Chapter 52: What If You Get Hurt?
by tinytreeJust as Lin Xinyan had mentioned, she acted as a tour guide for Shi Ji while they walked, providing a detailed introduction to the Star Alliance.
When Lin Xinyan first joined the Star Alliance, it wasn’t in Yinshuang City. She registered in another city. Each branch of the Star Alliance functions similarly to the headquarters, with minimal differences in facilities.
After some inquiries, the two quickly found their destination.
The process of hero promotion varied by rank. For example, when first registering, after passing various physical tests, one still needed approval from a gatekeeper to officially become a hero.
Initially, the threshold was low, with many participants, and all tests were conducted in a large hall. Promotion to B-rank hero was stricter, with a hall reinforced with special materials to prevent excessive force from causing damage. Generally, the higher the promotion, the more sophisticated the testing location.
The promotion to A-rank hero was conducted in a building behind the main Star Alliance structure, a single-story building with thick steel walls.
They were informed that the gatekeeper was inside, and they could just go in.
As they reached the door, Lin Xinyan suddenly stopped.
“Shi Ji, I need to use the restroom. You go ahead and wait for me inside,” she said and then walked away.
Shi Ji thought for a moment before heading to the door.
The door was a thick, sliding type. Despite its weight, it opened easily with a bit of force.
As soon as the door opened, Shi Ji was about to step in but was met with a massive fist coming straight at him.
Surprised by this kind of welcome, Shi Ji wondered if this big guy was the gatekeeper.
“I’m not here to be tested. Why hit me?”
He raised his right hand and threw a punch in response.
Boom!
The fists collided, causing a shockwave. In an instant, the big guy was sent flying backward.
Shi Ji stepped inside and closed the door, looking around.
The hall was both simple and not simple. The walls were heavily reinforced, costing a fortune, but the hall itself was empty except for a single stool and the big guy.
The big guy, who had been knocked back by Shi Ji’s punch, landed smoothly after a few flips in the air.
Seeing Shi Ji looking around, he grunted, “Not bad, kid. Your strength is impressive, pushing me back like that.”
Shi Ji turned to the big guy, looking puzzled.
“Hey, uncle. Why did you attack? What if you got hurt?”
The big guy chuckled, “To become an A-rank hero, you must always be alert and prepared. This was just the initial test.”
Shi Ji felt the explanation was absurd and thought the big guy had misunderstood something.
Just as he was about to speak, the big guy charged again, fists swinging. His imposing presence and speed matched the standards of an A-rank gatekeeper.
It seemed the big guy had mistaken him for Lin Xinyan. But how could he confuse their names? Was he really that dense?
Seeing the big guy attacking, Shi Ji raised his fist to block.
“Hey, uncle, I’m not—”
“Take this, kid!”
And so, the hall echoed with the sounds of intense battle, the rumbling continuing without pause.
Lin Xinyan hadn’t expected the restroom to be inside the main Star Alliance building. With no restroom outside, she ended up taking more time than anticipated.
On her way back, she started jogging.
Beep!
Her wrist communicator suddenly activated.
Lin Xinyan glanced at it.
“Congratulations, B-rank hero Lin Xinyan, on successfully being promoted to A-rank hero. Please continue to strive in your heroic journey.”
