Chapter 837: General Anesthesia Administered
by tinytreeAfter saying that, Wang Yun signaled to Hart that preparations for the surgery could begin. He asked Hart to take Nicole to change into surgical clothing and wait in the operating room.
As for himself, he brought Betzi to another operating room.
Wang Yun first went to the changing room, where he changed into surgical scrubs, then put on a cap and mask before coming out.
He gestured for Betzi to lie down on the operating table.
Betzi looked at him nervously, hoping for some reassurance.
Seeing how frightened she was, Wang Yun spoke to comfort her.
“Miss Betzi, there’s no need to be afraid. I’ll administer anesthesia first. You won’t feel anything during the bone marrow extraction.”
This was also only possible because Hart had both money and influence—otherwise, even obtaining anesthetic drugs would have been difficult.
Even after hearing that, Betzi didn’t feel much reassured. She was still very tense. As she lay curled up on the wide operating table, she appeared especially small and fragile.
Wang Yun did not delay any longer. Taking the prepared anesthetic, he inserted the needle into a vein on the back of Betzi’s hand.
As the medication slowly flowed into her bloodstream, Betzi felt her eyelids growing heavier and heavier.
Before long, she completely lost consciousness.
Wang Yun then picked up a specially prepared syringe from the side.
He moved to Betzi’s right side. The site he had chosen for the bone marrow extraction was the right side of her pelvic bone.
Wang Yun exposed a small section of her waist and, using the anterior superior iliac spine as the landmark, performed a bone puncture. He quickly extracted the necessary amount of marrow-rich blood.
Afterward, he treated the puncture site to stop the bleeding.
Once everything was done, Wang Yun covered Betzi with a small blanket so she could rest there.
A healthy adult body contains roughly 3000 grams of bone marrow tissue, with about 0.2 grams participating in metabolism each day.
Because of this, donating around 10 grams of marrow does not weaken the donor’s immune system. The donated amount will naturally regenerate within one to two weeks.
There would be no obvious wound after the donation, nor was suturing required.
At most, the donor might feel some soreness in the lower back. Betzi simply needed proper rest and adequate nutrition—especially iron.
That part would be left to Big Mouth.
Wang Yun took the collected sample and brought it to the blood cell separator.
There, he began isolating the highly active hematopoietic stem cells from the blood.
This process would take about one to two hours.
During that time, Wang Yun went to check on Nicole.
Nicole had already changed into sterile surgical clothing. Hart had also put on sterile attire and was standing beside the bed, speaking softly with her.
The moment Nicole saw Wang Yun arrive, her eyes immediately lit up.
“Big Brother Wang Yun… I’m scared.”
After saying that, she blinked her big innocent eyes and looked at him expectantly. There wasn’t the slightest trace of real fear left on her face.
Wang Yun walked over and lightly tapped her forehead with a smile.
“You little rascal. If anything feels uncomfortable, you have to tell me in advance.”
Nicole shook her head vigorously.
“Nope. As soon as I see Big Brother Wang Yun, nothing hurts anymore.”
Wang Yun helplessly patted the little girl’s head.
“Little girl, later I’ll have Brother Big Mouth cook you lots of delicious food.”
Her eyes immediately sparkled.
“That’s great! Brother Big Mouth’s cooking is the best. It’s the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten.”
Standing nearby, Hart asked a little sourly, “Then is my cooking not good?”
No matter how busy he was, whenever Hart visited Nicole, he often cooked some of her favorite dishes himself just to make her happy. Now, seeing that the little girl seemed to have completely forgotten about his cooking and was thinking only about Big Mouth’s food made him feel a bit jealous.
Nicole quickly grabbed her father’s hand and pressed it against her cheek, rubbing against it like a kitten.
“Daddy’s cooking is delicious too.”
Hart’s mood immediately brightened—until the little girl added the second half of her sentence.
“But compared to Brother Big Mouth’s, it’s still just a tiny bit worse.”
Nicole mischievously held up her thumb and index finger close together to show that the difference was really only a tiny bit.
Hart flicked her forehead lightly in mock annoyance.
“That’s what you get for not taking your father’s side.”
But the little girl simply stuck out her tongue without caring.
“I’m a good girl. Of course I have to tell the truth.”
Seeing that Nicole was genuinely in good spirits, Wang Yun stood up and returned to the blood separator. The process was almost complete.
He then took the anesthetic and walked back to the bedside.
“Little Nicole, I’m is going to give you the anesthesia now. Just be a good girl and sleep for a while. When you wake up, everything will be finished.”
The little girl was clearly still a bit scared. The relaxed mood from earlier disappeared instantly.
“Big Brother Wang Yun… can you hug me?”
She hoped the big brother she admired most could give her some courage.
Wang Yun placed the anesthetic on the nearby cart and reached out, giving the little girl a firm hug through the protective gown, hoping to pass some strength to her.
Nicole hugged him back, then buried her face in her father’s arms and stretched out one arm.
“Big Brother Wang Yun, go ahead and do it. I won’t look.”
She wore the expression of someone bravely marching to her fate, hiding her head like an ostrich.
Wang Yun and Hart exchanged an amused glance.
Nicole’s behavior was exactly like an ostrich.
‘If I can’t see it, it won’t hurt.’
In reality, there was only a brief sting when the needle pierced the skin on the back of her hand.
As the anesthetic slowly entered her bloodstream, Nicole’s eyelids grew heavier and heavier.
Finally, she drifted into a deep sleep.
At that moment, the blood separator also sounded its completion alarm.
