a high score anyway. Otherwise, why would I stay here?”

Shi Ji’s main reason for saying this was due to his financial situation. Living outside was expensive, and so was food. Helping out at the bun shop provided food and shelter while also meeting the practical task requirements. It was a perfect solution.

Admiring Shi Ji’s optimistic attitude, Lin Xinyan couldn’t help but be impressed. Did all strong people have such a laid-back approach?

“I’ve explained the pros and cons to you. Consider it carefully.”

Since Shi Ji was so indifferent, there wasn’t much more she could say without seeming overbearing.

“Hey! Try today’s buns,” Shi Ji’s voice called out again.

Lin Xinyan pouted but finally gave up on the topic. She turned her attention to the char siu buns in front of her.

She had been to this shop many times and was familiar with their buns, but today’s looked different. Not that they were unappealing, but they had a more refined appearance.

“Is the shop introducing new products?” she asked curiously.

Shi Ji grinned widely, stood up, and proudly patted his chest. “It’s all thanks to this handsome guy here. I made these buns myself, including the filling. Try them.”

Lin Xinyan blinked in surprise, finding it hard to believe.

“Are you joking? You’ve only been here for two days, and you’ve already mastered it?”

Seeing her skepticism, Shi Ji didn’t seem anxious but rather showed a hint of pride.

“Haha! You can’t judge a book by its cover. My cooking skills have always been excellent, but I’m modest, so I don’t mention it. Just like my handsomeness. I’m modest, so I don’t mention it.”

Shi Ji’s words made Lin Xinyan laugh.

“Hehe… you’re really something else.”

She picked up a bun with her chopsticks, opened her mouth slightly, and took a small bite.

Shi Ji kept smiling, confident in his culinary skills.

“Mm! It’s delicious,” Lin Xinyan exclaimed.
