Chapter 38: Sister, Let Me Pursue You
by tinytree“Sister, I’m so happy!”
In the bedroom, drenched in the scent of alcohol, Xiao Yu enveloped Mu Qingwu in his embrace. “I’ve officially become a police officer and even earned commendations.”
Mu Qingwu, her face a blend of bashfulness and irritation yet flushed with warmth, considered pushing Xiao Yu’s hands away but hesitated.
Gazing at Xiao Yu, who was blissfully intoxicated, giggling foolishly in her arms, her exquisite almond-shaped eyes misted over. Under the bedroom’s light, they sparkled brilliantly.
“Sister, you’re so beautiful,” Xiao Yu chuckled foolishly. “The first time I saw you, I thought, if you don’t rush over to kiss her until she cries, are you even a man?”
“Ha!”
Mu Qingwu’s laughter bloomed like a radiant flower, her captivating eyes still shimmering with a watery sheen.
“But you’re too overbearing and cold, which isn’t endearing,” Xiao Yu grumbled. Snuggling against Mu Qingwu like a piglet seeking comfort, he mumbled, “Back then, you looked like a resentful wife who couldn’t keep her husband from visiting prostitutes.”
“You…” Mu Qingwu’s annoyance flickered across her face, her visage cooling slightly.
“However…” Xiao Yu lifted his head.
“What?” Mu Qingwu arched her eyebrows curiously.
“I feel so comfortable when I’m with you.” Xiao Yu, his gaze foggy, chuckled sheepishly, “I like you, sister.”
A blush spread across Mu Qingwu’s cheeks. Was this a confession? No, he was drunk.
Sure enough, Xiao Yu’s eyes shut, and he drifted off to sleep.
Mu Qingwu gazed at him, lost in thought.
Was it destiny? Or was it luck that brought them together?

In the night, Xiao Yu jolted awake from a dream.
Hearing the steady breathing beside him, feeling the silky smooth body pressed against his, he mustered all his willpower to steer his thoughts away from the hue of banana peels.
Fragments of foggy memories floated to the surface of his mind.
‘Mu Qingwu brought me home?’
‘I confessed my liking for her?’
Xiao Yu’s face flushed with an inexplicable embarrassment.
Am I really that shameless?’
‘I should really cut back on drinking, it’s far too easy to land in trouble. Otherwise… the end will be sprinkled with flowers.’
“I’m off to freshen up.”
Xiao Yu was aware that the beauty beside him was pretending to be asleep, especially with the overwhelming scent of alcohol emanating from him, which even he found unbearable.
“Okay,” came Mu Qingwu’s response.
He rose to rinse off in the bathroom. Upon returning, Xiao Yu found himself at a crossroads.
To leave, or not to leave?
In matters between men and women, both parties are usually aware if there’s a potential for complications. Even the most oblivious eventually catch on.
Xiao Yu, certainly no fool, approached the bed.
‘Is 28 truly that old?’
‘Do I genuinely have no affection?’
As he lay down, Xiao Yu extended his arm to draw Mu Qingwu into his embrace. He could sense her body shiver slightly, tensing up in his hold.
“Let’s sleep,” Xiao Yu said, a smile in his voice.
Mu Qingwu exhaled a sigh of relief and nestled her face into his chest.
With no space between them, their closeness felt utterly natural.
Together, they drifted off into a deep slumber.
In the early dawn, the waning moon resembled a dulled pebble, tossed aside at the edge of the sky. As the first beams of sunlight pierced through the mist and lit up the room, Xiao Yu awakened.
It seemed their hearts were in sync. As he glanced down into his arms, Mu Qingwu was just opening her eyes.
“Good morning,” Xiao Yu greeted, his smile as warm as the morning sun.
“Good morning,” Mu Qingwu responded, her eyes still clouded with sleep, exuding an exceptional allure and softness. The morning light cast upon her face highlighted her flawless, jade-like beauty.
Yet, Xiao Yu noticed, the icy demeanor had returned to her. Compared to those domineering female CEOs, he much preferred a sister who knew how to be coquettish and cute.
“I’ll go make breakfast,” Xiao Yu said, getting out of bed.
Watching his figure disappear into the bathroom, Mu Qingwu’s usual coolness melted away, her cheeks flushing with warmth.

After preparing breakfast, Xiao Yu acted like a proper person for once and waited for Mu Qingwu to join him for the meal.
Observing her formal attire, he couldn’t help but admire her. A white blouse paired with a utility skirt, her hair neatly arranged, all accentuating her perfect figure.
Xiao Yu believed her current attire was far more enticing than any schoolgirl, nurse, or flight attendant outfit. It was simply in a different league.
“Sister, how about I pursue you?” Xiao Yu said, amidst sips of porridge.
Mu Qingwu nearly choked on her porridge, giving him a look that screamed, ‘Are you an idiot?’
Having blurted that out, Xiao Yu almost wished he could smack himself. Was he being ridiculous? Had he forgotten they were already legally married? Chasing what exactly when they were already husband and wife.
“Alright,” Mu Qingwu said, barely concealing her amusement, nodding in agreement.
“Forget I said anything.” Xiao Yu, feeling sheepish, returned to his breakfast quietly.
“I’m serious,” Mu Qingwu spoke softly, “When you’ve succeeded in pursuing me, we’ll have our wedding.”
“And if I can’t?” Xiao Yu felt a mix of bewilderment and burgeoning excitement.
“If you can’t…” Mu Qingwu’s lips curled into a teasing smile, “What do you think?”
Xiao Yu was suddenly struck by a thought.
His mundane career in investigations just got a lot more interesting.
