Chapter 139: Stunned
by tinytree“Police? You didn’t seem to remember that you were a policeman when you were distorting the truth and abusing your authority just a moment ago. Only now do you remember your position?” Lin Xiao spoke, his tone dripping with icy contempt.
Lin Xiao, who was normally composed, became visibly angry. Without hesitation, he brandished the electric baton in his hand and struck it down upon the overweight man. He had no intention of showing leniency to such a scum.
“Ah!!”
A piercing, agonized scream erupted from the overweight man as he began to flail uncontrollably. Concurrently, a nauseating stench of urine began to waft from him.
Lin Xiao’s face tightened in a subtle expression of distaste. He noticed a significant wet patch on the man’s trousers. It appeared that the man had not been bluffing. He hit him once and lost control of his bladder from the shock.
“You… stay back! This is a police station,” warned the skinny man, his face pallid as he looked at his convulsing colleague on the floor and then at Lin Xiao, who was advancing toward him, step by step.
“A police station? Your very presence tarnishes the sanctuary of justice,” Lin Xiao declared coldly. Wasting no further words, he lunged forward and swung the baton with force.
The skinny man had no time to react. Following a scream, he too lay twitching on the ground.

Meanwhile, outside the interrogation room, Zhao Cheng was conversing with Le Fangyun, “Young Master Le, rest assured, those two are seasoned interrogators. Dealing with a mere bodyguard will be child’s play for them.”
Somewhat pleased, Le Fangyun nodded, “Don’t worry, Captain Zhao. Manage this situation for me, and you will be handsomely rewarded.”
Zhao Cheng’s eyes sparkled at Le Fangyun’s words. In his mind, establishing ties with Le Fangyun meant that promotion and riches were practically within reach.
“Of course, Young Master Le, consider it handled,” Zhao Cheng assured him, bowing his head in agreement.
Le Fangyun said nothing more. Eager to witness Lin Xiao’s humiliation, he glanced at the time and announced, “Captain Zhao, it’s about time. I’ll head into the interrogation room now.”
Upon seeing Le Fangyun’s impatience, Zhao Cheng realized that he intended to personally torment Lin Xiao.
Nevertheless, he felt not an ounce of guilt. The only emotion coursing through him was anticipation. The more wretched Lin Xiao was, the happier Young Master Le would be, and the more likely Zhao Cheng’s own efforts would be recognized.
“Young Master Le, shall we go together?” Zhao Cheng suggested, a smile gracing his features.
The pair strolled over to the interrogation room, talking and laughing as they went. Though the room was well soundproofed, they could still faintly hear sporadic screams emanating from within.
“Excellent, very excellent,” Le Fangyun commended, his eyes glowing with satisfaction.
Zhao Cheng grinned with a touch of pride. Clearly, he had chosen the right people for the job. They were highly efficient.
However, the moment they swung open the door to the interrogation room, their smiles froze on their faces. Inside, Lin Xiao–who they had assumed would be in terrible shape–was perfectly fine. He sat casually on the desk, holding an electric baton. Meanwhile, the two officers meant to be interrogating him, the fat one and the thin one, were writhing on the floor, their faces twisted in agony and emitting horrific screams.
Lin Xiao noticed Le Fangyun and Zhao Cheng entering the room and responded with a cold, mocking smile.
“You dare to assault police officers?” Zhao Cheng roared, glaring at Lin Xiao, who still wore that infuriating smirk.
Zhao Cheng was simultaneously puzzled and outraged. He distinctly remembered Lin Xiao being handcuffed. How had he managed to break free?
“Assault the police? Which eye of yours saw me doing that? Be careful with your accusations. Without evidence, you shouldn’t make such claims,” Lin Xiao said with a sneer.
“You still dare to deny it, given their condition?” Zhao Cheng snapped, fuming.
“They’re fine. If you don’t believe me, have them checked at a hospital. You won’t find a scratch,” Lin Xiao calmly assured.
He was no fool. He knew that assaulting a police officer was a grave offense. Though he was aware that these cops were corrupt and in league with Le Fangyun, admitting to the crime would simply offer them a legitimate reason to act against him.
Zhao Cheng looked at the two officers twitching on the ground and said nothing. He was well aware of the properties of the electric batons used in the interrogation room. He knew that even though these men seemed grievously hurt, a medical examination would reveal no injury.
Just then, Le Fangyun bellowed, “What are you waiting for? Attack him with me! I want this scum to wish he were dead.”
At this point, his emotions were in turmoil. He had initially come to relish the sight of Lin Xiao’s suffering and regret. Now, however, not only was Lin Xiao unharmed, but he was also audaciously defiant.
He was utterly consumed by his own fury.
The police officers following him shot a glance at their superior, Zhao Cheng, upon hearing Le Fangyun’s inflammatory words.
Zhao Cheng eyed the visibly unhinged Le Fangyun, hesitating briefly. But he quickly steeled himself, a determined glint appearing in his eyes.
“Move in, follow my lead,” he commanded.
By uttering these words, he was well aware that he had symbolically torn off the police uniform he wore. While it had been evident to anyone with a discerning eye that he had been favoring Le Fangyun, he had at least maintained an image of professionalism.
Even if questionable tactics had been used during interrogation, it was the work of the two inept officers lying on the ground screaming, not him. At worst, he could be accused of poor judgment. Should anything go awry, he felt confident that he could distance himself from the incident and face only minor disciplinary repercussions.
Zhao Cheng’s prudence wasn’t solely due to Lin Xiao. Being meticulous in his considerations was a long-standing habit and the very reason he had ascended step by step to his current rank.
Yet now, by giving that order, he irrevocably bound this incident to himself. He harbored no regrets. After all, to neutralize a mere bodyguard while solidifying his ties with one of Jinghai City’s most influential young masters seemed like a worthwhile trade-off.
Though the officers were somewhat reluctant, they couldn’t defy their superior’s explicit instructions. Gritting their teeth, they lunged forward.
Le Fangyun watched with a self-satisfied grin as the officers aggressively closed in on Lin Xiao. Despite knowing that Lin Xiao was formidable, they were still in a police station. He couldn’t fathom that this lowly bodyguard would dare to assault police officers right under their watchful eyes. In his mind, the man must have already been paralyzed with fear.
Similarly, Zhao Cheng couldn’t conceive that Lin Xiao would actually strike back. This was, after all, a police station. He coldly fixed his eyes on Lin Xiao, anticipating the moment Lin Xiao would admit his guilt.
What they both failed to realize was the true identity of Lin Xiao–a bona fide soldier.
The captain of the Dragon Sword Squad, renowned in the underworld as the Night Emperor.
A man unswayed by petty intimidation.
In the next instant, Lin Xiao took decisive action, delivering a resounding slap to their collective faces, leaving them utterly dumbfounded.
With no hesitation, Lin Xiao made his move. In a split second, the auxiliary officers who had circled him were sent sprawling, tumbling through the air and scattering in all directions.
