Chapter 29: No worries about food and shelter
by tinytreeTwo days later, at the same char siu bun shop where Lin Xinyan had previously taken Shi Ji.
In the morning, the bun shop was as busy as usual.
Many regular customers knew every employee in the shop, and two days ago, a new young man had joined the staff. He was tall, handsome, and quite personable.
This new person was none other than Shi Ji.
Shi Ji had clearly expressed his disinterest in the practical tasks but, since he was living under someone else’s roof, he had to make some effort. Recalling what Lin Xinyan had said earlier, he realized that no matter what he did during this week, he had to help at least one person as a minimum requirement.
Shi Ji didn’t have high expectations for himself, so that morning, after Lin Xinyan left, he approached the bun shop owner and asked to stay and help.
The bun shop was doing well, and there was no need for extra staff. If there had been a need, the owner would have hired someone long ago. Initially, the owner refused Shi Ji, but upon learning that he was from Yinshuang Academy and would only be there for a week, needing only food and shelter and no pay, and that he would leave with just a proof of service, the owner happily agreed. This deal was too good to pass up.
Thus, Shi Ji stayed. This way, he didn’t have to worry about food or shelter, and both his living expenses and the academy’s practical task requirements were met.
He truly was a clever, crafty guy.
Over the past two days, Shi Ji’s personal abilities quickly became evident. Despite his carefree appearance, he was very serious when it came to work.
The bun shop, of course, sold buns. When it came to selling buns, making them was a must. The owner initially planned to personally teach Shi Ji how to make buns, but to his surprise, Shi Ji already knew how and even had more variety and faster speed than the seasoned workers.
The owner was stunned. Initially thinking he had gotten a great deal, he now realized he had hit the jackpot.
In just half a day, Shi Ji had become close with the owner and other employees.
Not only was Shi Ji skilled, but he was also good at flattering people, making the owner very happy. When serving customers, he would also occasionally compliment them, and this enthusiasm was almost overwhelming for some customers.
The owner was overjoyed, thinking that the shop needed more employees like Shi Ji.
“Hey, Shi Ji, another basket of char siu buns here!”
Look at that, in such a short time, even the regular customers knew Shi Ji by name.
Shi Ji quickly responded, “Just a moment, brother, coming right up.”
His work efficiency was high, and soon he had delivered the char siu buns.
After serving this customer, Shi Ji turned to attend to others.
“Hey, bring a basket of char siu buns here,” a female customer’s voice called out.
“Got it! Just a moment.”
Shi Ji, without looking back, grabbed a basket of char siu buns and quickly delivered them. As he approached the female customer, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Haha! So it’s you.”
As he spoke, he turned back to greet the owner. The owner, seeing it was Lin Xinyan, didn’t say anything.
This female customer was Lin Xinyan.
Shi Ji hadn’t contacted her for two days, indicating that his tasks were going smoothly. So Lin Xinyan hadn’t worried about him.
Early this morning, she had come out to eat, and after helping the police capture a fugitive, she found herself near the bun shop. Thinking she was already out to eat, she decided to have some char siu buns. Upon arriving, she heard a familiar voice, and seeing a person in a white apron delivering char siu buns, she realized it was Shi Ji.
For a moment, Lin Xinyan felt a mix of emotions.
