Chapter 203: Superficial Harmony (Part 2)
by tinytreeThe visitors were naturally Dark Moon and Red Moon.
Wu Qingsong glanced at the others and said in a low voice, “Ram, Xeila, you two come with me downstairs.”
Then, he quickly awakened their latent abilities.
He wasn’t sure if this would help them resist Red Moon’s power, but since it could bring them out of an induced state, it should have some effect.
“Ah~ Twilight Moon, Tagraedi, I’m so relieved to see you’re safe,” Dark Moon approached them with a joyful expression as soon as he saw them. “Nothing is more important than your safety.”
Wu Qingsong naturally understood that this was a complete lie, but such words made him swallow back the things he originally planned to say.
“Twilight Moon, you don’t look well. Are you hurt?” Red Moon asked with a face full of concern.
“I’m fine, just a bit tired,” Xeila replied. “I didn’t follow orders and killed someone else instead. Is that a problem?”
“Of course, it’s not a problem,” Dark Moon said. “The initial target was set to ensure your safety, but you exceeded our expectations by a hundredfold. Twilight Moon, do you know? The entire Imperial Capital is now in a state of panic. The mutual suspicion and opposition among the elves have been completely stirred up, and even the situation in the Lower City has become tense. Besides, even if we hadn’t managed to incite infighting among the elves, killing a high-level magic warrior is a major victory. Twilight Moon, you might not realize, but no elf of such status has died unnaturally in over a hundred years. You’ve made history. Think about it, the entire Elven Empire only has four to five hundred elves of that level. You’ve significantly weakened their strength. It’s… it’s truly astonishing!”
As the conversation veered off again, Wu Qingsong quickly interrupted, “What’s next? I mean, when do we leave?”
“Leave?” Dark Moon looked puzzled. “Tagraedi, at such a historic moment, don’t you want to be a witness? A driving force of history? Think about it, the mighty Elven Empire is beginning to decline, and all of this is because of your efforts. We’re standing at a historical turning point, Tagraedi.”
“I just want to return to my own territory as soon as possible,” Wu Qingsong replied. “Once is enough for such things. Dark Moon, you may enjoy this, but I am not suited to this environment, nor to these methods.”
“Miss Ram thinks the same way? Sentalus is the mortal enemy of the Silver Moon Wolf Clan. Now there’s a chance to use a simpler method,” Red Moon said.
“Yes, we are all ready to return,” Ram said.
“Miss Ram?” Red Moon looked into her eyes. “If Sentalus is completely embroiled in infighting with Yagata, they will no longer have the energy to deal with the Silver Moon Wolf Clan. The Silver Moon Wolf Clan will have an unprecedented opportunity for development. Such an opportunity…”
These words made Ram hesitate slightly. She couldn’t help but glance at Wu Qingsong, then shook her head.
“We will fight for victory in the Silver Moon way,” she said.
Red Moon wanted to say more, but Dark Moon subtly touched her. “I understand. In that case, we’ll start arranging your departure immediately. Lord Tagraedi, I personally suggest you leave by ship. This way, you can avoid the territories of Yagata and Sentalus, and it’s relatively easier to avoid pursuers at sea.”
“No problem, we’ll leave it to you,” Wu Qingsong said.
“Then we won’t disturb your rest any further.” Dark Moon nodded to them. “Twilight Moon, let’s go.”
“I have something I want to discuss with Twilight Moon, if that’s convenient,” Wu Qingsong said.
He still didn’t know how long Xeila’s ability could last. If she just left with them now, when her ability’s effect wore off, would she once again be influenced by them and make a wrong decision?
Xeila was able to kill Daan Sentalus because he had awakened her latent abilities. Without this potential, she would have had no chance at all. Wu Qingsong could be sure that Dark Moon would not give up using assassination as a means to solve problems. After this success, they might even become more reliant on such methods.
But he had never heard of anyone in history who ultimately won a struggle through assassination alone. This world might be different from his previous one, but the principles should be the same.
He couldn’t allow Xeila to become their tool and then fail and die in some assassination attempt.
Dark Moon’s gaze suddenly turned sharp, but a moment later, he smiled again. “Twilight Moon, what do you think?”
“Twilight Moon?” Red Moon also asked. “Everyone wants to hear what happened, how you managed to…”
“I’m going back tomorrow,” Xeila said.
“Alright, that’s fine. You know we always respect each member’s wishes and never force anyone,” Dark Moon said. “Then, you should rest well.”
He and Red Moon were obviously displeased, but they hid it well, which made Wu Qingsong even more uneasy about them.
Just as the door closed, Xeila’s body suddenly turned transparent.
“Xeila?”
“I’m going to listen to their plans,” Xeila’s voice came from the void, and then she quickly disappeared.
“Ram?”
“We need to be prepared for a potential fallout with them,” Ram said. “But it’s best if we don’t provoke a confrontation.”
Wu Qingsong nodded. This aligned perfectly with his thoughts.
Even disregarding the massive economic benefits of collaborating with Dark Moon, from a practical standpoint, clashing with them immediately would be highly unwise.
He didn’t like Dark Moon and their ilk, but they were entirely unfamiliar with the Imperial Capital, while Dark Moon was the true local power. Falling out with them on their own turf would be extremely disadvantageous for them.
Moreover, every move they made was under Dark Moon’s watchful eyes. This was both a protection and a form of surveillance, leaving them no opportunity to prepare an escape. Any suspicious action would inevitably alert the other side.
If Dark Moon decided to betray them and reveal all their secrets to the elves, they would almost certainly be unable to escape the Imperial Capital. Even if they miraculously succeeded, the identity and status Wu Qingsong had painstakingly acquired, and the territory he had arduously built, could quickly turn to ashes. It’s even possible that when they returned, Orgrimmar would be in ruins, and they would be walking into an elven ambush.
For Dark Moon, it would merely mean abandoning their current base and retreating to an unknown location. For a clandestine organization like theirs, which had likely been operating for many years, this was trivial.
“Let’s wait for Xeila to return,” Wu Qingsong resignedly. “Everyone should stay vigilant.”
