Chapter 542: I’ll Take You to Wang Yun!
by tinytreeThis left the program inspectors in front of her at a complete loss.
They had started following Ying Yuezi the moment she got out of the van. But as soon as it drove away and they made it to the alley entrance, they found her already waiting for them. She even crooked a finger at them, like calling over a dog, luring them down beneath the bridge before calmly delivering those lines.
Now the five program inspectors were frozen, walkie-talkies in hand, unsure what to do. They had already reported to Elder Zhao, but so far, there’d been no response.
He was probably busy.
“What are you all standing around for? Sit down and wait. I can’t leave yet anyway. Going back now would just make them suspicious. And besides, if you still can’t catch them after all this, you guys really are useless. I’ve done everything I could; this is as obvious as it gets.”
As she spoke, Ying Yuezi absentmindedly played with the ribbon on her wrist.
Recalling the events of that morning, she felt mentally exhausted.
After arriving at the Sero Market, she had deliberately let the ribbon on her hand show, occasionally flicking her hair, then exchanged glances with various stall owners, signaling them silently.
Anyone with half a brain would’ve realized something was up.
A woman this beautiful, selling seafood?
On top of that, the television had been filled with news about fugitives and bounty notices lately. So it wasn’t long before someone looked her over while discreetly making a phone call.
And yet somehow, they still managed to get away.
When Old Cai pulled up, even she was speechless.
His timing was almost too perfect. They had barely finished before they were in the car and gone.
If it hadn’t been for the drone team, they really might have gotten clean away.
“Let her go.”
Just as Ying Yuezi was lost in thought, a voice came through the inspector’s walkie-talkie. It was Elder Zhao.
“Yes, sir.”
After receiving the order, the program inspector looked over at Ying Yuezi.
“Wait, you can’t let me go just yet.” Ying Yuezi stood up, brushing the dirt off her clothes.
“Hmm?”
“You need to keep chasing me. I’ll run toward Wang Yun’s direction. Once I lead you to him, I trust you’ll know what to do,” she said quietly, head slightly bowed, eyes downcast.
But inside, she was conflicted—uneasy. Something told her they still wouldn’t be able to catch them this time.
If she led these people to Wang Yun and they failed to capture him, Wang Yun would definitely start to doubt her.
At that thought, Ying Yuezi slowly extended her arm.
“What do you mean?”
The program inspector hesitated, watching her gesture.
“Shoot me in the arm. Don’t hit anything vital. I’ll lead you to him. If we’re going to act, we have to commit to the full performance.”
After Ying Yuezi finished speaking, the inspector cooperated without hesitation and drew his gun.
He fired a single shot at her arm.
A red paint mark bloomed on Ying Yuezi’s upper arm. It was the standard indicator of being ‘hit.’
She cooperated fully, immediately placing her injured left arm behind her back. She could no longer use it.
“I’ll run ahead. Give me one minute, then follow.”
With that, Ying Yuezi turned and ran into the distance. Her running posture looked a bit awkward because of the injury to her arm, but it didn’t slow her down at all.
The livestream audience went wild.
At this point, the comment section was completely divided.
“This move from Ying Yuezi is reckless. Even if she’s injured, if she leads them straight to Big Brother, he’ll definitely know something’s up!”
“No, no, she’s hurt! Who would suspect someone injured? In times of danger, people instinctively run toward familiarity and safety!”
“Not necessarily. I still think Big Brother only let her join last time because he already suspected something was off!”
“This is just too blatant! How did she even make it to captain of the inspectors? I’m seriously disappointed in her!”
Everyone was voicing their own opinions.
Some thought she was completely exposing herself. Others believed this was the smartest move, one of the only ways to lead the inspectors to Wang Yun. Although the majority of the chat was criticizing Ying Yuezi, her popularity ranking had surged to second place just behind Wang Yun.
The place where Old Cai dropped her off was extremely far from Wang Yun’s hideout.
If she wanted to reach him on foot, it would take her several hours at least.
So as Ying Yuezi ran, she kept thinking about what other methods she could use.
In contrast, things were going far more smoothly for Old Hu.
Although there had been people tailing him the entire time, he had already shaken them off. And he had also ditched the drone overhead.
Now he was only 300 to 400 meters away from Wang Yun.
All he had to do was reach him quickly and alert the group so they could make a run for it.
Xiang Xiang hadn’t gone to help at Old Cai’s restaurant yet. Thirteen and Old Zhou were still asleep.
Big Mouth and Xiao Gao were also deep in dreamland.
Only Wang Yun had gotten up early. He’d pulled an all-nighter and finished crafting sixteen human-skin masks.
With those ready, Thirteen and Old Zhou could go out today without any risk.
