Chapter 346: Can you still run this time?
by tinytreeXiao Yu was struggling while running with a group of people following behind him.
He couldn’t use the Leopard’s Speed skill. He could only push himself slightly beyond normal human running speed. If he went full throttle, things would get… complicated.
At the same time, he activated Kodiak Bear’s Power skill. Without it, his stamina wouldn’t hold up.
He wasn’t some professional long-distance runner, he was a normal person. And an ordinary person would burn out after a short sprint.
Even so, Xiao Yu stayed in the lead, leaving the crowd far behind within three minutes.
Suddenly, through his Falcon’s Eyes, he spotted a figure sprinting 300 meters ahead.
The suspect… Wu Hanran?!
Xiao Yu’s pace surged.
No time to hold back now!
250 meters. 200 meters. 150 meters.
The gap between them kept closing.
100 meters. 80 meters…
Suddenly, the suspect veered onto a mountain trail.
Right then, a racing motorcycle roared into view. Wu Hanran lashed out with a kick. The biker was sent flying off the motorcycle.
The motorcycle skidded across the ground, sparks spraying from the asphalt.
Wu Hanran rushed over, grabbed the bike, swung a leg over, and twisted the throttle.
The motorcycle shot off like a bullet.
Thirty meters away, Xiao Yu came to a halt, drenched in sweat, his eyes cold as he watched the fleeing motorcycle vanish into the distance.
He flared his nostrils, catching and memorizing the suspect’s scent with his Monarch Butterfly’s Nose.
He knew his limits.
Even with Leopard’s Speed activated, there was no way he could outrun a racing motorcycle at full throttle. Even if he could, he’d burn out before catching up. His stamina wouldn’t last.
To make matters worse, the only helicopter available had gone off to chase the SUV.
‘A diversion.’ Xiao Yu’s face darkened.
He’d been played.
That SUV was probably bait—deliberately revealing itself to draw their attention and lure the helicopter away, giving Wu Hanran time to escape.
So, Wu Hanran had an accomplice?
Who could it be?
That suspected foreign agent… Qi Huan?
Just then, Zhou Lie and the others finally caught up to Xiao Yu. Hundreds of meters of flat-out sprinting—not a jog—had left them bent over, gasping for air.
“He got away?” Zhou Lie panted.
“Yeah.” Xiao Yu’s face was grim as he nodded.
Since Wu Hanran was a special agent, he’d know exactly how the National Security Bureau operated.
Even if they recalled the helicopter now, it would be pointless. By the time they caught up, Wu Hanran would likely have already ditched the bike and hidden somewhere out of the helicopter’s line of sight.
Evasion tactics like these were standard procedure for special agents.
That’s why insiders—moles—were the hardest to catch. They knew every trick in the book.
“The helicopter lost him too.” Shen Mei lowered the satellite phone, her expression sour. “He abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.”
Xiao Yu’s expression turned even colder.
Wu Hanran wasn’t an ordinary person. Even if they locked down the entire city, it wouldn’t matter. If he wanted out, he had countless ways to slip through. Capturing him would be a nightmare.
S City.
The entire city’s Skyeye surveillance system was tracking, while armed police and local officers sealed off every major exit and entry point. But no one knew whether Wu Hanran was still hiding somewhere within the city. Or where he might be.
A citywide wanted notice and bounty had been issued, with the entire police force deployed to search every street and alley.
One hour later—
“We have a lead. A suspicious individual was spotted.”
Shen Mei lowered her phone and informed Xiao Yu and Zhou Lie.
With police cars leading the way, a convoy sped toward a commercial building in a business district.
Upon arrival, they saw two police officers and a security guard standing outside the building.
Xiao Yu’s eyes swept over the structure. It was a common type of mixed-use building: commercial offices on the lower floors and residential apartments above.
“Half an hour ago, the security guard saw someone matching Wu Hanran’s description enter this building,” a police officer reported crisply.
There was no time for chatter. The team rushed into the building’s lobby, where two elevators awaited. Zhou Lie and Shen Mei split their teams, each taking an elevator to search floor by floor.
Meanwhile, Xiao Yu remained cautious as he led two special agents into the building’s secure stairwell, ascending floor by floor.
All three entrances and exits were sealed off, with special agents and police officers guarding the perimeter outside the building.
If Wu Hanran was inside, where could he run?
Step by step, Xiao Yu reached the third floor and approached the landing. Just as he was about to climb to the fourth floor—
Suddenly, a flash of light reflected through the window, sweeping across Xiao Yu’s body…
Hm?
Xiao Yu halted, his gaze snapping toward the window.
There were windows on the ramps of the stairwells in the building. First, it was for daylight illumination; second, for ventilation; and third, for emergency evacuation.
Just when Xiao Yu stopped, another beam of light flashed in and disappeared quickly.
‘It’s the second time.’
Xiao Yu narrowed his eyes, something was wrong. He looked through the window at the two buildings opposite.
Based on the brightness of the light just now, the distance should be no more than 100 meters.
‘Is it that building 80 meters away?’
The light coming from the opposite building had a slanted trajectory. The light spot matched the characteristics of a circular lens—possibly a camera or a telescope.
‘Is someone using filming equipment or binoculars to watch this place?’
Judging by the angle, Xiao Yu blinked—what floor could it be?
‘What are you filming? Or rather, what are you watching?’
The next moment, another flash of light streaked past the window.
Xiao Yu’s gaze instantly locked onto the opposite building. It came from the 12th floor, Building B.
Once or twice could be a coincidence, but checking a third time…
A cold, sharp expression appeared on Xiao Yu’s face.
‘Are you observing us, or rather monitoring us?’
Who would dare monitor the police and special agents?
“Go!” Xiao Yu sprinted downstairs.
The two night-duty officers, confused, quickly followed.
Bursting out of the office building, Xiao Yu dashed toward the high-rise building over eighty meters away.
Falcon’s Eyes. Activated.
His eyes stayed locked on the stairwell of Building B, 12th floor. There, he saw a man holding binoculars. Xiao Yu also saw the man lower a monocular telescope and turn to leave.
‘Do you think you can still escape this time?’
