Chapter 868: Trying to Cover It Up Only Makes It More Obvious
by tinytreeBefore Wang Yun could even respond, Baren hurried to reassure them.
“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure he’s sent back later, safe and sound.”
Only then did Big Mouth nod. He said nothing more, turned around, and went back into the room.
Wang Yun glanced down at his pajamas, then looked up at the neatly dressed Baren.
Baren seemed to remember something. He picked up a bag beside him and handed it to Wang Yun.
“Look at my brain. I had someone prepare an outfit for you. See if it fits.”
Wang Yun took the bag and looked inside. It was an expensive suit. Wang Yun shook his head at Baren’s enthusiasm.
“Sorry, Mr. Baren. I’m not used to wearing this.”
He moved to hand the bag back, but Baren didn’t take it.
“It’s fine. It was prepared for you anyway. If you’re not used to it right now, that’s okay. Keep it—if you ever have an occasion that calls for it, you can wear it then.”
Seeing how insistent Baren was, Wang Yun stopped refusing.
“Then thank you for the suit, Mr. Baren.”
Baren smiled and nodded.
So Wang Yun carried the clothes back into the room. He had already asked the guards at the door to buy him a simple set of clothes the night before. A fifty-nine-yuan white T-shirt and a ninety-nine-yuan pair of gray casual pants.
On him, the whole look came off both handsome and bright.
After changing, Wang Yun walked back out.
When Baren saw him dressed like that, he suddenly remembered this was just a young man in his early twenties.
The confidence he’d been brimming with about the match wavered slightly.
The person in front of him was simply too young. It made him unable to help doubting Wang Yun’s strength.
Wang Yun naturally caught the hesitation in Baren’s eyes. He smiled as he looked at Baren’s uncertainty.
“Mr. Baren, don’t worry. I said I’d win the championship, and I will. You don’t need to worry. And even if I lose and you lose this time, you’ll still end up with two enforcers. In the long run, you’re still making a profit, aren’t you?”
Baren thought it over for a moment, and only then did his smile return.
“You’re joking, Brother Wang Yun. How could I not believe you?”
Wang Yun simply smiled as well and did not expose the earlier awkwardness.
Baren led Wang Yun to Colin’s door.
Wang Yun had only knocked twice when the door opened.
Colin had clearly been prepared. He was already dressed and ready to go.
The three of them headed to the hotel’s back entrance. A black luxury van was already waiting outside.
“Brother Wang Yun, Brother Colin, hop in.” Baren gestured for them to get in.
The two of them nodded at the same time.
Colin walked straight toward the front passenger seat.
Baren and Wang Yun got into the back.
From the outside, the van looked ordinary enough. But inside, it was extravagantly luxurious. White leather seats throughout. Between the two rear seats was a small solid-wood tea table. On the table sat a fruit platter and a full tea set.
Judging from the setup, this was clearly Baren’s dedicated vehicle for hosting important guests.
“Brother Wang Yun, have some fruit first. It’ll take a bit of time to get to the venue,” Baren said with a smile.
Wang Yun nodded.
“Then I’ll take a quick nap. Just wake me when we get there.”
“Of course. Rest for a while, Brother Wang Yun.”
After all the running and escaping these days, Wang Yun truly was exhausted.
From performing surgery on Nicole up until now, he’d barely had a moment of downtime.
The ride was extremely smooth, with only the slightest sway. The cabin was quiet. Baren brewed tea in silence.
In that calm atmosphere, Wang Yun drifted off without even realizing it.
The moment the car stopped, Wang Yun opened his eyes instantly.
They were clear and sharp, as if he hadn’t slept at all.
Baren was just about to shake him awake when his hand froze in midair. Then he reacted and hurriedly laughed to cover the awkwardness.
“Brother Wang Yun, your alertness really is high. I was just about to wake you.”
Wang Yun nodded without much expression.
“I’m always like this. I’m used to it. Sorry if I startled you.”
Baren hurriedly waved his hands.
“Then let’s get out. I’ve already had someone arrange the tour.”
Wang Yun nodded and followed Baren out of the car.
Colin had already gotten out first and was waiting for them.
Two other people were standing beside Colin as well—probably the ones Baren had arranged in advance. They were greeting each other, looking like people who already knew one another.
Colin was just about to introduce Wang Yun to them.
But Baren waved his hand, signaling that it wasn’t time yet.
Only then did Colin remember that Wang Yun was their trump card. They had to be careful and not expose him too early.
The two men walked up and stopped in front of Baren.
“Boss, it’s all been arranged with the people here.”
Baren nodded and motioned to Wang Yun.
“Brother Wang Yun, let’s go.”
Wang Yun nodded.
He stared blankly at the massive structure in front of them.
From the outside, it looked like a huge half-built building that had been abandoned mid-construction.
A true unfinished ruin.
‘Could there be something hidden inside?’ Wang Yun couldn’t help thinking.
The group of five walked straight toward the center of the unfinished building.
