    Chapter Index

Yu Anan trembled. Her face was frozen in terror, panic, and fear until a hand gently patted her shoulder.

“I know remembering this is painful,” Xiao Yu said with a calm smile. “But you want to catch him, don’t you? You hate him, don’t you? You don’t want to see him walking free.”

The fear in Yu Anan’s eyes slowly faded, replaced by a deep, burning hatred. She nodded, hard.

    Then, she began to speak.

“I just finished my yoga class that night, like always. It was… a little before 11 PM.”

Her voice was quiet, her head lowered.

“Yoga class?” Xiao Yu asked. “Why so late?”

“I work during the day and I wasn’t happy with my figure, so I took up yoga.” Yu Anan explained, “I usually get off work around 4:30 PM, grab something to eat, and start my yoga class at seven. It lasts three hours. After changing and showering, it takes another thirty minutes. I normally get home around 11.”

No discrepancies. The timeline checked out. No signs of lying.

    Xiao Yu nodded. “Go on.”

“That night was just like any other, I took a taxi home.”

Yu Anan’s expression twisted with fear.

“The main entrance of my complex is pretty far from my building, so I usually get dropped off at the back entrance. From there, I walk through a short alley, only about ten meters, to reach the gate.”

    She took a shuddering breath.

“That’s when it happened. Someone jumped out out of nowhere. They grabbed me and pressed a towel over my face.”

Chloroform or some kind of anesthetic. Xiao Yu’s eyes narrowed.

    “I struggled, but… he was so strong…”

    Yu An’an’s voice trembled.

    “Then… everything went black.”

“Can you describe his face or build in more detail?” Xiao Yu asked.

“It was too dark, I couldn’t see his face. He was wearing a black mask so I couldn’t make out his eyes either.” Yu Anan strained to recall. “His build… he wasn’t very tall. A bit taller than me, maybe? Very thin, but incredibly strong. He was wearing… black sportswear.”

Taller than her, but not by much. Xiao Yu glanced at Yu Anan—she looked around 165 cm. So, that would put him at roughly 170 cm?

    Thin, yet strong…

The initial assessment suggested it should be a man.

    Wait.

Xiao Yu thought of the woman in red. A female suspect couldn’t be ruled out.

No defining facial features. Just this vague description was nowhere near enough to track someone down.

“What happened after that?” Xiao Yu pressed. “For example, how did you wake up?”

    “I…”

Yu Anan’s face went deathly pale. Her voice trembled.

    “He was raping me… I wanted to resist, but I couldn’t move. I couldn’t see, I couldn’t scream… but I knew. I knew he was raping me.”

Xiao Yu fell silent for a moment.

“Can you describe the process? Any details?”

It wasn’t a comfortable question to ask, but he needed to confirm a theory—one that had surfaced in his earlier discussions with He Li.

“Details?” Tears streamed down Yu Anan’s face. She bit her lip hard. “I… I don’t know. I just know he was raping me but something was strange.”

    Her body trembled violently.

    “He never touched me.”

    Xiao Yu froze.

“You mean he didn’t make physical contact with your body?”

“Yes!” Yu Anan nodded firmly, her voice shaking. “I never felt him touch me, but he was raping me. I’m sure of it!”

    Xiao Yu was stunned.

How was that even possible? How could a man and a woman do that without physical contact? Was she telling him a ghost story?

A strange glint flickered in his eyes.

It was possible. But it didn’t necessarily have to be a person doing it. Just like he had analyzed with He Li before, it could be a device.

“Could you feel the speed? The duration?” Xiao Yu asked in a low voice. “And… did you hear any other unusual sounds?”

“So long… so, so long. The same speed. It went on forever… an hour, maybe two… I don’t know, I don’t know!” Yu Anan suddenly clutched her head, screaming. “It hurt! It hurt so much!”

He Li, her eyes filled with sympathy, stepped forward and held Yu Anan in her arms. She turned to Xiao Yu and shook her head.

But she saw the young officer standing there, head lowered, lost in thought.

    The same speed?

    An hour, maybe two?

Could a man even do that?

    That would be godlike.

No physical contact, yet still violating her? The same unchanging rhythm for an hour or two?

Xiao Yu suddenly snapped his head up.

It was clear now. It was a mechanized device—something that operated automatically. That explained the severe tearing injuries. Which meant it wasn’t necessarily a man committing the assault. It could have been a woman, using a device to torture Yu An.an.

And this wasn’t just perversion anymore.

The perpetrator had a clear purpose—causing pain, inflicting suffering, watching the victim break.

    A long silence followed.

Yu Anan, her breathing shaky, forced herself to continue.

“Then… he stopped raping me. But he took out a stick.” Her voice trembled with rage and fear. “He kept hitting me. My arms, my legs… and then…”

    Her whole body shook.

“He kept beating me… for at least an hour, maybe two. Yes… it must have been that long. He didn’t give me food. He didn’t give me water. And in the end, he stabbed my back with a knife.”

    Yu Anan’s voice trembled.

“It hurt so much. He was slicing my flesh, cutting it off piece by piece. I don’t even know how many times I passed out from the pain, how many times I woke up just to suffer all over again. He never stopped torturing me. I don’t remember if it was two days or three. But at some point, I blacked out completely. And when I woke up again…”

    Tears welled in her eyes.

    “I saw the police.”

    Yu Anan had recounted everything.

She couldn’t speak during those days of torment. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t see.

Yet she knew someone was torturing her. She just didn’t know who.

Not their face. Not even their gender.

All she could do was assume that it had to be a man based on the assault. Which meant Yu Anan had no idea where she had been held.

Using his expertise in psychological profiling, Xiao Yu worked to fully calm her down. Through subtle psychological guidance, he soothed her trauma as best he could.

Then, the moment he stepped out of the hospital room, his expression turned ice-cold.

“What did you find?” He Li asked, her own mood heavy.

As a woman, Yu Anan’s ordeal filled her with rage.

“There’s a problem.” Xiao Yu’s voice was low and cold. “The police have only found four cases so far. But what if there are more victims like Yu Anan? What if they just never reported it?”

    He Li’s face went pale.

    “That’s impossible,” she gasped.

    Was it impossible?

Xiao Yu’s expression darkened. A chilling thought crept into his mind.

This case might be far bigger than they ever imagined.
