Chapter 887: Truly Worthy of the Name “Blood Banquet”!
by tinytreeWang Yun and the others stood at the entrance to Blood Banquet, staring at those two bloody words. Every one of them felt a varying degree of discomfort.
Wang Yun looked at the name, and even though this was already the second time he had seen it, it still made his heart tighten.
Just the name alone carried an overwhelming stench of blood.
‘This place absolutely could not be allowed to continue existing,’ he thought to himself in silence.
As before, two attendants stood at the entrance checking the guests’ invitations.
The three of them walked straight up to the door. Seeing them approach, the attendants bowed politely.
“Good evening, gentlemen. May we please see your invitation?”
Baren nodded, took the invitation from the pocket of his suit, and handed it to the attendant.
Wang Yun glanced around. He could see a few men and women in formal wear. Each of them was exquisitely dressed, elegant and polished, adorned with expensive jewelry.
Since Wang Yun had come to take part in the fight, he had not changed into the costly suit Baren had prepared for him.
The attendants at the door showed no disdain, no trace of contempt or impatience.
Wang Yun gave a slight nod.
The owner of this place was definitely no ordinary person. Even a mere attendant had been trained to such impeccable standards.
Just then, a few guests who had not yet gone into their private rooms noticed the newcomers at the door and turned to look.
Baren and Colin were both dressed in formal wear.
Only Wang Yun was still in a simple set of casual clothes.
The moment those people saw how Wang Yun was dressed, they understood at once that this had to be one of the fighters, brought in for them to watch and bet on.
Immediately, several of them cast him scornful looks and began whispering among themselves.
Baren and Colin both grew angry at the sight.
“Tch. A bunch of snobs who judge by appearances,” Colin cursed under his breath.
The voice was low, but the attendant at the entrance still heard it.
The same attendant who had just taken their invitation looked Wang Yun over and immediately understood where the problem lay.
Then, turning to Wang Yun, he made a polite suggestion.
“Sir, would you like to change into something else? We’ve prepared a number of designer formal outfits here as well.”
The attendant meant well. He simply wanted to help Wang Yun out of an awkward situation.
Since Blood Banquet hosted lavish events, they had naturally considered the possibility of guests accidentally staining their clothes, so they had prepared both men’s and women’s formalwear in advance.
At that moment, the attendant looked at Wang Yun’s casual outfit and thought, so this was where it would come in handy.
Fortunately, this gentleman had a well-proportioned build. He should be able to wear any of the outfits they had prepared.
He assumed Wang Yun simply could not afford formalwear and had therefore come dressed like this. He thought he might help this gentleman, who looked very capable, save face. Then later, once the banquet began, he could even place a bet on this gentleman himself.
But he never expected the gentleman to refuse.
Wang Yun simply smiled and shook his head.
“I appreciate the kindness, but I’ll be going on stage to fight in a bit, so I won’t need the clothes. They’d just get in the way.”
Hearing that, the attendant did not press the matter.
“Very well, sir.”
He did feel a little regretful.
If this gentleman put on the outfit he had in mind, he would definitely look striking. Perhaps some female guest might even take a liking to him, and then he would no longer have to risk his life fighting in the ring.
But still, he was only a lowly attendant. What their supervisor drilled into them most was this: mind your own duties, and stay out of everything else.
The attendant’s regretful expression amused Wang Yun. He knew being an attendant in a place like this couldn’t be easy.
So after a moment’s thought, he let the smile fade from his face and said seriously to the attendant,
“If you’re allowed to place bets later, you should bet on me to win. And once you’re done with your work, leave as soon as you can.”
The attendant didn’t understand the second sentence. But he understood the first one perfectly.
Bet on this gentleman?
Was he confident he could beat Achir?
What kind of joke was that?
The odds had already reached an outrageous one to ten.
If this gentleman actually pulled off an upset and won, how many people would lose everything?
The attendant hardly dared think any further.
He looked suspiciously at the handsome Eastern face before him, unable for a moment to decide whether to believe him. He lowered his head in thought, then looked up, just about to ask Wang Yun why he was so confident he could beat Achir.
But the man was already gone.
Wang Yun had already led Baren and Colin inside.
The three of them headed toward the demon statue.
It stood on the right side of the hall. The banquet had not officially begun yet, so there were not many guests gathered there for the moment.
The hall was brilliantly lit. Along the wall to the right were sculptures of bats and horned demons.
The three of them went over to where the food was laid out, planning to eat something first.
The food on the table was all styled in exceptionally creative ways.
In front of Wang Yun sat a dessert shaped like an eyeball, served on a dark red plate.
Beside it was a heart with blood dripping from it.
Most of the designs centered around facial features and internal organs.
Miniature arms. Tiny hands and feet.
There was even a sinner nailed to a cross.
The drinks were mainly red wine, and even the soft drinks were all blood-red in color. If not for the little placards beneath each item listing the flavor, everyone would have thought it was real blood.
Truly worthy of the name Blood Banquet.
