First, it was certain that the body was stolen while the security guard was patrolling. When the guard noticed something unusual in cold storage room no. 2 and went inside to check, the thief placed the female corpse in front of the corridor door. Xiao Yu inspected the corridor and walked to the door, noticing passages on both sides leading to an electrical box on the wall not far away.

Did the thief turn off the power, carry the body, place it in front of the guard, and then return to turn the power back on?

Xiao Yu felt that the operation lacked technical finesse and was quite crude. The guard, being timid, mistook the movements in the darkness for the corpse walking towards him.

Suddenly, Xiao Yu froze. He recalled a part of the security guard’s statement. 

“I heard footsteps, not the kind made by shoes on the ground, but the faint sound of someone walking barefoot, gradually coming towards me.”

“Yikes!” Xiao Yu gasped, feeling a chill run down his spine as his scalp tingled.

No, something was off.

If someone was carrying another person while walking, regardless of how light or heavy, whether barefoot, in socks, or shoes… the sound wouldn’t be faint. Carrying a person on a concrete floor would produce a heavy, dull sound due to the combined weight, not a light one.

‘Damn,’ Xiao Yu almost wanted to curse.

If the deduction was correct, it could only mean… that the female corpse walked to the guard on its own and then lay down?

Unconsciously, sweat began to bead on Xiao Yu’s forehead.

First of all, after a person dies, their body becomes stiff. In other words, once someone turns into a corpse, they’re as rigid as a wooden stick. How could they bend their body to sit on the ground and lean against a door?

That was laughable. If someone had already become a ghost, would they need to collaborate with you?

So, the only explanation was that there was something wrong with the female corpse. Or perhaps, the female corpse that the guard saw wasn’t actually a corpse at all. 

Remember, a stiff corpse can’t sit or walk.

“Someone pretending to be a ghost?” Xiao Yu’s eyes flashed with a cold, sharp light. “The body was already removed at that time?”

If someone was indeed pretending to be a ghost, this operation couldn’t have been done by one person alone.

‘Something doesn’t add up. If the goal was to steal the body, why go to the trouble of creating a supernatural event? First, they mess with the body bag? Then scare the security guard? Unless…’ 

Xiao Yu’s eyes lit up as he muttered to himself, “Are you deliberately creating the illusion of a resurrected corpse?”

“Deliberately creating the illusion of a resurrection?” Guo Qiang frowned. “What’s the purpose?”

“There could be many purposes,” Xiao Yu said with a grin. “But the biggest one would be to use the corpse to scare certain people.”

First, let the news of the resurrected corpse spread. Once it reached certain people’s ears, then use the corpse to intimidate or frighten them?

“Of course, there’s another possibility.” Xiao Yu’s expression turned cold.

“You mean…” Guo Qiang’s eyes widened. “The corpse is problematic, and the deceased didn’t die of natural causes?”

Guo Qiang wasn’t as sharp as Xiao Yu, but he wasn’t clueless either.

“Exactly,” Xiao Yu nodded. “It’s highly likely that the death wasn’t natural. If it was murder… that would be interesting.”

Guo Qiang felt a chill. If this were true, the method was terrifying. Even slightly timid people wouldn’t just steal a corpse; they’d be too scared to even look at one, let alone use it to frighten others.

Stealing a corpse from the morgue and then using it to scare people—no normal person would have the guts to do that.

“It seems we need to have a good chat with the person who reported this,” Xiao Yu said as he walked out of the morgue.

He wanted to confirm something. Most of his analysis was based on speculation, leaning toward a human explanation. But what if?

What if it really was a ghost?

He needed to confirm it with the security guard. Otherwise, Xiao Yu wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight.
