    Chapter Index

Wang Yun looked at Nicole’s vacant expression, his brows knitting tighter and tighter.

Hart, however, did not notice anything unusual. He simply believed Nicole was acting that way out of fear of Yura.

A faint but unsettling suspicion arose in Wang Yun’s mind. He began to suspect that Nicole had been hypnotized by Yura.

    Wang Yun turned to Hart.

“Hart, have you ever investigated Yura?”

Still immersed in self-reproach, Hart was startled by the sudden question. He quickly nodded.

“Of course. She’s currently a world-renowned expert in blood disorders.”

Hart was somewhat puzzled. He had already told the Wang brothers this before.

Wang Yun shook his head. “Besides hematology, is she skilled in any other fields?”

    Hart shook his head.

“I’m not sure. Wait a moment, I’ll have my assistant look into it.”

Hart took out his phone and dialed a number in front of Wang Yun.

In the office, Hugh felt a headache coming on when he saw his boss calling. He still had no leads on the bone marrow donor information Hart had asked him to investigate.

“Boss, I’m sorry. We still haven’t found any information about the donor.”

“I know. I’m not calling about the donor this time,” Hart said calmly.

Hugh let out a long breath. Fortunately, he was not being reprimanded for inefficiency.

“Find out for me if, aside from specializing in blood diseases, what other fields Yura is proficient in. Investigate as quickly as possible and report back to me.”

    “Yes, boss.”

Hugh thought to himself that Yura must have truly offended the boss this time. He then went to find his longtime partner so they could investigate together.

    Hart put down his phone.

Wang Yun stood beside him and had heard the entire conversation.

“Don’t worry too much about the bone marrow. Nicole’s condition has been fairly stable recently. If Yura is using that person as her leverage, she must have hidden the information very carefully.”

Hart nodded, but how could he not worry? He had only this one daughter. And she had been hurt like this right under his own watch.

The two continued watching the surveillance feed.

In the room, Yura looked at Nicole with satisfaction.

“Now then, good girl, roll up your sleeve. It’s time to draw blood.”

Nicole obediently pushed up her sleeve. Her arm was covered in bluish-purple bruises. Numerous tiny needle marks covered her skin.

Yura frowned as she looked at Nicole’s arm.

“Alright, we won’t draw blood from your arm today. Remember, you mustn’t let your father see it.”

    Nicole nodded obediently.

Only then did Yura seem satisfied.

“Come on. Sit on the bed and take off your socks. We’ll have to draw from your ankle today.”

Nicole did as she was told.

She sat on the bed, removed her socks, and placed them neatly to the side.

Yura opened her medical kit and took out a blood collection tube she had prepared in advance. She walked to the bedside, disinfected Nicole’s ankle with an alcohol swab, and glanced at the faint needle marks already there.

“Good girl. Even at home, remember to wear socks.”

    Nicole nodded mechanically.

Yura added hypocritically, “Girls mustn’t catch a chill. You should dress warmly.”

Seemingly satisfied with herself, she picked up the needle and inserted it into Nicole’s skin. Bright red blood slowly flowed into the test tube in Yura’s hand.

As she watched the needle sink into Nicole’s flesh, a strange smile appeared on her face.

Wang Yun, who had been observing her closely, immediately said, “Yura’s made her move.”

Hart and Big Mouth were staring at the monitor as well, but neither had noticed when Yura acted.

Two tear tracks still marked Hart’s face.

Seeing Nicole’s bruised arms and ankles, he could no longer hold back his tears. If he had not been gripping the cup in his hand so tightly, he would have already rushed upstairs.

But now was not the time. He had to find the person whose bone marrow matched Nicole’s and who was willing to donate.

Focused entirely on Nicole, he had not detected anything unusual in Yura’s movements.

Wang Yun reminded them, “Her smile changed just now while she was drawing blood. If I’m not mistaken, the problem lies with that needle.”

He went straight to the heart of the matter.

    Hart immediately grew tense.

“What do we do now? Do we go in?”

Wang Yun lowered his head in thought for a moment. Then he looked up at Hart and shook his head.

“Trust me. She won’t do anything else to Nicole. That needle likely contains something that will trigger her condition. That way, she can use the surgery to threaten you. This is probably the countermeasure she came up with after realizing the listening device had been destroyed last night.”

Hart looked at Wang Yun in pain.

“Then what should I do? Hugh still hasn’t found anything. Should I agree to her?”

Wang Yun thought for a moment and shook his head again.

“She won’t believe a verbal promise. She’ll make you do something—something extremely difficult. For example, she might demand that you bring her divorce papers.”

At this moment, Hart had completely lost the calm composure of a business magnate. His face was filled with worry for Nicole.

    Just then, Hart’s phone rang.
