Chapter 858: What Gives You the Right?

Looking at Baren’s smile, Colin suddenly had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, Baren looked at Colin and said with a warm smile, “Brother Colin, your skills really are impressive. A lot of people want to test themselves against you.”

At first, Colin thought he was simply praising him. 

Feeling a little pleased with himself, he replied modestly, “Not really. I’m just a little better than the average person.”

“Brother Colin, you’re too modest. The night after tomorrow, there’s a match. The other side specifically named you and said they wanted you in it.”

Then Baren looked at Colin with a face full of shared indignation.

“They said some really nasty things. They called you overrated and said all kinds of ugly things. I got angry and agreed on your behalf. You won’t blame me, will you?”

Only then, looking at the fury written all over the man’s face, did Colin realize he had been tricked.

Baren had never recruited him to deal with those thugs. Nor had he been looking for a bodyguard at all. What he had really needed was an enforcer. An enforcer who could make money for him.

At this point, Colin paused.

It was all because he had been greedy for a little advantage. Otherwise, he would never have fallen into someone else’s trap.

Big Mouth glared at Colin angrily.

“How could you be so stupid? If he told you to fight, you just went and risked your life? Couldn’t you have just thrown the match on purpose?”

Wang Yun, however, seemed deep in thought. He had remembered the contract Colin had signed.

That was probably his “slave contract.”

Colin let out a bitter smile.

“Do you still remember the contract I signed? It said that I had to obey and cooperate with any event-related assignments proposed by Baren first. He played a word game with me.”

Bang—

Colin angrily slammed the water glass in his hand down beside him.

Big Mouth stared with his mouth wide open, disbelief written all over his face.

“That guy is way too sinister! He’d been plotting against you from the very beginning.”

Wang Yun only gave a slight nod. He was still thinking.

Then Colin looked at Wang Yun with complete sincerity and cautiously continued with his request.

“I’ve already fought a lot of matches for him. Before this, my opponents were all just ordinary people,” Colin said, and gave a bitter smile. “I got hurt many times too, but somehow I survived. Luckily, there was Doctor Lyle. That’s the only reason you’re seeing me now. Otherwise, I’d have gone to meet Jesus a long time ago.”

Big Mouth nodded along.

“That Doctor Lyle sounds like a good man.”

Colin nodded.

“He’s saved me many times. This time, the reason Baren brought me here so far in advance was because there’s a match in a few days. My opponent is the previous champion!”

As he said that, Colin cautiously glanced at Wang Yun again.

Wang Yun seemed to understand what he was getting at, and a half-smiling expression appeared on his face.

Seeing the two of them looking at each other without saying anything, Big Mouth was almost driven crazy.

“What kind of riddle are you two talking in? If you can’t beat him, then don’t fight!”

Colin shook his head.

“To keep me from deliberately throwing the match, Baren told me that if I helped him win five fights, he would give me my freedom. And this one… is the fifth.”

A puzzled look appeared on Big Mouth’s face.

“If you already know for sure you can’t beat him, then go talk to Baren. What’s the point of coming to us?”

Colin let out another bitter laugh.

“You think I didn’t go to him? But that man is no human being at all. He just smiled at me and told me he believed I could beat him. He even told me to work hard. He put money on me to win. Right now, I think the odds are eight to one point five.”

Big Mouth’s mouth fell open in shock.

“Holy crap. No wonder he insists on making you fight. If you actually win… I can’t even imagine how much money he’d make!”

“Exactly. He insists that I have to take part, and I know I can’t beat the other guy. On a fighting stage, losing your life is nothing unusual, so…”

At that point, Colin stopped. He looked at Wang Yun, and the meaning in his eyes was obvious.

Only Big Mouth still looked completely lost.

“So what? Why’d you stop?”

Before Colin could go on, Wang Yun answered in his place.

A mocking smile appeared on his face.

“So you agreed. You knew I made it all the way to the end in the last season of the show. You knew I was good in a fight, so you started looking for me. Then you secretly followed the program inspectors too. You followed us, which is why you showed up at exactly the right moment. You did all of this because you wanted me to fight this match for you. Am I right?”

Colin looked at Wang Yun in utter shock.

He had not even said it outright, yet this man had already seen through all of his thoughts!

How high did his IQ have to be for that?

Big Mouth also looked completely stunned. Then he turned to Colin, his face full of anger.

“You know you can’t beat him. You know that if you lose, you might die! So what gives you the right to ask my boss to fight in your place?!”
