Chapter 178: It’s Just Your Bad Luck!
by tinytree“Big Sister, should we call someone to drag this jerk out and feed him to the dogs?” Chi Feier asked with an air of innocence, but her suggestion was shockingly venomous.
Despite their demure appearance, each of these girls was a little terror at heart. Backed by their families’ wealth and power, they had roamed unchecked, causing chaos wherever they went. But since following Li Yunxi, they had toned down their antics somewhat, but only just.
Lin Xiao was taken aback by the unexpected viciousness of these seemingly docile girls, giving Li Yunxi a meaningful look, thinking to himself, ‘Birds of a feather flock together, after all.’
“Don’t rush. We should first find out more about this guy before deciding what to do with him,” Li Yunxi, well-versed in handling such scenarios as the ringleader of these young ruffians, said, “Manager Zhao, are you still there?”
Shaking, Manager Zhao appeared at the door, her complexion ghostly pale, offering a smile more sorrowful than tears, “Miss Li, I… I’m here.”
“Where’s this guy from?” Li Yunxi leaned an arm on Lin Xiao’s shoulder, nudging Mr. Qian with her toe.
Manager Zhao turned even paler, casting a wary glance at Lin Xiao before saying anxiously, “Sir… you… You’ve really stirred up trouble now!”
“Oh?” Lin Xiao’s eyebrows arched subtly.
“Manager Zhao, I’m speaking to you.” Li Yunxi’s impatience showed as she frowned, “Be clear, what trouble has he stirred up? Is there anything in Jinghai City I can’t handle?”
Manager Zhao swallowed nervously, glancing cautiously at the miserably defeated Mr. Qian on the ground. She hesitated, her mouth opening and closing as if she was struggling to decide whether to speak.
Lin Xiao recognized her fear of Mr. Qian, who, to him, was nothing more than an ant but evidently a figure of untouchable stature to Manager Zhao.
With a swift kick to the back of Mr. Qian’s head, his eyes rolled back as he collapsed to the ground, rendered unconscious by Lin Xiao’s forceful strike. Then Lin Xiao proceeded to the doorway, applying the same treatment to the henchman, knocking him out as well.
“Now, you can talk.”
Returning to the room with his hands casually placed in his pockets, Lin Xiao prompted, “What exactly is the story behind this, Mr. Qian?”
Lin Xiao’s ruthless measures and his composed expression evoked a sense of fear in Manager Zhao. It dawned on her that the unremarkable young man before her was far from ordinary, but rather a merciless character who held Mr. Qian in no regard. Moreover, his relationship with Miss Li Yunxi was not shallow.
Mr. Qian might have had a significant background, but it was clear Miss Li Yunxi had an even greater one.
Manager Zhao, proficient in navigating the dynamics of a luxury club, quickly made her decision, opting to firmly align herself with Li Yunxi.
“This individual, Qian Yong, is a top figure in the underground scene of Zhenjiang District, a big player in that area,” Manager Zhao relayed briskly, pouring out all she knew. “He supposedly came here today to entertain a guest. The identity of the guest is unknown to me. The boss was the one who personally attended to them, but it must have been someone of considerable stature, given Mr. Qian’s deferential manner. They had initially reserved a different room, but Mr. Qian, in his drunken state, stumbled into this one and ran into Miss Li and the others. If the people who came with him find out about the trouble he’s caused here, they certainly won’t take it lightly.”
“A local thug?” Lin Xiao pressed Manager Zhao for more, “What is this Qian Yong like normally?”
A look of loathing crossed Manager Zhao’s face as if she was remembering something dreadful. She said through clenched teeth, “He’s an absolute beast. A scam! He’s committed endless atrocities, he ruined countless people.”
“If that’s the case, then it’s simple.”
Lin Xiao approached the unconscious Qian Yong, lifted his foot, and aimed it at Qian Yong’s arm, ready to stomp down.
For such a degenerate, there was no room for politeness. If Lin Xiao hadn’t been present, the girls in this room would have been subjected to Qian Yong’s harassment. And because Li Yunxi was not just any ordinary girl, if they had been regular girls, they might have been directly violated, and their lives could have been irrevocably damaged.
Thus, Lin Xiao resolved to break all of Qian Yong’s limbs to ensure he could no longer harm anyone.
“Stop!”
At that moment, an angry shout erupted from outside the room.
Yet, Lin Xiao’s movement didn’t halt for even a second. He stepped down decisively on Qian Yong’s arm, snapping it with a crack.
Qian Yong screamed in pain, his eyes flaring open, jolted awake by the intense pain.
He began to curse incoherently, his eyes bloodshot and wild, looking as if he wanted to consume Lin Xiao whole, flesh and bone.
But Lin Xiao’s focus had already shifted from Qian Yong. His foot pinned down Qian Yong’s arm, but his eyes were on the group approaching from outside the room.
The group was led by a corpulent middle-aged man in a suit, followed by a cadre of men in security uniforms, each wielding a long baton.
Upon seeing Lin Xiao break Qian Yong’s arm, a surge of anger flashed in the middle-aged man’s eyes. He gestured, and the security guards rushed to encircle Lin Xiao.
With unexpected agility for his size, the middle-aged man hurried to Qian Yong’s side, his voice tinged with urgency and fear, “Mr. Qian, are you alright?”
Qian Yong, with his eyes bulging, lifted his uncrushed hand to point at Lin Xiao, screaming hysterically and with a distorted face, “Beat him to death for me!”
Though his words were breathy and muffled, the middle-aged man grasped the meaning.
“Kid, haven’t you gone too far?” The middle-aged man stood, staring down Lin Xiao with a cold glare, his demeanor hostile, “Daring to treat Mr. Qian like this, who gave you such courage? Didn’t you know that fighting is prohibited here? Kneel and apologize to Mr. Qian immediately.”
His blatant favoritism toward Qian Yong was so overt that Lin Xiao found it beneath him to even engage.
“Wang Dalong, have you gone blind?” Li Yunxi emerged from behind Lin Xiao, her face adorned with a scornful smirk, “This scumbag got what was coming from me. What are you going to do about it?”
Upon seeing Li Yunxi, Wang Dalong’s expression instantly shifted, cursing his luck internally.
He was the owner of the Perfect Life Club, fully aware of Li Yunxi’s frequent visits and her status.
Before he rushed here, he was only informed that Mr. Qian had been assaulted, oblivious to the incident’s context or Li Yunxi’s involvement.
Qian Yong, a prominent figure in Zhenjiang District’s underworld, was someone he couldn’t afford to cross. Furthermore, he understood that Qian Yong was hosting a guest from Jinghai City’s rising underworld force, implying that Qian Yong’s influence was poised to expand with such powerful backing.
Yet, Li Yunxi’s family also wielded considerable power in Jinghai City.
He couldn’t afford to offend either party.
At this moment, Wang Dalong cursed the person who had informed him about the incident. Had he known Li Yunxi was present, he wouldn’t have intervened, even at the risk of being beaten to death.
“Miss Li, please, this isn’t a joking matter. This situation has nothing to do with you,” Wang Dalong had no choice but to put on a brave face and attempt a conciliatory smile, “It’s all a misunderstanding—”
“Misunderstanding your mom!” Li Yunxi sharply cut off Wang Dalong, her brows knitted in anger, “This bastard dared to mess with me. You think I’ll just let him off?”
Even after Lin Xiao’s beating, Qian Yong remained ignorant of Li Yunxi’s true identity.
Otherwise, not even with a hundredfold courage would he dare to harass Li Yunxi. But now, consumed by hatred and rage, Qian Yong only had eyes for Lin Xiao, deaf to any reasoning, fervently gesturing at Lin Xiao and bellowing, demanding Wang Dalong to act.
Wang Dalong glanced between Qian Yong and Li Yunxi, trapped in indecision, his thoughts in disarray.
In this predicament, his attention shifted to Lin Xiao, sparking a cunning idea.
Lin Xiao, with his plain dress and ordinary looks, lacked any standout presence, appearing to be someone of no consequence.
Opting to target him instead of crossing Qian Yong and Li Yunxi seemed like the safer choice. Surely, Li Yunxi wouldn’t jeopardize their relationship over just some man?
Given Li Yunxi’s well-known disdain for men, this young man was likely just one of her hangers-on, with no deep connection to her. And was this young man innocent? Well, that was irrelevant to Wang Dalong, who was far from being a naive newcomer to the ways of the world. Survival of the fittest.
‘It’s simply your bad luck, not my problem,’ he reasoned.
With this thought, Wang Dalong’s eyes took on a cunning look, feigning righteous indignation, “Miss Li, I wouldn’t dare meddle in your dispute with Mr. Qian, nor do I have the right. But this young man has assaulted a guest in my club. As the owner, I cannot just stand by. I owe Mr. Qian an explanation.”
The truth was apparent to all, yet Wang Dalong twisted it to blame Lin Xiao.
Truly, there was no defeating sheer shamelessness.
Li Yunxi, seething with anger and about to retort, was preempted by Wang Dalong who, pointing at Lin Xiao, bellowed, “Take him!”
“I’d like to see who dares!”
At that moment, an angry voice echoed from behind the crowd.
