Chapter 7: The Lizard

After the Great Change, the appearance of anomalies became commonplace. Among these anomalies, the frequency of their occurrence decreased with each level.

Human-level anomalies were the most common, followed by Monster-level, and Nether-level anomalies were even rarer. Monster-level was a critical threshold. The probability of Nether-level anomalies appearing became very small and uncommon. As for the levels beyond that, they were even less frequent.

Having just been expelled from Star Hero Academy, Shi Ji was in a good mood.

Unexpectedly encountering a near-Spirit level anomaly on the road was surprising, but it didn’t dampen his spirits.

He sat with his arms crossed, watching the ongoing battle as if he were watching a show.

“That girl is quite capable, able to hold her own against a near-Spirit level anomaly. Of course, at least for now. Let’s see if she can handle it on her own. It would save me the trouble.”

Shi Ji’s remark was a recognition of the silver-haired girl’s abilities. However, he knew it was unlikely she could actually defeat the anomaly alone.

The creature resembled a lizard in appearance, though it was unclear what it had originally been before the Great Change.

This lizard stood over twenty meters tall, its dark grey skin covered in thick scales. Each limb ended in razor-sharp claws, making it look extremely menacing.

As Shi Ji suspected, the hero sent to deal with the anomaly was indeed the silver-haired girl who had been sitting beside him earlier.

Her name was Lin Xinyan, a B-rank hero with the Star Constitution of the Chariot rank, wielding a weapon called the Divine Dance spear.

Anomalies posed the greatest threat to humanity, far more terrifying than terrorists. As a hero, it was her duty to protect the people and fight these anomalies.

When Lin Xinyan first engaged the lizard, she didn’t hesitate. She showed no mercy, launching a series of powerful attacks with her Divine Dance spear.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The loud clash of their battle resounded.

The advantage of the Chariot rank was speed and powerful strikes.

The lizard tried to counterattack but was slower, unable to keep up with Lin Xinyan’s movements. This created a scenario where her attacks seemed ineffective, yet the lizard couldn’t land a hit on her.

“What kind of monster is this? Its scales are so thick!” Lin Xinyan complained as her attacks failed to penetrate.

At that moment, she made a mistake. The anomaly seized the opportunity and swiped at her with its claws.

Lin Xinyan’s eyes widened as she blocked with her Divine Dance spear.

Clang!

She managed to deflect the blow but was forced back by the impact.

She retreated, not ending her assault. As she descended, she swiftly swung her spear twice, unleashing a blue cross-shaped shockwave.

The powerful shockwave whipped up a huge air current, surging towards the lizard.

Facing this attack, the lizard made no obvious move and took the hit head-on.

Boom!

The shockwave slammed into the anomaly.

Lin Xinyan’s expression was serious, her brows furrowed. She gritted her teeth, not relaxing for a second. She knew this attack wouldn’t affect the anomaly much.

As the shockwave hit the lizard, she prepared her next move. The Divine Dance spear glowed blue in her hands, an invisible vortex formed around it and grew more apparent. With a sudden leap, she demonstrated the Chariot rank’s power, charging at the massive creature.

In mere seconds, the vortex around the spear expanded. Lin Xinyan twisted her body, spinning like a whirlwind. Now, both she and her spear transformed into a tornado.

The wind emitted a blue light, and the immense power could be felt from afar.

Charging with all her might, she struck.

The lizard stood unmoved, intending to take Lin Xinyan’s attack head-on again.

The tornado crashed into the lizard’s chest scales with immense force.

Screech! Screech! Screech!

The sound of friction was continuous, showing no sign of stopping.
