Chapter 997: Six Men Down Right Away
by tinytreeThe others stared at Wang Yun suspiciously as he and the pigeon continued “cooing” back and forth.
Was this actually a conversation?
All they could hear was endless cooing, and then suddenly the healthy pigeon flew away.
Wang Yun placed the injured pigeon to the side and let it wander around on its own.
Before leaving, he reminded it, “Coo coo. Your wing is injured, so don’t run around recklessly. There are traps everywhere outside.”
“Coo coo, I understand.”
The injured female pigeon immediately began strolling leisurely around the courtyard like an old man out for an evening walk.
Only her wing was hurt; her legs were perfectly fine.
Besides, Wang Yun had fed her a little too much earlier. She needed to walk around and digest her food.
After finishing his instructions, Wang Yun walked back toward Big Mouth and the others.
The moment he got close, he sniffed the air.
“Big Mouth, your meat’s burning.”
Big Mouth instinctively retorted, “Your meat’s burni—”
Before he could finish speaking, he smelled the burnt scent himself.
“Ahhh! My meat!!! My meat’s burned!!!”
Big Mouth’s miserable scream instantly snapped everyone back to reality.
By now, Xiang Xiang had completely transformed into Wang Yun’s number one fangirl—well, fanboy.
Wherever Wang Yun went, he followed right behind him.
Wang Yun could only smile helplessly.
Soon enough, Big Mouth salvaged the snake meat and heated up some water. Everyone ate biscuits alongside the roasted snake and enjoyed another feast. Even though the meat was a tiny bit burnt, it didn’t affect the delicious flavor at all.
After dinner, everyone once again went to bed early.
But the things that had happened today had shocked them too deeply.
Even now, everyone still looked at Wang Yun with disbelief written all over their faces.
Just as Wang Yun closed his eyes, preparing to sleep, the healthy pigeon suddenly flew back.
With Wang Yun’s group already resting, it anxiously began pecking at the window. It continuously cooed loudly.
“Coo coo! Someone’s here! Someone’s here! Coo coo! Hurry up! So many people! So many!”
The pigeon panicked outside, flapping and crashing around everywhere.
The moment Wang Yun heard the little pigeon’s cries, he shot upright instantly.
Ying Yuezi was the most observant of the group.
The moment she noticed Wang Yun’s expression suddenly change, an uneasy feeling rose in her heart.
Xiang Xiang, who was sleeping beside Wang Yun, also widened his sleepy eyes and rubbed them in confusion.
“Boss what’s wrong?”
Wang Yun gently patted his head reassuringly.
“It’s nothing. Go back to sleep.”
Then Wang Yun got up, put on his coat, and walked outside.
Ying Yuezi immediately followed him out. She still couldn’t relax and hurried after him.
“What happened?”
The nights near the sea were cold, and Ying Yuezi wore only a thin inner layer.
Wang Yun frowned when he looked at her.
“Hurry back inside. It’s cold out here. Nothing’s wrong, I’m just going out to check something.”
Wang Yun quickly left without turning back.
Although Wang Yun claimed everything was fine, Ying Yuezi’s feminine intuition told her otherwise.
Something was about to happen.
And it wouldn’t be small.
A cold night wind blew past, making her shiver.
This wasn’t the time for her to get sick and become everyone’s burden.
She quickly returned inside.
The perceptive Xu Shisan looked at Ying Yuezi when she came back alone. His eyes silently questioned her.
Ying Yuezi could only repeat Wang Yun’s explanation.
“Boss said it’s nothing. He just went to check the traps he set earlier.”
Xu Shisan nodded.
As for whether he actually believed that or not, Ying Yuezi no longer had the energy to care.
At this point, Big Mouth’s thunderous snoring had already begun.
Beside her, Xiang Xiang had also fallen asleep.
One after another, everyone drifted off.
Only Ying Yuezi stubbornly forced her eyes to remain open, struggling to stay awake.
Meanwhile, Wang Yun followed the pigeon’s directions while making his way toward the shore.
As he walked, he had to carefully avoid triggering his own traps.
At the same time, he erased all traces of his footsteps.
As a result, his speed was extremely slow.
According to the little pigeon, this group spoke different languages. And there were many of them—around twenty people total.
After a brief moment of thought, Wang Yun immediately understood.
No wonder the artifacts had been hidden in such a lawless place.
The people behind this weren’t all from the same country.
That also explained why there were traces of many people coming and going through the courtyard, yet thick dust had accumulated inside the house itself.
Clearly, almost nobody had entered the building.
It seemed these people weren’t exactly united internally either.
Wang Yun silently began considering how he could take advantage of that weakness.
After walking for more than two hours, Wang Yun finally reached the middle section of the forest.
At that moment, he suddenly spotted firelight ahead, accompanied by the sound of voices.
Wang Yun immediately guessed that this group must be the true owners of the little house—the people who had landed on the island tonight.
At this moment, many of them already had bloodstains smeared across their bodies to varying degrees.
Wang Yun’s traps had already started working.
The traps had frightened them badly enough that they no longer dared continue traveling through the forest at night.
Wang Yun lowered his body carefully to avoid being discovered while silently observing them.
The little pigeon had said there were twenty people.
But only fourteen sat around the fire now.
That meant six of them had already been taken out before even reaching the center of the forest.
Wang Yun narrowed his eyes at the three gloomy-faced men sitting in the middle of the group.
Those three were probably the leaders behind the theft of Dragon Country’s cultural relics.
