    Chapter Index

It was night, and the summer breeze was soft and lingering.

In the Criminal Investigation Division, Xiao Yu sat with a dazed expression, chewing on his food as he raised his gaze to the starry sky above.

“Where could Liu Yunwei be hiding?” he murmured.

“If you don’t eat properly, I’ll really have to hit you,” a melodious, sultry voice with a touch of teasing softness pulled Xiao Yu’s thoughts back from the case.

Turning his gaze, he looked at the breathtakingly beautiful face beside him. It was truly a masterpiece of nature. Even the most critical eyes couldn’t find a single flaw in her figure or appearance. Like a lotus blooming under the starlit August sky, she was elegant, pure, and radiant.

‘Wait a minute! This is my girl.’

Snapping back to his senses, Xiao Yu grinned foolishly as he stared at his wife.

    “Look at you, silly!”

Rolling her enchanting eyes at her goofy younger brother, Mu Qingwu’s smile was impossible to conceal.

That smile added a glimmering touch to her already stunning face, making her glow even brighter. She was dazzling.

There’s a saying: a woman beautifies herself for the one she loves. And it wasn’t just a saying.

Mu Qingwu only wanted to show her best side, giving everything she could to her little brother.

After wolfing down his meal, Xiao Yu grabbed her hand and rushed toward the door with urgency.

“Hah…” Mu Qingwu chuckled softly behind her hand.

How could she not know what her little brother wanted to do?

    Inside the car.

After fervently kissing his wife for ten whole minutes, Xiao Yu finally pulled back. Satisfied, he held Mu Qingwu in his arms. He sighed.

“I really envy that saying: ‘You’re doing well, I’m doing well too. Even if we fight, even if we argue, we never break up. I love you, and you love me. Let’s stay public but keep things low-key. Naughty sister, did you hear that?”

    “I did.”

Mu Qingwu leaned against her brother’s chest, her eyes shimmering with a dreamy light.

    “Sis.”

    “What?”

    “The moonlight is beautiful.”

    “And then?”

    “You’re beautiful too!”

    “…”

    “Haha!”

Xiao Yu flung the car door open and dashed off, running straight back to the Criminal Investigation Unit. Flirting and then bolting, it was a rush.

    “Haha!”

Inside the car, Mu Qingwu laughed softly as she watched her brother’s retreating figure.

When you like someone, the first thing you care about is always their emotions—their happiness, anger, sorrow, and joy—not the glory or brilliance they might bring. If they’re happy, then you’re happy. Isn’t that how it works?

The reason Xiao Yu didn’t stay with his wife a little longer was because his sharp ears caught a few startled exclamations from inside the Criminal Investigation Unit.

    Something had happened.

“Boss! We’ve located the suspect Liu Yunwei,” Guo Qiang reported excitedly.

    “That doesn’t seem right.”

Far from being excited, Xiao Yu frowned deeply. How could they have found him so quickly?

If the suspect really was the kind of perfectionist criminal Xiao Yu believed him to be, finding him would be unimaginably difficult—far beyond the capabilities of ordinary people.

    Why did he think that?

In his previous life, even with his mind working at full capacity, it had taken Xiao Yu six full months to capture a perfectionist criminal.

‘Did I overestimate him? Or am I just ridiculously lucky?’

Snapping out of his thoughts, Xiao Yu and his colleagues quickly climbed into their police cars.

Three squad cars roared out of the Criminal Investigation unit, speeding toward their destination.

“When we issued the fugitive alert, a citizen reported seeing the suspect hiding somewhere.”

In the car, Zhao Changshan was a little excited, his tone carrying the thrill of an imminent breakthrough.

Issuing the alert and immediately getting a sighting of the suspect?

    Xiao Yu narrowed his eyes.

With his experience, he knew that a perfectionist criminal, even when on the run, would have exceptionally thorough methods of concealment. Forget leaving clues—under conventional means, it would be impossible to detect even the faintest trace of them.

Did they think calling someone a perfectionist criminal was just for fun?

Moreover, Xiao Yu had uncovered something intriguing at Liu Yunwei’s house. Not only was the suspect skilled at disguising himself as a woman, but his impersonation was so flawless it could fool anyone.

And yet, the Criminal Investigation unit had issued the fugitive alert with a photo of Liu Yunwei’s real face.

If you were him, would you still be walking around with your original face?

Why not use makeup to escape detection?

    It didn’t add up.

Xiao Yu’s gaze turned thoughtful as he glanced at Zhao Changshan beside him.

“What kind of look is that?”

As a seasoned investigator, Zhao Changshan immediately became alert to the odd expression on his younger colleague’s face.

“Nothing.” Xiao Yu shook his head and grinned, baring his teeth. “I just suddenly thought, Boss, you’re actually pretty good-looking.”

    Zhao Changshan, “???”

Did he just call a guy in his forties or fifties good-looking?

‘What the hell is this kid trying to do?’

Zhao Changshan’s pupils dilated involuntarily, his heart rate quickened, and a strong sense of wariness rose within him.

Seeing his boss look so alarmed, Xiao Yu nearly burst out laughing.

‘Damn it, I still haven’t kicked my bad habit of blurting out nonsense.’

    ***

Forty minutes later, in a residential area on the outskirts of the city.

The Criminal Investigation unit began checking their firearms as they prepared to move. Zhao Changshan flexed his arm before leading the group, including Xiao Yu, into the residential complex.

    Target: Building 31, Unit 3, Apartment 401.

    Boom!

The door was forcefully kicked open.

The officers stormed inside, sweeping through the apartment.

Downstairs, Xiao Yu and Zhao Changshan stood waiting with somber expressions.

With over ten officers sent to apprehend one person, if they couldn’t catch him, they might as well quit on the spot.

Xiao Yu wasn’t concerned about anything going wrong because he still couldn’t figure out why the suspect had been located so easily. If the suspect had been found so quickly, it indicated he wasn’t as skilled as expected.

Whether Xiao Yu went upstairs or not wouldn’t make much difference. His colleagues wouldn’t be in any danger.

As expected, things played out almost exactly as Xiao Yu had anticipated.

About ten minutes later, two officers escorted a man out of the building and brought him before Xiao Yu and Zhao Changshan.

Xiao Yu frowned as he looked at the man.

    It was him.

This was indeed the suspect, Liu Yunwei.

He’d seen him just a few days ago. But, Xiao Yu frowned not because he doubted the man’s identity, but because something strange had occurred. He couldn’t sense that familiar aura on Liu Yunwei anymore. The aura of a perfectionist criminal.

    Could it be a fake?

No, the man standing before him was undeniably the same Liu Yunwei he had met earlier. With the sharp perception of his Eagle’s Eye, there was no mistaking it. There was also no possibility of a twin or lookalike.

    Xiao Yu was perplexed.

    What was going on here?

Did the perfectionist criminal’s aura that had surrounded this man suddenly vanish?
