Chapter 12: Applying for the Security Position

“Thank you, ma’am.”

After returning the newspaper, Lin Xiao made his way to the address indicated in the job advertisement.

The company hiring bodyguards was situated in another district of Jinghai City, specifically the vibrant central district. Due to his unfamiliarity with the route, Lin Xiao had to switch buses several times, ask numerous people, and after many considerable difficulties, he finally found his destination.

“Jinghai City Central District, No. 3 Baiyun Avenue, Brilliant Tower. This is it.”

Standing at the entrance of the Brilliant Tower, Lin Xiao took in the colossal structure that touched the skies.

The Brilliant Tower was among the iconic structures of Jinghai City and also the tallest building owned by the renowned Brilliant Group of Xia Country.

The Brilliant Group was one of Xia Country’s leading corporations, with business operations across multiple sectors, including the internet, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and real estate, among others. Annually, it contributed tens of billions in taxes, demonstrating its significant influence nationwide, with its headquarters stationed in the capital.

Dressed in simple clothes, Lin Xiao seemed somewhat inappropriate standing in front of this opulent structure.

Especially given the fashionably dressed men and women filtering in and out of the building, who embodied the essence of high society, Lin Xiao’s simple and humble appearance stood out even more.

Ordinary people might lack the courage even to enter the Tower. However, Lin Xiao was undeterred by the surrounding scrutinizing gazes. He confidently strolled in.

Once inside, he dialed the contact number provided in the newspaper. The call was quickly picked up.

“Hello,” a clear voice rang out from the other end.

“Hello, I saw your advertisement for security personnel in the newspaper. I am currently at the Brilliant Tower.”

“Yes, we are indeed hiring security staff. Since you are here already, you can ask the closest security guard. He will guide you to the recruitment area.”

“Okay, thank you.”

After ending the call, Lin Xiao approached a security guard who looked alert. “Hello, I am here to apply for the job. Could you please show me the direction?”

“Applying?”

The security guard appraised Lin Xiao, shook his head, evidently not optimistic about Lin Xiao’s chances. However, the wariness in his eyes lessened somewhat.

“Alright, follow me,” the guard said, preparing to lead Lin Xiao to the interview site.

“Hold on. Who allowed you to casually escort people into the Brilliant Tower? This isn’t a place just anyone can enter.” adisdainful and excited voice interjected, stopping Lin Xiao and the security guard in their tracks.

Lin Xiao’s brows furrowed slightly as he looked up to see a tall, lean man dressed immaculately in a suit and glasses. This man carried an air of a high-ranking white-collar worker, but the sinister glare he directed at Lin Xiao was comically contrasted by the red slap marks on either side of his face.

“It’s you,” Lin Xiao recognized.

This was the very man he had chastised on the public bus just yesterday.

“Ha, yes, it’s me. Bet you didn’t expect to see me here, did you, country boy?” Lu Yufei laughed boisterously. He was pleased to bump into the man he wanted to take revenge on his own turf.

Yesterday, his car had broken down, forcing him to endure the discomfort of a crowded public bus. His mood lifted when he spotted a pretty student. So he used the bustle of the bus to approach her gradually, planning to make his move.

He wasn’t concerned about her resistance. He had toyed with several students in the past using similar tactics. These girls hardly dared to protest.

Things went as planned initially. The student girl continued to dodge and retreat, but there would be a point when she had no space to back away. Just when he was about to seize his opportunity, someone intervened.

Someone dared to ruin his fun and even slapped him.

Lu Yufei instinctively touched his face. His eyes bore into Lin Xiao, filled with hatred.

He had initially planned to take leave because of the slap mark on his face, but pressing matters at the office required his attendance. Once he arrived, he noticed the surprised and amused glances from his colleagues, despite their silence. But this turned out to be a fortunate twist, as it allowed him to cross paths with this man again, setting the stage for his revenge.

“Director Lu, he’s here to apply for a position in our security department,” said the security guard who had brought Lin Xiao to Lu Yufei.

“Security? With his qualifications? A simple country bumpkin like him has no place in our esteemed company,” Lu Yufei scoffed.

“Really? A wolf in sheep’s clothing such as yourself has the audacity to talk about qualifications. Was yesterday’s lesson not enough for you? Do you need a refresher?” Lin Xiao said, a cold smirk on his face.

Lu Yufei was furious at his audacity, especially on his own turf.

“Security, where are you? Teach this country bumpkin a lesson and throw him out of the building,” he commanded in a fit of rage.

On hearing their boss’s order, the security guards surrounding them acted promptly, gathering their circle around Lin Xiao.

The security guard who had escorted Lin Xiao to the recruitment location advised, “It’s better for you to leave voluntarily. Don’t invite unnecessary trouble.”

“What are you waiting for? If you value your jobs, get on with it!” Lu Yufei’s voice echoed.

“I apologize in advance.”

After saying that, the four security guards reached for Lin Xiao’s arms, two on each side, planning to haul him out. However, in the next moment, their eyes bulged wide in shock.

Lin Xiao felt as immovable as a mountain. Despite exerting all their strength, they couldn’t budge him even an inch.

Lin Xiao knew he was unlikely to get the security job. He shot a cold glance at Lu Yufei, who was smirking triumphantly.

Since the situation was irreparable, he decided to give this despicable man a good thrashing. With that in mind, Lin Xiao strode towards Lu Yufei.

“Quick, grab him! Attack him! Hit him hard!”

Lu Yufei, visibly relishing the scene, suddenly felt a shiver down his spine as he met Lin Xiao’s icy gaze. It was as if he was being watched by a prehistoric beast. Seeing Lin Xiao approaching him, he called out frantically to the security guards.

Yet, despite the four guards clutching his arms, their faces flushed from exertion and heavy panting, they were unable to hinder Lin Xiao’s movement.

Lin Xiao was getting ominously closer to Lu Yufei.

“You worthless fools, hit him! Hit him hard! I’ll reward a month’s salary to whoever lands a hit!” Lu Yufei shouted, retreating hastily.

Hearing this, one security guard let go of Lin Xiao’s arm, raised his baton high, and swung it with all his might toward Lin Xiao’s arm.

A chill flashed in Lin Xiao’s eyes. He sidestepped the attack and retaliated with a fierce kick to the guard’s abdomen.

With a resounding thud, Lin Xiao sent the bulky, muscular security guard flying to the ground, where he cried out in agony.

Lin Xiao’s powerful kick not only made the three other security guards release his arms out of fear but also left them secretly relieved that they had resisted the temptation of the promised reward.

Meanwhile, Lu Yufei was nearly wetting himself in fear. He hadn’t anticipated Lin Xiao’s formidable combat skills. A few tall, burly security guards were unable to halt Lin Xiao’s relentless advance.

Lu Yufei was petrified, especially as Lin Xiao steadily approached him.

In desperation, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number, yelling, “Security room, security room, there’s trouble in the lobby! Get here now!”

After his call, he stepped back, picking up a baton and positioning it defensively before him, his face a picture of terror as he watched Lin Xiao.

Lin Xiao was unfazed by Lu Yufei’s fear. This human scum deserved no mercy.

However, just as he was about to launch an attack, a resonant female voice rang out. “What’s going on here?”
