    Chapter Index

The morning sun always had a gentle touch.

Putting down the spatula, Xiao Yu looked up, gazing at the sunlight outside the window. A cool breeze drifted in through the kitchen window, brushing against him, carrying with it a faint hint of floral fragrance.

Suddenly, a pair of soft, fair hands wrapped around his waist, bringing Xiao Yu back to reality.

“Bad brother, is breakfast ready yet? I’m so hungry!”

Mu Qingwu’s soft, sultry voice came from behind.

“You don’t feel sorry for your poor brother at all. Now all my sister cares about is food.”

Xiao Yu smiled as he turned to look at Mu Qingwu’s beautiful face, a smile that could captivate anyone.

    “What?”

Mu Qingwu raised her red lips and planted a kiss on her brother’s lips.

“…” Xiao Yu rolled his eyes, “Kissing won’t work, I—”

“What?” Mu Qingwu kissed him again.

    Xiao Yu, “…”

The sweetness was becoming a bit much to handle.

“Hurry up.” Mu Qingwu let go of him, gently caressing her belly with a playful smile. “The baby’s hungry too.”

“Fine, fine.” Xiao Yu gave in, grinning. “Almost done.”

‘Sister really knows how to push my buttons, always going for my soft spot.’

    “Ha!”

With a playful chuckle, Mu Qingwu reached out and playfully smacked her brother’s butt.

Knowing when to stop before things escalated, she twisted her waist and dashed off, teasing him as she made her escape.

    “Tsk!”

Xiao Yu couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. He realized that his wife had picked up some bad habits, and it seemed like she learned them from him.

The young couple happily ate the breakfast he had prepared. Mu Qingwu’s appetite had been great recently, probably due to the pregnancy, and she was eating a lot more. Luckily, she hadn’t experienced any nausea, vomiting, or other typical early pregnancy symptoms.

    In the morning.

Xiao Yu drove his wife to her prenatal check-up.

During the appointment, he was more anxious than Mu Qingwu. It almost seemed like he was the one who was pregnant.

The doctor even warned him to watch out for prenatal depression.

Was that a thing? A man getting prenatal depression?

    Don’t laugh, it’s actually possible.

Some men, after their wives get pregnant, worry about everything all day, and because of the constant stress, they end up with prenatal depression.

Seeing him like this made Mu Qingwu feel both touched and amused. The fact that her husband cared so much that he almost made himself sick filled her heart with warmth and happiness.

The female bodyguard who always followed them couldn’t help but chuckle at Xiao Yu’s nervousness.

    Female bodyguard?

Xiao Yu had asked Wang Dong to find a retired senior officer from National Security to look after her. Not only to protect his wife but now also to take care of her during the pregnancy.

Mu Qingwu’s old bodyguards were now just responsible for security during travel.

This senior officer was in charge of everything at home.

    As for her skills…

Let’s put it this way: don’t be fooled by the fact that Sister Bai was in her forties.

If Xiao Yu didn’t use his abilities or skills, she could probably take him down ten times over—and let’s not even talk about other people.

It was only thanks to Xiao Yu’s connections and Wang Dong’s help that they managed to hire someone like her. Otherwise, when someone like that retired, they usually got hired to look after the wives and daughters of important figures.

“Sister Bai, let’s head to my parents’ place.”

Hugging his wife, Xiao Yu smiled as he spoke to the middle-aged woman driving.

“Alright.” Bai Ting nodded as she drove, speaking very little.

Watching the couple’s sweet interactions, her usual poker face occasionally softened into a gentle smile.

    Happiness really is contagious.

When they arrived at Xiao Yu’s parents’ house, Mu Qingwu’s status instantly skyrocketed. As a mother-in-law, Liu Yunqing wouldn’t let Mu Qingwu lift a finger, insisting on taking care of her wonderful daughter-in-law herself. Every now and then, she’d glance at Mu Qingwu’s still-flat stomach and grin to herself in delight.

Even Kara, the family bulldog, started behaving better.

Instead of circling around to please Mu Qingwu, she quietly stayed by her side, occasionally sniffing at her.

It was like the little bulldog knew her mistress was pregnant, standing guard like a tiny bodyguard.

When Xiao Yu’s mother-in-law arrived, both families spent the day happily together, enjoying each other’s company.

    Nighttime.

The young couple didn’t head straight home. They sat on a long bench in the big square, watching groups of children playing, young couples laughing and teasing each other, and parents calling out to their kids.

Both Xiao Yu and Mu Qingwu had smiles on their faces.

“What do you like about me?” Mu Qingwu snuggled into her brother’s arms.

    Xiao Yu’s mouth twitched.

‘Here we go again. Why do girls never tire of asking: What do you like about me? What do you love about me? Are you sure you still love me?’ It’s like they need reassurance all the time. If you answer poorly, or worse, show any impatience… Well, let’s just say you’re in for some cold, cold treatment!’

“I don’t even know why I like you, sister, or what it is I like about you.” Hugging Mu Qingwu, Xiao Yu smiled and said, “But I just do. I like you a lot, more and more every day. Silly sister, you don’t need a reason to like someone.”

“Ha!” Mu Qingwu’s radiant smile bloomed like a hundred flowers, but she quickly buried her face in her brother’s chest. “Then say it in Lu Xun’s tone… ‘I love you!’”

‘Damn,’ Xiao Yu was stunned. ‘Wait, sis, you’re on a whole new level now?  Is a regular “I love you” not enough? Going all poetic on me?’

Feeling his scalp tingle, Xiao Yu rolled his eyes, “I quietly gazed out the window, the white clouds looked like a figure, always pulling me into a dream I couldn’t wake from. When I tried to touch you, you scattered like a dandelion, and suddenly, your image was everywhere.”

“Bad brother!” Mu Qingwu hugged Xiao Yu’s waist tightly, “I want to hear more.”

“Sunflowers have a beautiful meaning,” Xiao Yu said calmly. “I will always belong to you, don’t question my feelings or my love. What’s yours, I’ll never share with anyone. We’ll have a lifetime together, but not forever.”

    “Mhm.” Mu Qingwu nodded.

“Feels nice to be spoiled, huh?”  Xiao Yu smiled as he held his sister. “Sis, when you’re tired, you can be my little friend too.”

I can spoil you too, you know!

Mu Qingwu rested her cheek against her brother’s chest. Her eyes curved into a smile, her heart filled with sweetness.

Xiao Yu leaned down and kissed her cheek, then looked at the people in the distance.

The world is so big, and having someone who treats you well isn’t easy.

After living two lives, he understood this better than anyone. And he’d treasure it even more.

Cherish those who treat you well. If you lose them, you may never find them again.
