    Chapter Index

The Doctor stared at the scene in front of him, sucking in a sharp breath. This kid who’d suddenly shown up had terrifying strength.

Off to the side, Slayer Demon clenched his fists. His body trembled slightly—not from fear, but from excitement.

“Interesting! So this is what an X-rank hero’s strength looks like, huh? Heh… haha… Now I get why the Doctor ended up like this and why he was so cautious around X-rank heroes at first. It’s incredible… really, incredibly strong.”

Barely ten minutes had passed, and that included a few quick exchanges of banter. In that short time, their entire force of aberrations had been wiped out, and the few high-ranking fighters they had left were dead on the ground.

Shi Ji’s sudden appearance had completely ruined the Doctor’s plans. Launching an all-out assault on Yinshuang City was now impossible.

Both the Doctor and Slayer Demon understood this. With their plans failing, there was only one thing left to do: kill this X-rank hero standing before them.

“Hold on, do you have hearing issues or what? I already told you, I’m not a hero, let alone an X-rank hero. If I really were an X-rank hero, you think I’d still be stuck looking this broke? Give me a break.”

Shi Ji suddenly found himself annoyed, rambling about his financial woes out of nowhere.

Slayer Demon just grinned. He watched Shi Ji with a thrill that only seemed to grow. He was more excited now than ever.

    “X-rank hero, what’s your name?”

“You’ve got a screw loose, huh? I already told you I’m not a hero. And what difference does it make if I tell you my name or not?”

Slayer Demon let out a short laugh. “You’re strong. Probably the strongest human I’ve ever met.”

Shi Ji paused, then pointed at the Doctor.

“That guy over there’s pretty tough too, huh? I mean, he attacked me out of nowhere without even a reason.”

The Doctor stepped forward. “A human? I used to be one, but now, I’m far from it.”

As he spoke, he grabbed his shirt with his right hand. With a quick tear, he exposed his entire upper body.

Shi Ji now saw that this guy wasn’t just missing part of his head and covered in scars—his entire torso was crisscrossed with cuts and gashes. His left chest, in particular, bore a deep, dark bruise, likely from a powerful blow he’d taken before.

    He tapped his left chest.

“See this? It’s the proof of when I left my humanity behind. To be honest, your little arrival here has completely wrecked our plans. But it doesn’t matter. Now that we’re here, you’re as good as dead. I might as well share a few things with you before that.

“Two years ago, I disappeared suddenly. Back then, I was known as Dr. Kukki, and my research was cutting-edge. I even enhanced my own body to gain incredible strength. But one experiment went wrong, and my powers went haywire. A few thousand people died in the chaos, and then they decided I had to be eliminated. Sure, maybe I lost control then, but if I’d managed to master that power, nobody would have been able to stop me.

“I’ve already died once. But I had a backup plan. I’d made some connections, like with Slayer Demon here. After I ‘died,’ he tracked down the best doctors and had them give me a Devil-rank aberration heart. With it, I regained full control over my power. Now… I’m stronger than you could ever imagine.”

Shi Ji, looking completely bored, let him finish talking before responding with a quick, casual, “So what?”

He’d barely listened. He was uninterested in Dr. Kukki’s tale of power. The guy had been talking up a storm, but Shi Ji’s blank expression said it all.

“So you have to die. You’re the biggest obstacle to our plans. Sure, the aberration army and the remaining leaders are gone now, but so what? Things might get a bit more complicated, but nothing can stop my desire for revenge against humanity. As long as the three of us are here, the world will be ours. I’ve been careful, always alert. But clearly, holding back is only hurting our plans.”

He clenched his fists. “From now on, I won’t hold back like before. Brace yourself, kid.”

    Shi Ji rolled his eyes.

Why did every villain have to go on and on with some speech before a fight?

He rubbed his ear, still looking as impatient as ever. “You say you’re done holding back, but with just the two of you left, I’m not sure you even have the option. But hey, before we get started, I have a question.”

    Dr. Kukki scoffed.

“Talking tough, are you? You’re up against two Devil-rank powerhouses now. Think this fight will go as smoothly as before? Fine, I’ll humor you. What’s your question?”

    Shi Ji didn’t hesitate.

    “So… who’s Dr. Kukki, anyway?”

Dr. Kukki and Slayer Demon froze, taken aback.

Kukki’s face turned dark. This kid didn’t even recognize him? Even if they hadn’t met, he should’ve at least heard the name. He was supposed to be one of the world’s most brilliant scientists, and yet this guy had no clue. But looking at Shi Ji’s genuinely curious expression, it was clear he wasn’t lying.

“You’re way too cocky, kid!” Dr. Kukki yelled at Shi Ji.

At the same time, Slayer Demon clenched his fists and charged straight at Shi Ji.

“Doctor, let me teach this brat a lesson.”

But before he could finish speaking—

    Boom!!!

A red blur flew backward, slamming hard into the wall with a thunderous crash, leaving a deep crater behind. The entire underground plaza shook again from the impact.

Dr. Kukki’s expression turned complicated as he tried to process what had just happened.

    “Wh-what… just happened?”

He looked over to see Shi Ji, still with his fist extended from the punch. He didn’t even bothered to pull it back.

    Dr. Kukki was speechless.

Shi Ji slowly withdrew his fist, straightened up, and glanced around.

“Wow, I didn’t expect a place like this down here. Quite the eye-opener. I’m guessing this is the spot where the Star Alliance detected that weird energy coming from, huh? I mean, sure, I stumbled in by accident, but since I’m already here, I might as well clean up. I don’t know what your deal is, but from the looks of it, you’re bad news. I finally found a place where I can just laze around, and you’re trying to mess that up? You’re all going down.”
