That evening, Xiao Yu treated his team to dinner, and Mu Qingwu joined them. At the table, everyone called her “sister-in-law,” since Xiao Yu was the youngest in the squad.

Halfway through the meal, something happened. The person Deputy Li had sent to the detention center that afternoon had injured himself and was yelling that he was wrongfully accused.

The mood at the table soured. These were all veteran detectives. False reports were common, and usually, a stern lesson would make people think twice. But someone injuring themselves over a false report? That was unusual.

Deputy Li stood up and said, “I’ll go check the detention center.”

No one felt like eating after that, and the dinner broke up. Xiao Yu and Mu Qingwu had just gotten home when Zhao Changshan called.

“Come to the squad. We’ve got a situation.”

Xiao Yu’s heart sank. He had just been appointed deputy captain, in charge of major cases. If the boss was calling him in, it must be something significant.

Mu Qingwu leaned over and kissed the corner of his lips. “Go, work is important.”

With a wife like this, what more could a man ask for?

“Sis, it’s great to have love,” Xiao Yu said, hugging Mu Qingwu.

“Isn’t it?” Mu Qingwu smiled gently. “Then love me a bit more from now on.”
