Chapter 901: What Does It Matter Whether I Called the Police or Not?
by tinytreeBaren was all smiles as he waved Wang Yun over.
“Brother Wang Yun, have you eaten yet? Honestly, thank you. Today really has been a fine day.”
Wang Yun shook his head.
“Not yet. And there’s no need to thank me so much, Boss Baren. I wasn’t doing it entirely for your sake.”
Baren listened without taking that to heart in the slightest. Of course, he knew Wang Yun had not entered the match for him. But he had benefited from it in the end, and that was what mattered.
Baren looked at Wang Yun and shook his head.
“Your reason isn’t important. What matters is that the outcome made all of us happy, isn’t that right?”
At that, Wang Yun nodded as well.
“Boss Baren does have a clear way of seeing things.”
Colin came over and set the case down on an empty chair nearby. Then he sat in another empty chair and started in on the late-night meal.
The three of them did not stop until they had all eaten their fill.
Then Colin picked up Baren’s case and handed it to him.
Baren accepted it with a broad grin.
“Thank you, Brother Wang Yun. Tomorrow, your big brother here will treat you to something good.”
It wasn’t just the cash in that case that Baren had won tonight. He still had that wager with Walter. That was the real reason he was grinning so hard he could barely close his mouth.
But Wang Yun shook his head.
He had something important to do tomorrow.
How could he possibly have time to sit down to a leisurely meal with Baren?
“I’ve got something to take care of tomorrow, so I won’t be joining you for a meal, Boss Baren.”
Hearing the refusal, Baren did not press the matter. He had only meant it as a gesture of thanks anyway.
Wang Yun glanced at Colin beside him and thought of the contract from before.
“Oh, right, Boss Baren. That contract Colin signed with you…”
He deliberately let the sentence trail off, waiting for Baren to respond.
Baren understood immediately and spoke up at once, “It doesn’t count. None of it counts anymore. Once I get back, I’ll tear that contract up.”
Colin looked at Wang Yun with eyes full of gratitude. There seemed to be a sheen of moisture in them now. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but Wang Yun stopped him with a wave of his hand.
“You don’t need to thank me. I’ll still have to trouble you two to look after Big Mouth for a couple more days. Once I’m finished with what I need to do here, I’ll go pick him up.”
Baren nodded repeatedly.
“Brother Wang Yun has done me such a huge favor. You don’t even need to ask. I’ll make sure that brother of yours is well looked after.”
Wang Yun nodded.
“Then thank you, Boss Baren.”
The two exchanged a few more courtesies before Baren finally headed back to his own room.
That left only Wang Yun and Colin at the dining table.
Colin looked at Wang Yun as though he wanted to speak, but hesitated.
Wang Yun frowned slightly at the man’s awkward silence.
“What is it? If you have something to say, just say it.”
Colin lowered his head. After a long moment of hesitation, he clenched his teeth and forced himself to speak.
“Thank you… for today.”
Wang Yun did not even lift his head.
“If that’s all you wanted to say, then there’s no need.”
That only made Colin more anxious.
“No, not just that. There’s also… well… did you call well… you know?”
Only then did Wang Yun look up and glance at him.
“So what if I did? And what if I didn’t?”
Seeing that reaction, Colin grew even more uneasy. He began rubbing his fingers together unconsciously.
“I know the kind of person you are. Someone like you would never think much of people like this. You’d definitely try to contact them.”
Wang Yun looked at him with faint interest. He hadn’t expected this man to understand him that well.
He nodded.
“And then? What do you plan to do? Go report me?”
Colin had not expected Wang Yun to misunderstand him so badly. He stared at him in alarm and shook his head hard.
“No, no, that’s not what I meant. I… I mean… if you… if you need help… you can ask me.”
It took Colin tremendous effort to force the words out, stumbling over them the whole way.
Once he had said them, it was as if some heavy burden had finally left him. He let out a long breath.
Then he looked at Wang Yun with open hope. In his heart, he truly wanted to help him—even if it was only in some tiny, insignificant way.
Wang Yun looked at him for a moment. Seeing the sincerity on Colin’s face, he smiled and shook his head.
“You guessed right. A place this bloody shouldn’t exist. And those people feasting on blood-soaked profits should be made to spit every last bit of it back out.”
Looking at Wang Yun now, Colin suddenly felt that the man before him had become even taller somehow.
Then Wang Yun continued, “But I won’t need your help.”
The instant Colin heard the refusal, he looked at him anxiously.
“I’ll do anything you need.”
Wang Yun shook his head.
“It’s not that I look down on you. It’s just that tomorrow’s operation will be dangerous. The fewer people who know about it, the better the chances it succeeds.”
Hearing that explanation, Colin still looked unwilling to let it go.
But Wang Yun had already refused him clearly.
There was nothing more he could say.
So, looking a little downcast, Colin picked up the case that belonged to him and turned toward his room.
Wang Yun watched him go, saw the disappointment in his expression, and shook his head.
“Actually, you do have a task tomorrow.”
Colin froze at once, then spun back around, eyes fixed on Wang Yun without blinking.
His face lit with expectation.
“What is it?”
