    Chapter Index

Looking outside the carriage thoughtfully, she then ordered, “It’s okay, let’s stop here. I’ll simply kill all your companions right before your eyes to make you lose all hope.”

Upon hearing the command, the Wolf King halted, bringing the carriage to a gradual stop.

“Valkyrie Tianyan, you needn’t go to such lengths. I pledge to serve you faithfully. Please, please spare my friends’ lives.”

She gave a cold snort in response, “Do you believe you have the right to negotiate with me?”

“You are a person of reason. If you spare them, I promise to serve you diligently. However, if you choose to act against them, I would rather end my own life than help you.”

“Is this a threat?” Valkyrie Tianyan’s expression turned deadly. It was the first time someone had dared to openly defy her.

Gripping Draxel’s neck tightly, she seethed, “No one defies me. I, Valkyrie Tianyan, am as inevitable as fate itself. Do you dare oppose the will of the heavens?”

“You… what kind of heaven are you? Just like that…”

Even while being choked, Draxel remained defiant. For the sake of his comrades, for those who were like family to him, he wouldn’t retreat. Even the system seemed to cheer him on.

[Well done, Count! I’ll die with you if I have to.]

‘Die your own death. Think of something useful! Just dying together, are you out of your mind?’

At this critical juncture, suddenly, a crimson dragon flew across the sky, its body about as large as an eagle.

Gasping for air under her grip, Draxel managed a glimpse and through his blurred vision, he sensed it was Lein.

“Roar! Release him, you damn woman! Count, I’m here for you!”

Indeed, it was Lein. Swiftly arriving, it unleashed a roar and surprisingly spat out a torrent of flames, setting Valkyrie Tianyan’s carriage ablaze.

With the heat becoming unbearable and the flames scorching, Valkyrie Tianyan had no choice but to abandon her carriage and flee, inadvertently tossing Draxel aside in her haste.

Draxel, sprawling on the ground, gasped for air with desperation.

“Damn, how did you get so huge overnight!? Lein, did you use some kind of magic?”

“Roar. It was Safiya. She cried desperately as we retreated, and her tears fell on me in torrents. Somehow, that made me grow.”

“I see… Something similar happened before, didn’t it? Where is she now?”

“Roar. She’s trailing behind. The situation was dire, so I took the initiative to come here first. Also, Xiao Nan has gone to find Profit Empress Ronnie for help. I believe she will arrive before anyone else.”

Recalling Profit Empress Ronnie, another formidable figure with indiscernible attributes, Draxel felt a surge of confidence.

“Alright then! You damn woman, you dared to act so boldly against me, Draxel. Just you wait, reinforcements are on their way to deal with you.”

With the thought of an empowered Lein and Profit Empress Ronnie coming to his aid, Draxel felt bolstered, exuding an air of defiance.

Just then, Profit Empress Ronnie made her timely arrival, her mount a rare steed known for its exceptional speed, thus reaching them first.

Seeing her timely intervention, Profit Empress Ronnie quipped, “Look at you, Count~ Barely done repaying your debts, and here you are, calling on me for help again. Have you run out of options, or do you think I owe you one?”

“Ah… let’s save that question for later. We have a bigger problem at hand,” Draxel said, pointing toward Valkyrie Tianyan in the distance.

“Why have you managed to provoke another woman? Xiao Nan told me about her, she’s Valkyrie Tianyan, right? Perfect timing.”

“Perfect timing? What do you mean by that?” Draxel was confused.

“Yes, just the right moment,” Valkyrie Tianyan echoed similarly.

“Roar? Count, it looks like they know each other?”

“I’m not sure, how about we just watch for now?”

In no time, Lein and Draxel turned into spectators.

“Sister, today I must capture you and bring you before our father for judgment.”

“I’ve never acknowledged you as my sister. Besides, these wolves were raised by me.”

‘Damn! Valkyrie Tianyan is Profit Empress Ronnie’s sister! No wonder their attributes are off the charts, they’re family.’

Meanwhile, the Wolf King also howled, “Awoo… Damn, both are my masters. I better stay out of this… Taking sides would be a mistake.”

As the two women moved swiftly towards each other, neither showing signs of stopping, Profit Empress Ronnie didn’t draw her sword this time but instead pulled a dagger from her belt. Valkyrie Tianyan did the same, preparing to fight with her dagger.

Seeing this, Draxel felt a mix of amusement and bewilderment, his earlier grievance about being choked fading away. Since they were sisters, harming Valkyrie Tianyan would be unseemly, an outcome Draxel wished to avoid.

So, he turned to the equally baffled dragon beside him and suggested, “Alright, Lein, let’s just stay out of it and watch. Our job will be to make sure they don’t hurt each other, okay?”

“Roar. Sounds good to me. I wasn’t planning to intervene anyway. Even though I’ve gotten a bit bigger, I doubt I can take on either of them.”

“You claimed to be the strongest, but you can’t even take on a woman.”

“Roar. Well, let me grow a bit more. But those wolves over there look quite delicious. I’ve never tasted wolf meat before.”

“You silly dragon! Born with a glutton’s soul, huh? Didn’t you hear those wolves were raised by Ronnie too? You’re not to touch them.”

The distant wolf pack seemed to grasp something, casting nervous glances at the crimson dragon.

At this stage, young dragon Lein, taking on the King of the Steppe Wolves was just a matter of time. Though he might not have the size advantage, he could now sustain flight for periods, making it hard for the Wolf King to even scratch him.

If Lein managed to hit the Wolf King with his flames, it would likely settle the battle quickly. Yet, Lein was still young, not fully grown, and breathing fire would drain his strength significantly. Luckily, feasting on the Wolf King’s meat after victory could significantly restore his energy. So all things considered, Lein stood to gain.

The Wolf King grew increasingly wary. He recognized its disadvantage and knew the Count would likely step in to help the dragon if a fight broke out.

“Awoo. Kid, I didn’t bite you earlier, don’t turn gratitude into enmity.”

The Wolf King tried to communicate, bracing for conflict if negotiations failed.

But at this moment, Draxel’s concern wasn’t with the Wolf King. His eyes were on the two women before him, battling with the ferocity of deities of war. He wished no harm upon either, especially since Ronnie was an invaluable ally.
