Chapter 44: What Kind of Terrible Luck Is This?
by tinytreeWang Delong was fleeing for his life, internally cursing his luck, ‘Damn it, how did I end up running into the police? It’s all that damn bastard’s fault. He should really be beaten to death.’
As he ran, Wang Delong dashed into a shopping mall and headed straight for the underground parking lot. He wasn’t stupid. He knew the city was blanketed with surveillance cameras. To evade the police, he’d need to find a surveillance blind spot and make his escape.
However, just as Wang Delong entered the parking lot, intending to steal or hijack a car to make his getaway, he was confronted by a young man approaching him.
Instantly, Wang Delong felt a chill, disbelief written all over his face.
How did he find me? He had been vigilant about being followed during his escape and was certain he hadn’t been.
This illogical situation rooted him to the spot.
Nose of the King Butterfly… deactivated!
With an icy demeanor, Xiao Yu walked toward Wang Delong with determined steps.
“Shit!”
Instead of running, Wang Delong cursed under his breath and, with a menacing grin, started moving toward Xiao Yu.
Having trained in kickboxing for several years and being a fitness enthusiast, he wasn’t intimidated by a mere policeman. In fights, not even groups of two or three could breach his defense. The police officer who initially pursued him served as a prime example.
Instead of running, it seemed more strategic to knock unconscious this officer to facilitate an easier escape.
As they drew closer, suddenly, Wang Delong swung his leg up, aiming a kick at Xiao Yu’s abdomen.
A glint of cold determination flashed in Xiao Yu’s eyes as he deftly sidestepped and reached out. His hands clasped around Wang Delong’s ankle, pulling with both arms.
The towering Wang Delong was hoisted into the air in an instant.
Crash!
His body slammed against a car in the parking lot.
Why?
Lying back on the car’s hood, Wang Delong was bewildered. Despite Xiao Yu’s height, he didn’t seem particularly muscular, just another good-looking guy. How could he withstand his attack, let alone…
Before he could fully grasp the situation, a figure loomed above him.
As Xiao Yu’s form shifted fluidly in the air, his legs bent, preparing to bring his knees crashing down on Wang Delong.
Snapping back to reality, Wang Delong’s face twisted in horror. As someone skilled in kickboxing, he understood all too well the lethal potential of the human knee. Knee strikes, particularly those from Muay Thai involving powerful thrusts, could be fatal when executed by professional fighters with full force.
Is he trying to kill me?!
This thought sent a wave of panic through Wang Delong, his complexion blanching.
Regrettably, Xiao Yu offered no opportunity to dodge.
Just as his knees were poised to strike Wang Delong’s torso, he realized he might have been overly aggressive due to Guo Qiang’s injury. Mid-air, Xiao Yu abruptly adjusted, parting his knees.
His knees landed squarely on Wang Delong’s shoulders instead.
Crack!
“Aaah…”
A scream erupted from Wang Delong as his arms hung limply by his sides, resembling noodles. It was unclear whether they were broken or dislocated.
A final punch landed on Wang Delong’s chin, abruptly silencing his screams as he fell unconscious.
“Phew!”
Standing up, Xiao Yu exhaled deeply, coming to grips with the terrifying aspect of becoming powerful. Not him, specifically, but the system empowering him.
It was truly frightening.

About ten minutes after Xiao Yu’s call, the brigade’s personnel arrived on the scene.
By the time everyone reached the hospital, it was noon.
Why the hospital?
Guo Qiang was injured, thankfully not seriously.
The victims who had been knocked out woke up. Among the eight muscular men, three suffered severe injuries–one with a fractured throat bone, another with serious lower body trauma, and a third with both arms broken. Of the remaining five, two had minor concussions, while the rest were relatively unharmed.
Though they were physically okay, the Criminal Investigation Brigade’s personnel were anything but composed. Their gazes towards Xiao Yu were filled with a mix of awe and fear, as if they were beholding a monster, a wild beast.
One person taking down eight ordinary individuals might seem feasible. But to incapacitate eight muscular behemoths?
Are you sure this wasn’t some kind of joke?
The most astonishing part was that he managed to take everyone down without sustaining a single injury.
Was that even scientific?
Tell us, what kind of creature have you turned into?
Such a formidable fighter. The onlookers were wide-eyed, struck by a profound shock. Soon after, their breathing quickened, a sign of their heightened astonishment.
From interrogating the muscular men, the Criminal Investigation Team received some stirring news.
As Xiao Yu had speculated, Wang Delong was indeed wanted for a case. Otherwise, those muscle-bound men wouldn’t have attempted to detain the police and even assaulted an officer just to facilitate his escape.
Wang Delong, a 31-year-old male from L City, was a fugitive on the run. Under the alias Wang Xiaojun, he was hiding out in this city.
And the crime? Drug trafficking!
Had it not been for the day’s victim, a drug user, having a withdrawal episode and seeking him out at the fitness club only to be assaulted, the police might never have discovered Wang Delong’s presence in the fitness establishment.
But why would Wang Delong beat up a ‘customer’?
The situation was bizarre, to say the least.
The victim, desperate and drug-addicted without money, ended up at a gym. This place served as a drug distribution point, frequented by addicts looking to score.
Expecting drugs without money? Is that not delusional?
Hence the peculiar nature of this victim, who actually threatened the drug dealers, saying, “If you don’t give me the drugs, do you believe I’ll call the police?”
How could that go unchallenged?
The victim was chased and beaten from the gym to the outside.
By sheer coincidence, Guo Qiang, who was driving by, spotted the commotion.
The Criminal Investigation Team’s excitement stemmed from the fact that when it came to drugs, there were no minor cases. Moreover, capturing a fugitive was an achievement in itself.
What kind of absurd luck was this?
Standing in the hospital corridor, Xiao Yu felt bewildered. To think, stepping out to investigate a minor case could lead to apprehending a fugitive?
Was it mere coincidence? Or something more?
Unexpected windfalls always make people feel uneasy.
