Chapter 254: Heart-Stopping Moment
by tinytreeSomething was wrong with this kid.
Through his Eagle’s Eye vision, Xiao Yu’s heart pounded. He felt an intense sense of danger, like never before. His gaze locked onto the child, who was just ten meters away and quickly closing in.
A six- or seven-year-old—what could be the issue?
But on that innocent face, Xiao Yu saw a look of pure terror. The boy’s eyes were filled with tears, and his body leaned back as he ran toward them.
Then there was his clothing…
No, more accurately, his chest and stomach—something was bulging there.
What was that?
A chill ran down Xiao Yu’s spine, and his whole body tensed. His danger instincts screamed at him—something was about to explode.
‘Damn it!’
Xiao Yu instantly dropped into a half-crouch. In the next moment, he pushed off the ground.
Boom!
The ground beneath him seemed to rumble as he launched forward like an arrow skimming the ground. In the blink of an eye, he crossed the ten-meter gap.
Skill activated: Flea Jump.
The sight left Wang Dong and the others stunned. Even the couple in the distance were dumbfounded as they watched Xiao Yu’s figure dart from his original spot. In a flash, he was right next to the child.
What happened next left everyone in shock.
With a swift, slicing kick, his leg came down like an axe, striking the child’s midsection.
For a moment, everyone was frozen in place. They couldn’t understand why would Xiao Yu attack a child.
The kid was so young. How could he go through with it?
But…
Xiao Yu’s kick looked brutal as it connected with the kid’s chest, but it didn’t make a sound. Instead, the boy’s body arced through the air, flying back towards the couple.
As the child soared toward them, the couple’s expressions changed. A flicker of fear crossed their faces.
Fear?
If they were really the parents, shouldn’t they be worried about their kid? So why did they look scared?
Thud.
Xiao Yu launched himself again, and as the child in mid-air drew everyone’s attention, Xiao Yu dashed forward like a cheetah. He quickly outpaced the kid and landed in front of the couple. He focused on the man, zeroing in on his hand.
Crack!
Xiao Yu grabbed the man’s hand and broke it with sheer strength. Something resembling a toy remote fell from the man’s grip.
Ignoring the device, Xiao Yu spun and caught the falling boy, cradling him gently. He used the momentum to step back and absorb the force of the fall.
Then, without missing a beat, he turned and stepped up to the woman. Holding the child securely, he got close and, with a quick motion, delivered a solid headbutt right to her nose.
Thud… Crack!
The woman screamed and shut her eyes in pain. She stumbled back and flailed her arms.
In her hand, Xiao Yu caught a glimpse of a gun. He quickly tossed the child toward a nearby greenbelt and then dropped low, pouncing on the retreating woman like a leopard. As he launched himself, his knee shot forward.
Thud!
The force of his knee collided with her face, sending her flying.
As he landed, Xiao Yu twisted his waist and swung his leg like a whip.
His kick connected with the man’s cheek, knocking him out cold before he could even react.
Xiao Yu took a deep breath, exhaling hard. Without sparing a glance for the unconscious couple, he stepped over to the child.
With a quick rip, he tore open the kid’s shirt, revealing a bomb strapped to his chest.
Just then, Wang Dong and the rest of the team rushed over. They froze when they saw the device. The bomb was covered with tightly packed steel balls, and their faces went pale.
Imagine if the child had reached them—what kind of scene would they have faced?
Wang Dong’s eyes landed on the remote lying on the ground, dropped by the man. His pupils shrank as he stared at it. The other officers stiffened as they caught sight of the makeshift gun near the woman.
Without Xiao Yu’s quick action, they would’ve been done for.
Anyone who thinks criminals lack intelligence has no idea how dangerous it can get when they actually put their minds to it.
That was the reality of facing terrorists.
“Looks like we’ve been exposed.”
Xiao Yu reached out, placing his hands on the crying child and the bomb strapped to his chest. His fingers moved swiftly, darting like butterflies, deftly handling the device. Within seconds, he’d dismantled it and removed the trigger.
Skill: Bomb Disposal Expert.
“Got it!”
Wang Dong nodded firmly, snapping back to reality. The rest of the team was already on high alert, keeping an eye on their surroundings. They didn’t need Xiao Yu to remind them of the danger. They’d just had a close call.
This confirmed it: the terrorists’ hideout had to be somewhere nearby.
“Surveillance, huh?”
After disarming the bomb, Xiao Yu scanned the area. He’d spotted several cameras around the power plant when they first entered. Initially, he’d thought they were just part of the facility’s normal setup, but now he realized the terrorists had taken control of them.
Whirr, whirr, whirr!
The sound of helicopter rotors filled the air as two armed choppers circled overhead. Xiao Yu could see two snipers perched on one, rifles ready. Even more intense, he noticed one of the helicopters had mounted a minigun—a Vulcan cannon, the kind that could fire five to six thousand rounds a minute.
Over the top? Not when dealing with terrorists.
Ignoring the helicopters hovering above, Xiao Yu’s eyes locked onto a large, older warehouse in the distance. This one stood out, surrounded by thick trees and overgrown with weeds. The building stretched nearly 200 meters, its rooftop camouflaged among the greenery.
And lying flat on that rooftop was someone watching them.
