Chapter 50: Fans

Today, Shi Ji was still busy at the bun shop.

Thanks to the government’s efforts, the aftermath of the disaster was nearing its end. The residents whose homes were destroyed had been relocated to other places, where their living conditions were ensured, so the bun shop no longer needed to provide char siu buns and porridge.

As for the damaged areas, construction workers were actively repairing them. The large piles of rubble were being cleared away, and soon, new buildings would be planned and constructed.

No one had anticipated such a sudden disaster. Anomalies above the Nether level could cause significant damage to a city. This time, it was an anomaly nearing the Devil level. Despite the substantial damage, it was contained, preventing further escalation.

Regarding casualties, a few people were injured, and some died due to various accidents. Overall, the incident remained within a relatively acceptable range.

Business at the bun shop was still thriving, not significantly affected by the anomaly attack.

People should stay optimistic and look forward.

Shi Ji was busy delivering buns and clearing tables. His sharp eyes spotted a girl in a black and white dress, wearing a white trench coat over her silver hair, smiling as she walked towards the shop.

‘She really came,’ Shi Ji thought, feeling a bit helpless.

Most of the time, when girls say something, they mean it. Lin Xinyan was just like that.

She saw Shi Ji from afar and waved at him, quickening her pace.

It was almost nine o’clock now. Lin Xinyan was indeed punctual.

As she walked, many people around her focused on her. Now, her image was everywhere–on TV, in newspapers, and in magazines. Lin Xinyan had become a famous person.

“Hey, look! That’s the B-level hero, Lin Xinyan, from the news.”

“Oh my, she’s even prettier in person.”

“Hey, what are you doing? You haven’t paid yet!”

“Boss! I’m just going to get an autograph. I’ll be right back!”

As soon as someone mentioned an autograph, a swarm of people surrounded her. Lin Xinyan was stopped in her tracks, still about twenty steps away from the bun shop.

Seeing Lin Xinyan surrounded, Shi Ji rubbed his nose. With the crowd packed so tightly around her, it didn’t seem like she could get away anytime soon.

This situation was unexpected for Lin Xinyan. When she walked over, she noticed people looking at her, but no one mentioned autographs. Now that someone had asked for one, it was out of control with so many people. She felt exhausted.

From a distance, she saw Shi Ji. He showed no intention of helping her and turned back into the bun shop.

Lin Xinyan felt a bit annoyed. 

What kind of friend was he, not even helping her out? What should she do now?

Half an hour later, the crowd finally dispersed.

Feeling utterly drained, Lin Xinyan experienced a unique type of fatigue for the first time. She looked at the bun shop, now almost empty of customers. Shi Ji was sitting at the door, leisurely eating an apple with his legs crossed.

He looked her way, seeing that she had finally dealt with the crowd, and waved cheerfully at her.
