Chapter 366: The Rampaging Water Elemental
by tinytree“What have the sea draconians been up to?”
“Nothing at all,” she replied in confusion. “They haven’t even bothered to blockade the waters around Gale Island as they usually do. Some daring penguins have even gone into the sea to fish.”
Wu Qingsong frowned slightly.
Meanwhile, over a hundred various sea monsters and more than two thousand undead fishmen had been on the move for two consecutive days. They had now reached a sea area west of Gale Island, hiding as per Wu Qingsong’s orders. Their massive bodies and tough physiques should be enough to withstand the sea draconians’ magic. Meanwhile, over five thousand undead fishmen formed a loose encirclement, ensuring that any escape attempt by the sea draconians would be detected in time.
‘Tomorrow, we end this!’
That was his plan.
Boulder would be able to lead and command half of the undead in the assault against the sea draconians. With that, the battle would be as good as won.
“The wind is picking up,” Mia said worriedly as the evening approached.
“It might not rain,” Wu Qingsong replied.
But the dark clouds in the distance grew thicker and heavier. Before the sky was completely shrouded in darkness, they could already see flashes of lightning flickering through the storm clouds.
“They will definitely come,” Mia said to Wu Qingsong. “They must have been waiting for this opportunity.”
For fishmen, the night imposed some disadvantages, but compared to birdfolk—who could barely see anything once darkness fell—they still retained visibility of their surroundings. This counterbalanced the disadvantage of leaving the water and setting foot on land. In the heavy rain, harpies and birdfolk were almost completely incapable of fighting, leaving only the penguins with some degree of combat ability. Meanwhile, the sea draconians, blessed with an abundance of water elementals, would be able to maximize their magic’s power.
Before Wu Qingsong arrived, such weather would have spelled disaster for the birdfolk.
“Let’s see what they can do then!” Wu Qingsong sent out a command to the undead lurking in the deep waters, ordering them to advance toward Gale Island.
Perhaps it was the thick clouds completely blocking out the last trace of sunlight, but the darkness descended much faster than usual. The rain came down in torrents, carried by fierce gales. At first, it was just a light drizzle, but within minutes, it had turned into a relentless downpour.
In this kind of rain, even Wu Qingsong could hardly see anything.
“All of you, get to the Queen’s palace!” he shouted to Morin and the other non-combatants.
Thunder rumbled. The rain roared. Even those standing close by could barely hear each other. Only in the brief moments between thunderclaps could their voices carry through the storm.
“Draw them onto land,” Boulder said to Wu Qingsong.
“That was my plan exactly.” Wu Qingsong nodded. “Ling and I will hold the harpies and the undead here to resist them. The sea monsters are yours to command, make sure as many of them as possible never leave alive.”
Boulder nodded and swiftly vanished into the darkness. Ling glanced at its retreating figure with concern, then shook her head and refocused on the task at hand.
The undead that had been hidden around the bay had mostly been summoned ashore, lying in wait beneath the sand and soil. The harpies’ feathers were already soaked through, grounding them completely. Now, they could only crouch miserably in the trees, waiting for the sea draconians’ arrival.
‘This is a terrible time for a battle,’ Wu Qingsong thought to himself.
“In this kind of storm, standing in the trees is actually quite dangerous,” he said absentmindedly to the harpies as they waited.
But his words were drowned out by a thunderclap. When the rumbling faded, Mia called out, “Sir, what did you say?”
“Never mind,” Wu Qingsong shook his head. “When the time comes, do as before. Keep them stuck on land for as long as you can.”
“Understood!” Mia replied.
The sea draconians did not waste this opportunity. Wu Qingsong soon lost contact with the undead he had positioned at the edges of the bay.
“They’re here!” he immediately warned the harpies.
The penguin warriors let out loud cries, seemingly to rally themselves, but the enemy did not appear immediately. The waiting stretched unbearably, then suddenly—screams erupted from the back lines.
How did they get around?
“Shit!” Wu Qingsong cursed. “Hold this position! Ling, with me!”
A flash of lightning lit up the battlefield. In that moment, Wu Qingsong saw a massive, transparent mass of water moving across the land in an oddly irregular fashion, slaughtering the penguins hiding there. The creature stood five or six meters tall, resembling a gigantic aquatic monster. Four enormous, translucent arms swept across the ground—wherever they struck, dozens of penguins were sent flying, shrieking in agony.
Wu Qingsong immediately hurled soul shards at the creature—but to his shock, they had no effect.
Almost as if mocking his powerlessness, the elemental extended its long arms and spun violently in place. Over a hundred penguins were flung in all directions, crashing into trees and rock faces, their deaths almost certain.
“You son of a—!” Wu Qingsong roared furiously.
The water elemental seemed to notice him, trampling over the dying penguins as it lumbered forward.
“Ling!” Wu Qingsong shouted.
Three massive boomerangs sliced through the air, converging on the elemental. With its immense bulk, dodging was impossible. But just as Wu Qingsong was about to cheer, the weapons simply sank into the elemental’s body. Their momentum rapidly dissipated, leaving them suspended inside, completely ineffective.
‘It’s immune to physical attacks?’
“We have to find the sea draconian controlling it!” he shouted to Ling.
At that moment, the water elemental was already upon him. A colossal arm, thicker than Wu Qingsong’s entire body, smashed into him, sending him flying. He crashed into a tree, snapping it in half.
‘When it hits others, it’s soft. But when it hits me, it’s hard as a rock? That’s just cheating!’
Wu Qingsong struggled out of the debris, only for the elemental to seize him in one massive hand and pull him into its body.
There were no words to describe the sensation. It was as if he had been thrown into deep water, unable to resurface no matter how hard he swam.
His lungs filled with water. Though he wouldn’t drown, the feeling was just as unbearable.
Lightning flashed. Through the illuminated darkness, he could see the elemental rampaging through the penguins who had trusted him for protection. A suffocating frustration built in his chest, threatening to explode.
“Ling!” he shouted, hoping she had escaped somewhere safe. Her attacks were purely physical—against this monster, she was powerless.
But his voice never reached her. All that emerged were a stream of bubbles.
He thrashed inside the water elemental, desperately struggling to break free.
Then, suddenly, he felt a violent tremor ripple through the entire water mass surrounding him.
What the hell just happened?
Another lightning bolt illuminated the scene.
And there, standing before him, was a silver humanoid figure. With a weapon at least three or four meters wide, it swung powerfully at the water elemental, cleaving it clean in two.
The elemental could no longer maintain its form. It collapsed, and Wu Qingsong was violently ejected, tumbling onto the ground.
But as he spat out water and gasped for air, he stared ahead in complete shock.
That thing…
Is that… a mecha?!
