Chapter 382: Pretending to Be a Devoted Lover? My Ass!
by tinytreeThe police car roared down the road, speeding like a wild beast.
Up ahead, a van entered Xiao Yu’s line of sight.
With three experienced detectives securing the scene, he didn’t need backup. One person was enough to catch the suspect.
As for wild wolves?
If there was still one left, it might as well be delivered on a silver platter.
The two vehicles rapidly closed the distance, closer and closer. Until they were side by side.
Xiao Yu turned to look at the driver.
It was a bald, middle-aged man with a fierce expression. Their eyes met for a brief second before the man suddenly yanked the steering wheel.
The van swerved sideways, ramming straight into the police car.
Xiao Yu was an easygoing guy. He never held grudges over small things.
So, he yanked his own steering wheel in return.
The two vehicles collided violently, metal scraping against metal as they clashed like beasts fighting for dominance.
‘You wanna play? Fine! Let’s go all the way.’
Xiao Yu might be easygoing, but that didn’t mean he let things slide. Because whenever he had a grudge, he settled it on the spot—with his fists.
After the impact, both vehicles wobbled and veered apart.
But Xiao Yu, with his Driver Expert ability, had absolute control over his car. The instant he regained balance, he jerked the wheel again. Like a raging bull, the police car charged at the van’s rear.
This time, Xiao Yu struck with precise technique, hitting the van’s tail at just the right angle.
The vehicle spun out of control, skidding sideways.
Momentum took over, and the van tipped. It flipped. Then it crashed onto its side.
Sparks burst into the night, a fiery trail streaking across the road as the vehicle slid to a stop.
The police car braked hard with a Screech.
Xiao Yu stepped out, his eyes cold as he walked toward the wrecked van. He locked eyes with the bloodied man inside through the shattered windshield.
It was Fang Hongding.
No mistake.
Bending down, Xiao Yu reached in. The burly bald man was yanked from the driver’s seat like a helpless chicken and thrown onto the pavement.
“Heh… heh…”
Despite his injuries, Fang Hongding lay on the ground, grinning menacingly at Xiao Yu.
The guy was impressive.
He could still laugh in this condition. Too bad Xiao Yu had seen his kind before.
Scumbags who liked to provoke others, hoping to drag them into their twisted rhythm. It was like dealing with internet trolls. If you engaged with their nonsense, you lost.
The best move was to ignore them.
Better yet, treat them like a pile of crap. Maybe even spit on them for good measure.
Sure enough, Fang Hongding’s grin gradually faded. His eyes turned vicious.
“You need some eye drops?” Xiao Yu asked casually. “Might help you keep that glare going a little longer without feeling uncomfortable.”
Fang Hongding, “…”
This cop was definitely mocking him. For a moment, Fang Hongding didn’t even know if he should feel angry or humiliated.
“Keeping silent won’t help you,” Xiao Yu sneered. “If I found your hideout, I can find your people. I can dig up every last crime you’ve committed.”
Fang Hongding’s expression twisted. He stared at Xiao Yu with bloodshot eyes and growled, “Was I wrong?! I was avenging my woman, was that wrong?!”
Xiao Yu paused.
Then, with a calm shake of his head, he replied, “No. But your method was wrong. You could’ve gone to the police. They wouldn’t have escaped justice.”
“Oh really?” Fang Hongding laughed mockingly. “Would they all be sentenced to death?”
Xiao Yu didn’t answer.
The police arrest, investigate, and prosecute, but they don’t decide who lives and who dies. Take Gan Yuzhen, for example—one of the Brotherhood members. She was the one who lured Jiang Huiting to that gathering years ago.
But she wasn’t a man. She hadn’t participated in the assault. She didn’t personally beat the victim or deliver the killing blow.
So, at most, she would get a life sentence, not the death penalty.
Did she deserve to die?
Maybe.
If she hadn’t lured Jiang Huiting there, none of it would have happened.
But legally speaking, her guilt was limited. She thought she was just inviting a friend to a party. She didn’t expect the drunken men to lose control, leading to rape and murder.
Under the law, her crime wasn’t punishable by death.
Fang Hongding laughed maniacally. “What, no response? In my eyes, they all deserved to die!”
“By that logic, should we police officers die too?” Xiao Yu’s gaze turned sharp. “Are you just randomly killing people now? Is revenge your excuse for slaughtering the innocent?”
Fang Hongding fell silent. He didn’t dare meet Xiao Yu’s eyes.
“Don’t act like some righteous warrior,” Xiao Yu scoffed. “You’re in your forties, so why only now do you seek revenge?”
Fang Hongding remained silent.
Xiao Yu smirked. “Let me guess. You never planned to avenge Jiang Huiting originally. But then, a few years ago, you met her sister, Jiang Huiying, at her zoo, didn’t you?”
Fang Hongding’s expression suddenly changed, but he still said nothing.
“And then, you told Jiang Huiying everything, right?” Xiao Yu sneered. “After that, a mysterious deposit appeared in your bank account, several hundred thousand yuan.”
“You expect me to believe that Jiang Huiying just gave you that money for no reason?” Xiao Yu narrowed his eyes. “What did you promise her in return? That you’d help her take revenge? Did you tell her you had a way to kill them without getting caught? Did you mention using wolves? Was that money meant to buy the wolves?”
Fang Hongding’s face drained of color. His eyes widened in disbelief, staring at Xiao Yu as if he were a monster.
“Did I guess right?” Xiao Yu chuckled, shaking his head.
“Too bad. Wolves aren’t easy to control, are they? So you had to get your brother’s help, and it took you three years to obtain four wolf cubs from another region. Jiang Huiying personally visited your brother’s farm, didn’t she? But you took two wolves first, right? You must’ve done something with them, though I’m not sure what. But in the end, all four wolves survived and were raised to adulthood.
“Then, another few hundred thousand yuan appeared in your account. That money was for training the wolves, wasn’t it? And for the drug. You trained the wolves using drug-laced dummies, while also forcing the Brotherhood members to get exposed to the toxin. In the end, all five of them smelled like the poison, and that’s how the wolves knew who to kill.”
Fang Hongding’s expression completely collapsed. He stared at Xiao Yu like he was staring at a demon who had peeled away all his secrets.
His entire scheme—everything he had done over the past decade—lay bare.
“If you had gone after the Brotherhood alone, twenty years ago, I might’ve respected you as a real man,” Xiao Yu said coldly. “But now? You stand here, acting like some devoted lover? What a joke.”
