    Chapter Index

    Night fell.

In a luxurious suite of the Aerospace Hotel, Huang Xinyu lay lazily on the large bed, chatting with Huang Caixing over the phone.

She was still dressed in her blouse and red skirt, with her expensive high heels casually kicked aside. Her long, slender legs were bent at the knees, smooth and enticing like flowing water. Her fair, delicate feet fidgeted restlessly, toenails painted a vibrant crimson, strikingly eye-catching.

Lin Xiao sat on the sofa opposite her, hands resting flat on his thighs, back straight, eyes half-closed. He seemed to have entered a state of deep focus, entirely oblivious to the captivating scene before him.

“Caixing, have you finished your evening self-study?”

Huang Xinyu rolled onto her back, holding the phone in one hand while loosening her hair with the other. Her silky locks cascaded like a waterfall.

    “Have you eaten dinner?”

“Yeah, we’re done. I’m with YuYu right now. We already had dinner at her place,” Huang Caixing’s sweet, crisp voice came through the phone. “Comrade Xinyu, I have a serious question for you, and you need to answer honestly!”

“What question?” For some reason, Huang Xinyu suddenly felt a little guilty.

“You just said Big Brother Lin is with you, right? And neither of you are coming back tonight, right? So, that means you two are spending the night out alone.”

Huang Caixing’s tone was exceptionally stern, like an officer interrogating a suspect.

“Comrade Xinyu, are you secretly dating Big Brother Lin behind my back?”

Huang Xinyu’s heart skipped a beat, and she flatly denied it. “What nonsense are you imagining? How could I possibly be with Lin Xiao? We’re completely innocent. Nothing happened.”

She stole a glance at Lin Xiao, worried he’d overhear. Fortunately, he was still immersed in his cultivation, fully focused and unaware of her conversation.

“Hmph! People who highlight their innocence usually aren’t so innocent.”

Huang Caixing didn’t believe a word of it. The two were natural-born rivals.

“Comrade Xinyu, don’t forget your identity. You must restrain yourself and not flirt with Big Brother Lin. Otherwise, I’ll… I’ll cut ties with you!”

Huang Xinyu was so angry she laughed, grinding her teeth audibly. If Huang Caixing had been in front of her, she’d have surely faced consequences.

“Student Huang Caixing, I think you’ve forgotten your place. Don’t forget, I’m your mom. I feed you, clothe you, and put a roof over your head, and now you’re talking to me like this? Is that how you should speak to your mother?”

“Yes, you’re my mom. But there’s only one Big Brother Lin, and I won’t give him up to anyone, not even you,” Huang Caixing declared matter-of-factly. Then, she asked, “Is Brother Lin nearby?”

“Yes, why?” Huang Xinyu replied irritably.

“YuYu just tried calling him, but she couldn’t get through. Hand the phone to Big Brother Lin. We want to talk to him.”

Huang Caixing made a funny face at the phone, though Huang Xinyu couldn’t see it.

“Xinyu, I bet you want to hit me right now, but you can’t. Hehe…” Rolling her eyes, Huang Xinyu grumbled as she sat up, jumped off the bed, and ran barefoot to Lin Xiao. Huffing, she shoved the phone toward him. “Here, take it.”

Lin Xiao, deep in meditation, finally registered her voice. He slowly opened his eyes, a flash of clarity flickering within them, and looked at her questioningly.

“Don’t look at me. It’s that brat Huang Caixing. She wants to talk to you,” Huang Xinyu muttered sourly.

Lin Xiao took the phone from her. Before he could speak, Huang Caixing’s lively voice came through the receiver.

“Big Brother Lin, did my mom pass you the phone?”

“Yeah,” Lin Xiao replied, a faint smile appearing on his lips.

Noticing his smile, Huang Xinyu pouted and sat beside him, leaning in to eavesdrop.

“Big Brother Lin, is my mom super mad?” Huang Caixing giggled. “I teased her just now. She must be fuming, right?”

“Auntie Xin is definitely upset. What did you say to her?” Lin Xiao glanced at Huang Xinyu, whose flushed face confirmed the truth. He decided not to hold back.

Huang Xinyu heard everything and glared, eyes burning with fury. She almost snatched the phone to scold Huang Caixing but restrained herself.

“Nothing much, just teasing her.” Huang Caixing sounded like an obedient child when speaking to Lin Xiao. “Big Brother Lin, why did you go to Linjin City? I asked YuYu, but she said she didn’t know. She said you left early this morning.”

“Nothing serious. Just helping someone with a small problem,” Lin Xiao replied vaguely, unwilling to worry them or lie outright. “Are you with Little Yu now?”

“Yep, we’re heading home together. We’re sharing a bed tonight. Here, YuYu, say something to Big Brother Lin.”

A few seconds later, Yuan Yu’s gentle, melodious voice came through. “Big Brother Lin, I’m here. Are you okay?”

“Don’t worry. I’m fine. Just stay safe, and I’ll be home tomorrow.” Lin Xiao softened his tone. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now.”

“Wait, Big Brother Lin! I have something important to say!” Huang Caixing cut in urgently.

    “What is it?”

“You have to stay strong and not fall for camarade Xinyu’s tricks. I know she’s pretty, looks like me, and has a great figure, but she’s not me. Don’t mistake her for me…”

    Huang Caixing rambled on endlessly.

    “…”

Lin Xiao was speechless. Her words were getting more outrageous. He quickly interrupted her, not daring to let her continue. Who knew what absurdity she’d spout next?

“Stop overthinking. I’m hanging up. See you tomorrow.”

With that, Lin Xiao decisively ended the call and set down the phone.

“Big Brother Lin hung up on me again!” On the other end, Huang Caixing stomped her foot, lips pouting in frustration.

Standing beside her, Yuan Yu sighed, her delicate face full of helplessness. “You were being completely unreasonable. It’s no wonder he hung up.”

“Was I really that bad?” Huang Caixing blinked innocently. “But I was just speaking my mind.”

“Don’t you trust Auntie Huang?” Yuan Yu glanced at her.

“Nope, I don’t.” Huang Caixing nodded firmly. “A daughter knows her mother best. You wouldn’t understand.”

    “…”

Yuan Yu was utterly defeated by her logic. With a resigned sigh, she asked, “Do you at least trust Big Brother Lin?”

“Of course I do! YuYu, what are you trying to say?”

“Then you should have faith in him. Take me, for example, I’m not worried at all.” Yuan Yu huffed proudly and strutted ahead, leaving Huang Caixing behind.
