    Chapter Index

Even after getting drunk, Baren still remembered everything. As the owner of a bar, that was a basic requirement.

“Morning, brother. I still don’t know your name. Have you had breakfast yet?” he greeted Colin with a smile.

“Boss Baren, just call me Colin.” Colin nodded.

Baren walked over, took the coffee the housekeeper handed him, and drank a sip.

“Brother Colin, no need to be so formal. I told you last night—if you follow me, I definitely won’t treat you badly. You may not have understood what I meant. I’m treating you like a brother, not as some employee I’m paying to work for me.”

    “Do you understand?”

Colin did not feel that anything was wrong. On the contrary, he thought Baren seemed like a genuinely good boss.

They had only just met, and Baren was already calling him brother.

    So Colin nodded.

    “Alright, big brother.”

Only then did Baren smile and pull out a thick stack of cash from his bag.

“Since we’re brothers now, don’t refuse it. Take this first and buy yourself some clothes.”

Colin looked at the money being handed to him. After hesitating for a moment, he accepted it.

Then Baren took him back to the bar.

At the entrance, he gave an order to the security guard.

“Tell your captain to come to my office in a bit.”

The guard nodded and did not dare look too closely at the man beside Baren.

The two of them went straight upstairs. Baren pointed to the room next to his own office.

“Brother Colin, this will be your office from now on. If you need anything, just say so.”

Colin smiled and nodded. “Got it, big brother.”

Baren then took him into his own office. He sat down in his boss’s chair and had Colin sit on the sofa. The two chatted casually while waiting for the head of security.

Before long, there was a knock at the door.

    “Come in,” Baren called out.

A sturdily built young man stepped inside. He was a full one meter ninety tall and weighed around two hundred 40 pounds. His features were firm and resolute.

“Boss, you wanted to see me?” he asked in some confusion, looking at his boss.

Baren nodded and introduced him while looking at Colin.

“This is Brook, the head of security here. From now on, he’ll be following your orders.”

Then Baren turned to the bewildered Brook.

“This is my brother, Colin. From now on, I’m putting him in charge of security here. You’re to cooperate with his work.”

Although Brook was not pleased, he was only an employee. It was not his place to object.

“Brook, make this clear to everyone. From now on, everyone follows Colin’s orders, especially when that group of punks shows up,” Baren said.

The moment Brook heard his boss mention those punks, he gritted his teeth in anger.

The fact that those bastards had become so brazen was proof that he had failed in his job. He had no grounds to argue.

    Gritting his teeth, he nodded.

As soon as he did, Baren dismissed him.

Once Brook had left, Baren put on a troubled expression again.

“Brother Colin, I’m counting on you to deal with that gang of thugs. Come on, I’ll show you around our bar.”

Colin nodded and said seriously, “Alright. Don’t worry. If they dare come again, I’ll beat every last one of them flat and throw them out.”

Baren personally took Colin on a tour of the entire bar.

In the end, the two of them arrived at Colin’s office. Inside was a massive screen displaying the bar’s surveillance footage. The only blind spot in the whole bar was the restroom.

Looking at the bar gradually filling up on the monitors, Colin felt a little pleased.

Had he really stumbled into a stroke of incredible luck?

He was on the show now, and as long as he was not caught, he could earn a huge amount of money.

A bar was the perfect kind of place for someone like him to hide—crowded, chaotic, and difficult to search thoroughly.

He glanced at the money Baren had given him. And on top of that, the boss was offering quite a generous treatment.

While Colin was lost in thought, a knock at the door suddenly pulled him back.

He was puzzled. He had only just arrived, so who would be coming to see him?

He raised his voice and called out, “Come in.”

The one who entered was Baren.

He looked at Colin with a smile and had a folder in his hand.

“Brother Colin, take a look at this contract.” Baren handed the folder to him. “I told you I wouldn’t treat you badly, but it’s better to put everything in writing. That way, you can feel more at ease, right? I’ve written all the conditions and benefits in there. Take a look. If there’s no problem, just sign your name at the bottom. There are two copies of the contract. I’ve already signed my name.”

Colin opened the folder and looked over the contract in his hands.

The section outlining his obligations contained only one simple sentence: Ensure the normal operation of the bar and cooperate with Baren in participating in certain activities.

When Colin read that part, he assumed it meant maintaining order in the bar on a daily basis and dealing with troublesome customers who had too much to drink.

As for the “activities,” he took it to mean accompanying Baren to certain banquets or business negotiations to ensure his safety.

He had worked as a security guard, bodyguard, and hired muscle before.

To him, this all sounded like the sort of work he usually did.

Below that came the part he was most interested in—the benefits.

Baren will provide Colin with free room and board. All food, clothing, housing, and transportation expenses will be covered by Baren. In addition, Baren will pay Colin a monthly salary of 200,000.
