Chapter 134: Some Things Haven’t Been Let Go
by tinytreeThe honeymoon was too short but still sweet. Xiao Yu kissed the sleeping Mu Qingwu and got up to make breakfast.
Since they started living together, Mu Qingwu never missed a single meal Xiao Yu cooked. It wasn’t about how the food tasted. It was about cherishing every moment together.
As breakfast was almost ready, as usual, his sister’s small hands wrapped around him from behind. No words were needed to feel each other’s hearts.
Turning off the stove, Xiao Yu turned around and hugged Mu Qingwu.
“Sis, what did you look like when you were little?”
“Hmph!” Leaning into her brother’s embrace, Mu Qingwu laughed playfully. “You don’t deserve to know!”
“…” Xiao Yu wanted to protest. “Please, tell me.”
“All you do is beg, beg, beg…” Raising her head, Mu Qingwu gave him a mock glare. “Just have a baby with me, and you’ll find out.”
“Haha!”
Xiao Yu laughed heartily and kissed his wife.
‘Alright, let’s have one then!’

At the Criminal Investigation unit, a wave of congratulations greeted Xiao Yu as he walked in.
“Boss, I’m back from my leave.”
Entering the instructor’s office, Xiao Yu handed Zhou Tinghu a pack of cigarettes. These were celebratory cigarettes, prepared by his sister, and everyone in the team got one.
The female CEO’s way of handling things was leagues ahead of her mischievous little brother.
“Thanks.”
Zhou Tinghu smiled as he accepted the cigarettes, then his expression changed slightly when he looked at them.
“My wife prepared them.” Xiao Yu smiled. “Everyone gets one.”
Only then did Zhou Tinghu let it go without further comment.
Xiao Yu then went to Zhao Changshan’s office and tossed a pack of cigarettes to his boss as well.
“Go to Beijing.” Zhao Changshan accepted the cigarettes, glanced at Xiao Yu with a somewhat complicated look in his eyes. “Report to the National Security. The big boss there is waiting to meet you.”
“Alright,” Xiao Yu nodded.
Some things were unavoidable. Unless he didn’t want to work in this field anymore.
That was one of the reasons he liked the Criminal Investigation unit so much. The boss was tough, could take the heat, protect his own, and was super strong. The director was a scholar, but when his temper flared, he was even tougher.
In the Criminal Investigation unit, Xiao Yu felt like he was part of a big family. The boss and director were like the parents. They were like a bunch of kids.
When the parents took good care of the kids, none of the kids wanted to leave home.
Joining National Security was out of the question.
As long as Zhao Changshan and Zhou Tinghu were in the Criminal Investigation brigade, there was no way he would go to National Security in this lifetime.
Leaving the Criminal Investigation unit, Mu Qingwu’s Rolls-Royce was waiting outside.
“Let’s go to Beijing,” Xiao Yu said with a smile as he got into the car.
“Yes,” Mu Qingwu nodded gently. “It’s time to check on our family business.”
“Is it big?” Xiao Yu asked, curious.
He didn’t really understand the business world, but he knew many big bosses liked to base their headquarters in Beijing.
“It’s probably pretty big,” Mu Qingwu leaned into her brother’s arms, the strong woman turning into a lamb.
The couple headed to the airport, to a private rental hangar. A small plane was parked there.
Xiao Yu was quite moved because it was their own plane.
After crossing and being reborn, he originally gave up on the boring life of a rich person. But in the end, he still became one.

Four hours later, the plane landed on the runway.
A fleet of business cars was already waiting on the runway, ready to welcome Chairman Mu Qingwu. But there was one Hongqi sedan parked not far away.
The couple got off the plane and exchanged a look.
“See you tonight,” Xiao Yu said as he walked toward the Hongqi car while Mu Qingwu headed toward the convoy.
Beside the Hongqi car, Wang Dong was grinning at Xiao Yu.
Xiao Yu glanced at the car’s license plate, his mouth twitched, and his heart raced.
‘My eyes are going to go blind. My titanium-alloy eyes are going to go blind!’
To be honest, the license plate was a bit intimidating: Beijing A, just two digits.
One could guess what kind of car this was.
“The big boss’s car?” Xiao Yu blinked, looking at Wang Dong.
“Yes,” Wang Dong nodded with a smile. “The boss said that when a hero comes to Beijing to receive an award, the treatment should match the merit.”
“Does it have to be this exaggerated?” Xiao Yu was about to cry.
‘Do you really think riding in the big boss’s car is a good thing? Don’t kid yourself. You might get crushed without even knowing how you died.’
Xiao Yu never wanted to come to Beijing, a place where the waters run shallow but the tortoises were plenty. That was the truth.
“Why so much nonsense? Get in the car.” Wang Dong opened the door, smiling at Xiao Yu.
The head of National Security opens the car door for you, could you handle that?
‘Just keep acting. This brotherhood is definitely plastic.’ Xiao Yu got into the car.
He could handle it.
On the way there, Wang Dong explained the rules for meeting the big boss to Xiao Yu.
Some procedures needed to be explained. After all, the person they were meeting was a top boss of the department.
Proper protocol must be observed.
Xiao Yu listened with one ear and let it out the other.
He was just eager to meet the person, get it over with, and then go find his sister to have some fun.
Who would want to hang out with the National Security people?
Upon arriving at the National Security building, Xiao Yu’s expression turned serious.
He was led by Wang Dong to the minister’s office. After going through a series of checks, they finally stood in front of the office door.
Wang Dong knocked on the door.
Shortly after, a middle-aged man came out. It was the secretary.
The secretary smiled at Wang Dong, nodded, and then looked at Xiao Yu.
“You must be Comrade Xiao Yu. Please come in,” the middle-aged man said, stepping aside.
Xiao Yu took a deep breath and walked in.
The office was large, solemn, and not overly luxurious. An elderly man was sitting behind a desk, reviewing some documents. The old man wore very simple clothing. His hair was white, and his frail and thin body appeared even smaller due to his sitting posture.
As soon as Xiao Yu walked in, the old man raised his head and looked at him calmly. His eyes were serene, yet they had a captivating intensity.
“Salute!”
Xiao Yu, dressed in his police uniform, raised his hand in salute.
The old man smiled faintly and said, “At ease.”
Xiao Yu lowered his hand, standing straight and tall.
“I called you here to ask you two questions.” The old man looked at Xiao Yu, “What are your thoughts on the current era and our country?”
Xiao Yu was taken aback for a moment and remained silent.
“Is it that you don’t want to say, or you don’t know how to say it?” The old man smiled.
“Actually, it’s that I don’t know how to say it.” Xiao Yu looked at the old man, “We do not live in a peaceful era, we are just fortunate to live in a peaceful country.”
The old man’s eyes suddenly brightened. He looked at Xiao Yu deeply, “Why not join National Security?”
Xiao Yu smiled slightly, “There are some things I haven’t let go of yet.”
