Chapter 249: King vs. King (Part 3)
by tinytree“Nina…” Nina helped Ling up from the ground.
Ling’s face had gone incredibly pale after taking two heavy hits, the backlash clearly affecting her. But despite that, she gritted her teeth and, with Nina’s support, managed to stand back up. Several more short spears appeared in front of her, ready to strike again.
Raman was a bit surprised.
“The half-breed doggirl?” he said to Roderick. “She must be the one from the wanted posters.”
If before, it had seemed like Duke Sentalus was just venting his frustration, things were now becoming undeniable. Everything that had happened in Sentalus, and the chaos that followed, clearly involved the Silvermoon wolves. If they could capture these two women, the truth behind everything would finally be revealed.
“Drop your weapons,” Roderick said again.
But Nina gripped her greatsword even tighter. Ling was clearly ready for another fight.
“You really don’t know when to give up, do you?” Roderick sneered.
The lightning on his sword flared up again. Countless small arcs of electricity danced between the blade, casting a blinding light. With a twisted grin, he slowly advanced toward them.
“Watch out!”
The giant eagle suddenly flew up in alarm, making Raman instantly wary.
At that moment, a massive figure emerged silently from the forest, pouncing towards Roderick.
“You’re asking for death!” Roderick growled, swinging his lightning sword.
A long arc of electricity extended several meters, slicing the shadowy figure clean in half. The foul-smelling corpse fluids sprayed towards him, but were quickly vaporized by the crackling lightning surrounding him.
“He’s here!” Raman said excitedly, raising his staff high.
As he softly chanted a spell, a series of fireballs appeared in front of him and shot towards the forest. In the fiery glow, countless dark shapes could be seen rapidly approaching.
Several undead war wolves lunged at Roderick, but they couldn’t withstand even a single blow from the magic swordsman. Despite being strengthened by necromancy, they were still made of flesh and bone. They stood no chance against the power of his lightning sword.
In the next moment, a barrage of arrows suddenly flew towards him. Some were incinerated by the lightning, but Roderick had to step back as he swiftly batted away the rain of crossbow bolts with his sword.
Fireballs hurtled toward the source of the arrows, igniting the undead lurking in the shadows. But in an instant, even more arrows came at them from different directions, continuing the relentless assault.
“He’s trying to wear us down!” Raman shouted. “We need to find him and take him out.”
With a roar, Roderick moved quickly through the forest, using the trees as cover while charging toward the cluster of undead. Meanwhile, Raman stayed close to Ling and Nina, launching another fireball into the sky to signal the surrounding troops to hurry up and join them.
Roderick’s actions drew most of the undead’s attention—or more accurately, the attention of the necromancer controlling them. The crossbow bolts aimed at Raman decreased significantly, but just then, Nina suddenly leaped forward. She slashed her massive sword down at him.
His magical shield flickered to life just in time, barely deflecting the blow. However, Nina let out a low growl. Her greatsword flowed in a relentless series of strikes.
At the same moment, Liag shot her spears at Raman from all directions. His shield flashed repeatedly.
“Fools!”
Raman snapped, and with a flick of his staff, seven or eight fireballs appeared and shot toward Nina and Ling like meteors. They both dodged. But the fireballs twisted mid-air, circled back, and chased after them.
Raman let out a cold laugh. This was the difference between a mage and mere mortals. It was this kind of power that gave the Elven Empire the confidence to rule the world.
No matter how skilled a swordsman or how powerful they were, in the face of magic, they either bowed down or got smashed to pieces.
He didn’t really want to kill these two valuable witnesses. But since they were being stubborn, it was time to teach them a painful lesson.
Just then, a massive dark shadow came hurtling toward him from about thirty or forty meters away. Raman didn’t have time to dodge, so with a quick thought, he redirected his fireballs to hit the object, but it kept coming, completely unaffected. The enormous mass, wreathed in wind and flames, continued its path straight at him.
His magic shield flared up brightly, barely managing to block it. The force of the impact, however, was so strong that it pushed Raman back a step.
When the object finally hit the ground, Raman realized it was a giant boulder, taller than a man.
More dark shapes came flying at him in rapid succession.
Knowing he couldn’t dodge them all, and unable to move as fast as a magic warrior, Raman conjured a massive ball of fire and shot it in the direction the boulders were coming from.
Let’s see what happens first—will your rocks break through my shield, or will I burn you alive?
A startled yowl rang out from the distance. To his frustration, the attacker cleverly used a large tree to intercept his fireball. The flames exploded, engulfing the entire tree and even setting the surrounding forest ablaze. But the figure darted away, slipping out of Raman’s line of sight once again.
“Catgirl…”
Raman caught a glimpse of her shadow. Another prisoner to deal with, huh?
‘Well, killing one or two of them shouldn’t mess up the overall plan.’
In the next instant, a powerful gust of wind exploded from Nina’s direction. Raman instinctively dodged to the side, only to see a crescent-shaped blade of light flying straight at him. His magic shield flickered for a moment before disintegrating in midair. He barely had time to activate the secondary protection spell on his staff when the glowing arc hit him squarely, sending him flying backward.
Nina cast a glowing orb into Ling’s body, then charged at Raman with her sword raised.
A flurry of fireballs suddenly materialized between them. Nina gripped her sword tightly and dashed straight at them without hesitation. The fireballs converged, erupting into a massive explosion. The next moment, Nina, wrapped in a silver light, emerged from the flames unscathed. With one swift strike, she sent Raman flying again.
“Roderick!” Raman screamed in desperation.
His giant eagle swooped down from the sky, trying to rescue its master from the dire situation. But just as it was about to reach him, Liuli leaped out from the shadows. She grabbed its wing and yanked it down to the ground.
Boom!
With a loud crash, the protective magic on Raman’s staff shattered and dissipated.
“No… this can’t be–”
A silver crescent of light flashed, slicing through his body. Raman was cut clean in half, not even able to finish his final words.
