Chapter 47: Aftermath
by tinytreeIn truth, Lin Xinyan was already mostly recovered and could have been discharged from the hospital. However, she was still feeling a bit weak, and the doctor suggested that she stay for a while longer to ensure there were no lingering issues. Understanding the importance of her health, Lin Xinyan gladly accepted the advice.
Since the incident, she had been resting in her private, high-end hospital room. It was a single-occupancy room, so when she had no visitors, she found herself quite bored.
Seated on a chair nearby, she picked up a recently delivered magazine. The cover featured major recent events in Yinshuang City, with the story of Tisila taking up the front page and detailed over the first dozen pages. It recounted the known details of the incident in depth.
She had heard enough about these events lately, with the news channels covering them non-stop.
Some less reputable media outlets had even sensationalized the story, claiming that the seven heroes had collectively defeated Tisila, which was far from the truth. Whenever she thought about these exaggerated reports, Lin Xinyan could only laugh at their absurdity.
Due to the Tisila incident, Lin Xinyan gained significant attention as one of the participating heroes. Coupled with the earlier Gesila event, her name had become well-known throughout Yinshuang City. It was hard to find anyone who hadn’t heard of her.
Both Gesila and Tisila were formidable anomalies, with Tisila being particularly close to reaching the Devil-level. Handling them had been incredibly challenging. As a result, Lin Xinyan, along with the other two B-level heroes, Alloy and Aunt Cai, earned enough points to qualify for promotion to A-level heroes.
Reflecting on how she had been promoted to B-level just under two weeks ago and now had the qualifications for A-level, Lin Xinyan didn’t know whether to feel happy or a bit ashamed. She had participated in the battles against Gesila and Tisila but felt she had only contributed marginally. The significant points awarded to her felt somewhat undeserved.
She couldn’t help but think of Shi Ji, who had single-handedly defeated Gesila. It was a pity that he didn’t want to become a hero.
She believed that Shi Ji’s strength far surpassed that of ordinary S-level heroes, and he could easily rank highly among them. Unfortunately, Shi Ji didn’t see the appeal in being a hero. To him, helping others was enough to be considered one.
As she stared at the magazine cover, lost in thought, she saw Tisila’s corpse depicted prominently.
Lin Xinyan had a bold idea. Perhaps Shi Ji had also been the one to kill Tisila.
However, she hesitated to believe it completely, as Tisila’s strength far exceeded Gesila’s, making it unlikely that Shi Ji could defeat such a powerful foe without significant difficulty.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, breaking her reverie.
“Come in!”
The door opened, and Shi Ji poked his head in, grinning at Lin Xinyan before fully entering the room.
Seeing him, Lin Xinyan set the magazine aside and smiled warmly as she stood up.
“I told you not to bring anything. You’re too polite.”
Every time Shi Ji visited, he always brought something with him, as if he felt uncomfortable coming empty-handed.
Shi Ji placed the char siu buns on a small table and scratched the back of his head. Bringing the same buns every time was starting to make him feel a bit embarrassed.
“I don’t have much to give, so it’s char siu buns again. I hope you don’t mind.”
If he had more money, Shi Ji wouldn’t be doing this.
Lin Xinyan quickly shook her head.
“No, no. I’m very happy that you came to see me. It’s so boring being here alone. Thank you for the char siu buns.”
Her gratitude was genuine, and Shi Ji could see that she appreciated his visits, even if it was just to bring her something as simple as buns.
