Chapter 894: Your Winning Streak Ends Here.
by tinytreeRobin laughed as well. Mimicking Wang Yun, he lifted the receipt in his hand with a small flourish.
“And don’t forget mine. You’d better win it back for me too.”
The two men looked at each other and smiled.
Then Wang Yun turned and headed back toward the preparation room he had come from.
Just then, the host onstage began shouting with renewed excitement.
“Ladies and gentlemen, betting has officially entered its final countdown. Only five minutes left! If you haven’t placed your bets yet, now’s the time!”
A little later, the host checked the time displayed on the large screen behind him.
“Time’s up! Betting is now closed! And now, we come to the most tense and thrilling part of the evening—the main event!”
Some of Achir’s fans immediately followed the host’s rhythm, shouting their idol’s name at the top of their lungs.
“Now, let’s welcome our two fighters to the stage!”
As soon as the words fell, Wang Yun and Achir emerged from opposite sides of the ring, walking slowly onto the stage.
One to the left, one to the right, they came to a stop beside the host.
Microphone in hand, the host turned first to Achir with a broad smile.
“Mr. Achir, as the current six-time consecutive champion, what do you think of your opponent this time?”
Achir’s fans in the audience instantly broke into jeering laughter. But Achir raised a hand and stopped them. Then he leaned toward the microphone and looked up at the assembled patrons with complete seriousness.
“Brother Wang Yun is very capable.”
Those words did not make the crowd recognize Wang Yun’s strength. If anything, most of them only thought Achir seemed honest and decent, even putting in a good word for his opponent.
The host continued.
“Then Achir, are you confident about breaking your own record and becoming the unprecedented seven-time champion?”
Achir smiled. He looked first at the fans cheering him on, then toward the private rooms where the wealthy patrons were seated, and said with utter certainty,
“I will be the seven-time champion.”
The moment he finished, thunderous applause broke out.
Then the host turned to Wang Yun, his tone edged with mockery.
“Wang Yun, are you confident about this match?”
Even the polite form of address had disappeared. That alone said enough about the host’s character.
In truth, he had deliberately questioned Achir first and Wang Yun second. It was one of those petty tricks, meant to undermine Wang Yun before the fight even began. But Wang Yun’s confidence came from his own strength.
Faced with the crowd’s ridicule and the host’s needling, he only smiled faintly and said in a low voice,
“Once you run into me, your winning streak stops.”
The moment the words landed, the expressions on the faces of the two men beside him froze. Even the professional host had no idea how to follow that.
As for Achir, even the smile he had been wearing could no longer stay in place. He lowered his head, his expression darkening.
“Fine. In that case, don’t blame me later for showing no mercy,” Achir muttered that to himself.
By then, Achir’s fans had exploded.
“Achir, crush him!”
“Achir, knock that arrogant bastard’s teeth out!”
“Achir, teach this cocky fool a lesson!”
“Achir, go! Achir is the best!”
Hearing the cries from below, Achir’s expression eased somewhat.
At the side, the host hastily wrapped up his introduction and had the two men prepare to begin.
By now, the referee was already in place.
The host stepped down from the ring.
Robin quietly asked the assistant standing beside him, “Who hired that host?”
The assistant looked toward the host and admitted he did not know.
Robin glanced at him.
“I don’t want to see her here again.”
The assistant understood immediately.
“Yes, boss.”
With that, he turned and left.
Robin, meanwhile, watched the two men in the ring with growing interest. One was tall and massively built. Against him, the other looked lean, almost slight.
No wonder the odds had climbed to such a ridiculous level.
Standing here and looking at them like this, who would believe that the slimmer man had openly declared he would take the championship?
Robin watched in silence.
Baren and Colin, meanwhile, were beginning to lose their composure.
Baren remembered the wager he had made with Walter. Colin remembered the contract that bound him. And yet, looking at the two fighters onstage—at the sheer gap in size between them—even the two of them could not help beginning to doubt their own judgment.
Could Wang Yun really beat Achir?
With such a severe disadvantage in sheer physicality, how was Wang Yun supposed to use speed and agility to bring down a giant like that?
Outside, the police officers lying in wait nearby were equally tense.
All of them were just waiting for Wang Yun’s signal.
The two fighters had already begun putting on their protective gear.
Wang Yun rubbed the ring on his finger, then slipped it off and tucked it into his pocket for the moment.
There was no way to wear a ring with boxing gloves on.
He calmly and methodically put on his gear.
Across from him, Achir had finally wiped away the false smile from his face. A bloodthirsty light flickered in his eyes as he slowly ran his tongue across his lips.
Then he began putting on his own gear, one piece at a time.
At the side, the referee saw that both men were ready. He walked over and took his place between them.
