    Chapter Index

Under the beam of the flashlight, the sight of rotting flesh and eerie white bones emerged, creating a scene that seemed to be pulled straight from the depths of hell. Even though Xiao Yu and Wang Dong were far from ordinary people, the sight before them made their hearts tremble.

It took them a moment to recover.

Xiao Yu exhaled, lowering his arm and closing the metal door. He shut out the horrifying scene from view and turned to Wang Dong.

At that moment, Wang Dong also took a deep breath, and his eyes glinted with a murderous intent that was hard to describe.

The killing aura around him was palpable.

Xiao Yu could clearly feel it. This was a man who had killed many times. And right now, Wang Dong was itching to kill again.

Not just Wang Dong, Xiao Yu himself was struggling to control his own desire for vengeance.

Xiao Yu patted Wang Dong on the shoulder and shook his head. “Brother Wang, if you lose control now, there’s no going back.”

In this line of work, you have to follow the rules. No matter how much hate or anger you carry, as long as you wear that uniform, you can’t break the rules. If even the enforcers don’t follow the rules, the world would fall into chaos.

But within those rules, there’s still room to… administer some justice.

    Wang Dong’s breathing halted.

Then he took a deep breath and exhaled forcefully, calming himself. The murderous aura gradually faded.

Wang Dong’s expression slowly returned to its usual coldness, the icy look in his eyes receding.

“Heh, didn’t expect it to be you teaching me,” Wang Dong laughed sarcastically. “Remember when we caught that guy who could fly? You were the one who severed his tendons, weren’t you?”

“I almost forgot about that,” Xiao Yu grinned innocently. “But I think he attacked me first, so I was just defending myself.”

Exactly—it was justice within the boundaries of the rules.

‘I can’t just stand there and let you beat or kill me, can I?’

Like in the last case with the assassin group, Xiao Yu showed no mercy. Because if you don’t kill them, they’ll kill you.

“Let’s go. Let’s see what this freak has been up to.”

The smile on Xiao Yu’s face was replaced by a cold, stern expression as he turned and began walking forward. Wang Dong’s face also hardened, a frosty look settling in.

After taking just three steps, Xiao Yu stopped again. In front of them stood a metal door.

“We’ll need tools for this,” Wang Dong whispered, noting that the door resembled a security door, nearly impossible to break down without the proper equipment.

“No time for that,” Xiao Yu said, taking a step back, then another, before crouching down.

Wang Dong stepped aside, leaning against the wall to give him more space. He knew what Xiao Yu was about to attempt but couldn’t help wondering if it would work.

    Activating Bear’s Strength…

With a soft thud underfoot, Xiao Yu’s body seemed to blur as he shot forward like a charging bull.

Wang Dong barely registered the movement before…

    Crash!

Xiao Yu’s body collided with the metal door with a force that shook the walls. The door itself remained intact, but the concrete surrounding it cracked and crumbled under the impact. In an explosion of dust and debris, Xiao Yu barreled through, still pushing the door in front of him.

    Bang!

The metal door slammed to the ground, revealing a metallic room before Xiao Yu. The space was about fifty square meters, with metal walls made of magnesium-aluminum alloy. Strange tools lined the walls, and in the center stood a metal bed with a bizarre framework beside it.

A man in surgical scrubs was standing next to the frame, but Xiao Yu’s attention was drawn elsewhere.

A red-black, humanoid figure was rushing toward him.

    “Ahhh!”

A chilling scream tore through the air, emanating from the gaping mouth of the figure. It had a vaguely human shape, but its entire body was a grotesque mass of blood and flesh, with white bones visible in some places. Its face, a horrifying red, was twisted with exposed teeth in a grimace of pure malevolence.

Xiao Yu froze, not in fear but in sorrow. He realized this wasn’t some monster.

    It was a person.

A person who had been skinned alive.

    And was still alive.

    Thud!

The bloodied figure crashed into Xiao Yu’s arms, still screaming in agony. But as it struggled, its strength began to fade, and the screams grew weaker and weaker.

Finally, as the figure collapsed, Xiao Yu heard its final, gasping words.

    “He…isn’t…human…he will…die…a terrible death!”

The bloodied, flesh-torn figure collapsed to the ground, its body stained red with blood. But Xiao Yu’s expression remained calm, almost numb. He quietly looked down at the lifeless form at his feet and slowly spoke, “Don’t worry, I promise you, he won’t die a good death.”

His voice was steady, yet it carried the weight of a vow.

Suddenly, a flash of silver sliced through the air, aimed directly at Xiao Yu’s carotid artery. But Xiao Yu didn’t flinch. Instead, he calmly raised his hand.

    Snap!

He caught hold of the hand wielding the scalpel. Only then did Xiao Yu lift his gaze from the mutilated corpse and look up. He spotted Wang Dong standing in the doorway and smiled.

“Brother Wang, could you step outside for a moment?”

Without hesitation, Wang Dong turned and left the room. Outside, he blocked a group of national security personnel and SWAT officers from entering, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. He lit one, took a drag, and exhaled slowly.

Wang Dong knew what his younger brother was about to do. He also understood that, given Xiao Yu’s nature, the man inside wouldn’t die, though he knew if it were him, the outcome would be different. This was why Wang Dong felt that Xiao Yu was better than him—why the higher-ups held Xiao Yu in such high regard.

For ten long minutes, there were no screams or cries, only an unsettling sound—a faint crackling that could only be bones being crushed, bit by bit. The sound sent shivers down the spines of Wang Dong and the others outside.

Then, Xiao Yu emerged from the room, his expression as calm as ever. He nodded at Wang Dong, giving him a slight smile.

That simple smile sent a chill down Wang Dong’s spine, making him shudder involuntarily.

“You take it from here,” Xiao Yu said softly. “I’m exhausted. I’m heading home.”

“Alright,” Wang Dong nodded, watching as Xiao Yu climbed out of the sewer, step by step, until he disappeared from sight.

Snapping back to reality, Wang Dong turned and walked into the metal room. As soon as he saw what was inside, the seasoned leader of the team squatted down.

    And vomited…
