Chapter 55: A Pleasant Day

Shi Ji didn’t particularly enjoy shopping. On a typical day, he would wander aimlessly just to clear his mind. But today was different with Lin Xinyan by his side, and the experience felt noticeably different.

Being alone was dull, but with two people, especially when one of them was a stunning beauty like Lin Xinyan, things were undeniably more interesting.

Throughout the day, Shi Ji got to know a different side of Lin Xinyan. 

While she usually prioritized academy matters and the threat of anomalies, showing a determined and serious nature, today she revealed a more lively and carefree aspect of her personality. This made her even more endearing.

Trailing behind her, Shi Ji couldn’t help but think that perhaps this person…

He chuckled softly, hoping it was just his imagination.

“Shi Ji, from now on, we’ll be classmates. We should interact more often,” Lin Xinyan said.

Shi Ji nodded, “Yeah.”

They visited so many places that day that it was hard to keep track. Despite having only a few hundred yuan, Shi Ji spent it all without hesitation. Of course, it wasn’t just Shi Ji footing the bill, Lin Xinyan actually covered most of the expenses.

During their outing, Lin Xinyan brought up the topic of the medical expenses Shi Ji had covered. She wanted to repay him, but Shi Ji refused to accept the money. 

Instead, he joked,

“If you really want to repay me, why not just give yourself to me? Having an A-rank hero as a girlfriend would be pretty awesome, right?”

It was just a joke, and both of them knew it.

Lin Xinyan understood Shi Ji’s intentions. After spending these past days together, she had a good sense of his character. Since Shi Ji adamantly refused the money, there was nothing she could do about it. She knew she couldn’t out-argue him.

“Alright, since you insist. Let’s leave it at that.”

“Really? You agree to be my girlfriend?” Shi Ji seized the opportunity for another joke, fully aware of her true meaning.

Lin Xinyan pouted, “Who said I would?”

Even though it was a joke, Lin Xinyan felt that if Shi Ji ever needed help in the future, she would do her best to assist him.

For both of them, today was a joyous day. They had a great time together.

Shi Ji felt a bit unfamiliar with such feelings, realizing he hadn’t experienced this kind of happiness in a long time. But he enjoyed it, hoping there would be more days like this.

At 4 PM, they hailed a cab to head back to the academy.

Yinshuang Academy’s campus could only be approached by authorized vehicles. All other cars were stopped a few kilometers away, so they still had a bit of walking to do after getting out of the cab.

After they got off, they could see many other students around.

Starting tomorrow, the campus life at Yinshuang Academy would officially begin.

Lin Xinyan had become quite famous recently. She was well-known among the public and even more so among her fellow students. Because of this, many people around were watching her closely. Even someone as thick-skinned as Shi Ji felt a bit uneasy under their gazes.

Everyone was talking about Lin Xinyan, and he couldn’t help but get dragged into their conversations simply because of his close association with her. It seemed like a flimsy reason, but it was enough to make him feel awkward.

Enduring the pressure of being the center of attention, they finally arrived at the academy. Once inside, Lin Xinyan had other matters to attend to, so they parted ways.

As they said goodbye, Lin Xinyan smiled and said, “I had a great time today. Let’s go out again sometime.”

Shi Ji didn’t respond, just standing there in a daze.
