Chapter 22: Visitor

The so-called practical task was actually a week-long assignment given to all students at Yinshuang Academy at the beginning of each term. During this week, students could go out into the community to help people with various tasks.

Yinshuang Academy believed that its students would become heroes in the future. A hero’s duty was to protect, and people were the primary group they would serve. Such practical tasks helped bridge the gap between students and the community, allowing students to better understand the people they would protect, thus laying a strong foundation for their future as heroes.

Shi Ji agreed with this approach. However, he believed that even when helping people, one must consider who they were helping. This was one of his core principles.

After skimming through the information, Shi Ji found the rules and regulations overwhelming and tedious, so he stopped reading. The amount of information was even more extensive and complex than that at the Star Hero Academy.

That night, he didn’t sleep well. Since the students were out on practical tasks, the academy had given the dining and other service staff time off. As a result, the cafeteria and stores were closed.

Shi Ji had no chance to eat dinner and went to bed hungry.

His stomach growled, keeping him awake for a long time. He didn’t remember exactly when he finally fell asleep.

“Hey, brat, get up! If you don’t get up now, don’t blame me for being rude.”

In his groggy state, Shi Ji heard this voice.

Still very sleepy, he didn’t pay much attention, simply turning over to scratch his buttocks before falling silent again.

Shi Ji wasn’t alone in his single room. Besides him, a short girl in formal attire stood by the bed.

It was 7:30 AM, and according to the plan, Jing Xin was supposed to take Shi Ji to Lin Xinyan.

Given Shi Ji’s nonchalant attitude, Jing Xin knew he would sleep in.

She glared at the person in bed, her disgust deepening as she remembered his rudeness. Her pout grew more pronounced.

Seeing a cup on the table with some water in it, she walked over, picked it up, and poured the water on Shi Ji’s face.

The half cup of water hit its target, but Shi Ji, still asleep, merely licked the water off his lips.

Jing Xin’s face darkened, feeling that Shi Ji was deliberately opposing her. She wanted to kick him awake.

As she seethed, he suddenly spoke, “Little girl, it’s not right to barge into someone’s room. And pouring water on me without permission, what’s the meaning of this?”

Hearing this, Jing Xin saw Shi Ji open his eyes and slowly get up.

Again, she heard the annoying “little girl” words. Furious, she threw the cup at Shi Ji.

“You scoundrel! Call me Instructor Jing Xin! Got it?”

Shi Ji casually caught the cup, smiling nonchalantly. “Got it, got it. Little brat.”

Jing Xin clenched her teeth in anger. She realized it was too early to deal with Shi Ji now. She decided to wait until the practical tasks were completed.

Suppressing her anger, Jing Xin calmed herself.

“You read the academy’s notice, right? The first week of the term is for practical tasks, helping the community. Since you’re new and don’t know much, I found someone to guide you. Get ready and come with me.”

“No time. Not going.” 

Shi Ji’s response was blunt and straightforward.

His directness was infuriating. Jing Xin’s momentarily subdued anger flared up again, even more intensely.

Glaring at Shi Ji, her face livid, she said, “Don’t test my patience. Whether you go or not is your choice, but you’ll face the consequences. The academy is empty now, so you can stay here and starve if you want.”

“I’ll go!”
