Chapter 878: Could You Let Him Give Me the Takeout First?
by tinytreeIgnoring the young server’s stunned expression, the manager left behind a single sentence before turning and walking away.
“Don’t ask what you shouldn’t ask. Don’t concern yourself with what you shouldn’t concern yourself with. Just do your own job well.”
He knew the manager was warning him.
After that, he no longer dared let his mind wander and went back to his work in earnest.
Meanwhile, Rodney had already hidden the signal transmitter inside a fresh-keeping bag, then tucked it into the filling of a burger.
Carrying the tampered family bucket, he hurried to the hotel where Wang Yun and the others were staying.
The moment he arrived, he was stopped by the security guard at the entrance.
Rodney pretended to anxiously check his watch and tried to ingratiate himself with the guard.
“Big brother, you know how hard it is for a little guy like me to deliver takeout. If I go over time, they dock my pay. Please cut me some slack and let me in.”
The guard shook his head awkwardly.
“Little brother, don’t make this hard for me. It’s not that I want to trouble you. We have rules. Without the guest notifying us in advance, we can’t just let delivery people or couriers walk in.”
Now Rodney was genuinely anxious. He didn’t know Wang Yun’s phone number.
“Big brother, I was in such a rush that I left my phone back at the shop. I’m just here to deliver one order. Please let me in. I’m begging you, just make an exception this once.”
Seeing how pitiful he looked, the guard couldn’t bear it and could only sigh.
“Then tell me the room number. I’ll call the front desk and help you confirm it.”
Rodney looked deeply grateful and quickly gave Wang Yun’s room number.
“The guest’s name is Wang Yun. He’s in 1601.”
The moment he heard that room number, the guard was startled again. Everyone in the hotel knew that the sixteenth floor had only two suites, and they were rented out year-round. In the past few days, quite a few people had apparently moved in there.
All of them looked like the kind no one wanted to mess with.
The guard immediately regretted agreeing so casually.
The sixteenth floor was forbidden ground; no one wanted to go near.
But seeing the sincere look in the young deliveryman’s eyes, he felt too embarrassed to take his words back.
So he steeled himself and walked over to the front desk.
“There’s a delivery guy outside who says a guest on the sixteenth floor ordered food. He says he forgot his phone when he rushed out. Please help confirm it.”
The receptionist glared at him and asked in disbelief, “What floor did you say?”
The guard repeated helplessly, “You heard me right. The sixteenth floor.”
The receptionist’s face darkened at once.
“I’m not making that call. If you want to call, you do it. Did you forget about that server who got curious about the sixteenth floor and then disappeared?”
The mention of the missing server made the guard shudder too. But he was still a loyal sort. Thinking of the poor delivery boy’s pitiful expression, he decided to grit his teeth and help him this once.
If this guard ever found out that the “pitiful little delivery boy” he kept talking about was actually a police officer, who knew what he would think?
The guard clenched his jaw, grabbed the phone in front of the receptionist, tapped a few buttons, and dialed the number directly.
The receptionist beside him muttered under her breath, “This man has to be crazy. Completely crazy.”
Beep—
Beep—
Each tone felt like it was knocking directly against the guard’s heart. He could practically hear his own heartbeat pounding in his ears.
After two soft rings, a pleasant male voice came through the phone, asking politely,
“Hello, who is this?”
The guard was surprised by how polite the man on the other end sounded. He had assumed the caller would immediately yell at him for making a harassing phone call.
Instead, he got a courteous question, and for a moment, he didn’t quite know how to respond.
“Hello? Is someone there?”
Only when the man’s slightly puzzled voice came again did the guard snap back to himself.
“Ah, sir, sorry to disturb you. There’s a Kendeji delivery worker here in the lobby. He says you ordered a family bucket, but he forgot to bring his phone. I’m just calling to confirm whether we should let him in.”
The one answering the phone was Wang Yun, who had been waiting for quite a while.
He had even started wondering whether Samson was so unreliable that maybe he shouldn’t work with him at all.
It had taken this long, and the transmitter still hadn’t arrived.
So that was why—he’d forgotten his phone?
Just how careless was this guy supposed to be?
Wang Yun suddenly felt a bit sorry for Samson.
“That’s right. I ordered it. Let him bring it straight up,” he explained.
Only then did the guard finally let out the breath he had been holding.
“Whew… that’s good. Then I’ll let him come right up.”
Wang Yun replied with a simple, “Alright.”
Then he hung up.
After getting the guest’s approval, the guard looked at the delivery worker at the entrance and kindly gave him a warning.
“Little brother, hurry and take it up. Remember—not too much looking around, not too much talking. Deliver it and leave as fast as you can.”
Rodney quickly bent at the waist in gratitude.
“Thank you, big brother. I’ll head up now.”
With that, he carried the family bucket toward the elevator. But the moment he stepped out of the elevator, he ran into two bodyguards.
Rodney lowered his head, frowning slightly.
Security this tight?
Just who exactly was this man?
The two bodyguards were just about to come over and inspect him when a familiar voice suddenly came from behind them—the distinguished guest from earlier.
“Um, sorry. That takeout is mine. I’m starving. Could you let him hand me the food first?”
The two bodyguards turned at the sound of the voice.
There stood Wang Yun by the doorway, pointing toward the delivery worker.
