Chapter 68: Demands
by tinytreeHowever, even though she knew the incident was a misunderstanding prompted by her own scream, Wan Caixuan still felt a deep sense of embarrassment and anger, despite having calmed down a little. Every time she thought about Lin Xiao’s gaze, a wave of intense irritation washed over her.
Her body had been completely seen by this little thief, Lin Xiao.
Regardless of how much Wan Caixuan understood that Lin Xiao was not at fault, she couldn’t help feeling wronged. Moreover, she was well aware of her own allure. Now that Lin Xiao had seen everything, would he…
Though, considering Lin Xiao’s usual demeanor, this possibility seemed slim. However, one could know a person’s face but not their heart, especially when they were alone together. And with Lin Xiao’s extraordinary martial abilities…
This thought sent a chill through Wan Caixuan’s heart. She instinctively cast a wary look at Lin Xiao. If he showed any inappropriate behavior, she was ready to turn and run at once.
However, as it turned out, Wan Caixuan was overthinking things.
Lin Xiao stopped and looked at her with clear, sincere eyes.
“I meant no harm. It was a misunderstanding. I heard your scream and thought something had happened to you. I should’ve been more restrained.”
Even though Lin Xiao hadn’t done anything out of line, women’s thoughts could be intricate. Even a logical and beautiful CEO, at her core, was still a woman.
Watching Lin Xiao’s serene gaze and hearing his calm tone, Wan Caixuan, for some reason, started to feel uncomfortable again. She inexplicably felt as if she had lost.
Had Lin Xiao really not reacted at all? And he didn’t harbor any ulterior motives? Was her allure that insignificant? How could such a thing be possible? Or was this guy not into women? Did he have a different sexual orientation?
Wan Caixuan looked at Lin Xiao with an odd expression. Despite the whirlwind of thoughts in her mind, she maintained a cold demeanor on her face.
“Enough. I understand the incident was a misunderstanding. But you absolutely mustn’t mention this to anyone, or I’ll kill you!”
Lin Xiao was oblivious to the flurry of thoughts that were going through the mind of the beautiful CEO and heaved a sigh of relief at Wan Caixuan’s words.
His greatest fear was Wan Caixuan losing her sense of reason and acting irrationally. The fact that Wan Caixuan could now communicate calmly was indeed a relief.
“Don’t worry, President, I will certainly remain tight-lipped.”
“You need to not only keep silent about this but also erase everything you saw from your memory. You’re not even allowed to think about it.”
“…” Lin Xiao wanted to forget, but he couldn’t.
When Wan Caixuan brought it up, the image resurfaced in Lin Xiao’s mind, altering his expression instantly.
Wan Caixuan was at her most sensitive at the moment. The moment Lin Xiao’s expression changed, she detected it immediately.
Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment and indignation as she rebuked, “Where are your eyes wandering? Are you entertaining disgusting thoughts again?”
Confronted by Wan Caixuan’s accusations, Lin Xiao wisely chose to remain silent. He knew that no words would be beneficial at this moment. His silence was his only response.
Wan Caixuan took several deep breaths. She was donned in thin sleepwear, her chest rising and falling with her breaths.
“To avoid a repeat of this situation, I want to lay down three rules,” she said.
“No problem.”
“Firstly, without my permission, you are not allowed to enter my room. Secondly, without my permission, you are not allowed to ascend to the second floor. Thirdly, without my permission, you are not allowed to tamper with anything in the room.”
Lin Xiao’s brows furrowed as he said, “I can adhere to the third rule, but not the first and second. I need to ensure your safety, so you must remain within my line of sight and reach until I deal with the assassin dispatched by the Dark Night.”
Wan Caixuan’s expression soured, her brows knitting together. “Is that really necessary?”
Lin Xiao shrugged. “If you are comfortable risking your own life, then I have no objections.”
Wan Caixuan bit her rosy lips, her white teeth gleaming under the light, her expression fluctuating.
“Just this once, and don’t take it as a precedent, you may enter my room, but don’t even think about sharing a bed with me.”
“Understood,” Lin Xiao responded immediately. “Besides, I have a few conditions of my own that I hope you can meet.”
He was truly pushing his luck. Wan Caixuan gritted her teeth and retorted irritably, “Spit it out.”
Unbeknownst to her, Wan Caixuan’s tone had gradually shifted from that of a CEO managing billion-dollar assets to that of an ordinary girl while conversing with Lin Xiao.
“First, as previously discussed, you must stay with me and not stray from my sight. Second, since we don’t know when the assassin will strike, you can’t wander around alone. Lastly, I’d like a salary boost. After all, even the emperor would not starve his soldiers.”
The last point was, of course, made in jest. Lin Xiao intended to lighten the somewhat awkward atmosphere between them.
After all, the woman before him was not only his employer, but they were also about to share a room. An overly tense atmosphere would do them no good.
“You’re asking for a raise? You should be thankful if I don’t slash your salary.” Wan Caixuan glared at Lin Xiao. Her indignation added to her charm, “We’ll discuss this after you’ve caught the assassin.”
“Don’t worry. If the assassins dare make a move, I’ll make sure they won’t return.”
Although Lin Xiao didn’t beat his chest and guarantee, his tone was full of confidence.
Arrogance is unearned confidence, while true confidence comes with capability. Lin Xiao, without a doubt, embodied the latter.
Wan Caixuan huffed, her face reddening slightly as a thought crossed her mind.
“That… You’re not planning on following me to the bathroom, are you?”
“Indeed.”
“What did you say?” Wan Caixuan’s eyebrows shot up, anger simmering.
Lin Xiao quickly clarified before Wan Caixuan’s temper flared, “I mean, I’ll wait outside the door, but I won’t enter.”
“That’s more reasonable,” Wan Caixuan said, nodding in satisfaction.
Following their conversation, the awkward tension between the two somewhat subsided.
Wan Caixuan, ignoring Lin Xiao, elegantly walked to the sofa. She lazily reclined, flipping on the television in the process.
Fresh from a bath, her hair was still damp, cascading over her shoulders and partially covering her face. The sight of her dark hair against her beautiful features was breathtaking.
At this moment, she was semi-reclining on the couch, donned in a silk nightgown.
Though this type of nightgown was incredibly comfortable, its fabric was silky soft and could easily become translucent. As she lay there, the nightgown clung to her body, accentuating her tantalizing curves.
Lowering his gaze, Lin Xiao noticed that the hem of her nightgown had ridden up to her thighs, revealing two slender, ivory legs that exuded an irresistible allure.
Lin Xiao had finished thoroughly inspecting the second floor and the attic of the villa. Once assured that there were no security breaches, he returned downstairs.
His eyes fell upon Wan Caixuan, lounging on the sofa, and a touch of surprise flickered in his gaze. It took him a moment to regain his composure. He then disrobed and headed for the bathroom, preparing to completely pull his senses back into focus.
