Chapter 237: Buying a Car
by tinytreeIn the following days, there were significant changes at Brilliant Aya Limited. The company was in a state of upheaval, with constant news of someone or another being dismissed.
But none of this had anything to do with Lin Xiao.
What really made Lin Xiao uncomfortable was the strange look Wan Caixuan had been giving him. She seemed to want to say something, but always stopped short.
Fortunately, both Wan Caixuan and Ning Xi had been very busy at the company, so Lin Xiao rarely saw them.
Because Wan Caixuan was so busy these days, Lin Xiao, who was supposed to protect her, found himself with a lot of free time. He spent most of it visiting Auntie Yuan in the hospital.
Thanks to the special medication, Auntie Yuan’s condition had greatly improved. Her complexion and spirit were much better, which lifted a heavy weight off Lin Xiao’s heart.
Time passed quickly, and soon it was Sunday, Yuan Yu’s day off.
“Little Yu, let’s go buy a car tomorrow,” Lin Xiao said.
“Mm, okay.” Yuan Yu nodded happily.
Ever since she heard that Lin Xiao was going to buy a car, she had been looking forward to it like any young girl would.
Now that it was really happening, she was very excited.
Growing up, due to her family’s circumstances, she usually got around by bicycle or bus. Even when she did get to ride in a car, it was always someone else’s, and she was always very careful not to make a mess.
The thought of soon owning a car for her family made Yuan Yu very happy.
Seeing Yuan Yu’s excited face, Lin Xiao gently patted her head. He felt a bit heartbroken. He knew that before he came along, her life had been tough and frugal because of her mother’s illness.
Forget about a car; even buying a new piece of clothing worth just a few dozen yuan was something she had to think about for a long time.
“Little Yu, don’t worry. I won’t let you suffer anymore,” Lin Xiao silently made this promise as he looked at Yuan Yu’s radiant smile.
The next day, after completing his morning training and breakfast, Lin Xiao was ready to go.
Yuan Yu, full of excitement, grabbed Lin Xiao’s arm as they walked out of the house.
“Brother Lin, what kind of car are we going to buy?”
“Let’s get a good one,” Lin Xiao said. He didn’t have strong preferences for cars, but he figured they should get a decent one.
“Won’t that be too expensive?” Yuan Yu’s face scrunched up with worry.
Lin Xiao couldn’t help but laugh. He playfully tapped her nose and said, “Don’t worry, little money-keeper. We’ve got enough.”
“Big Brother Lin, you worked so hard for that money, and we—”
Yuan Yu started to say something more, but before she could finish, Lin Xiao’s phone rang.
“Hey, Big Brother Lin! What are you up to? Didn’t you say you were going to buy a car? We have the day off,” Huang Caixing’s lively voice burst through the phone as soon as he answered.
“Yeah, Little Yu and I are planning to buy a car today. Do you want to join us?” Lin Xiao hadn’t seen Huang Caixing for a few days.
Although they talked on the phone every night, he missed the lively, adorable girl. Ever since Huang Caixing stayed over at Yuan Yu’s house and Lin Xiao taught her some self-defense moves, she had been calling him every night to ask questions.
“Of course I want to go! Where are you guys now?”
On the other end of the line, Huang Caixing jumped out of bed and started getting dressed in a hurry.
“Let’s meet at the entrance of Little Yu’s apartment complex.”
“Okay, Big Brother Lin, wait for me. I’ll be there soon,” Huang Caixing quickly hung up the phone.
Behind Lin Xiao, Yuan Yu glanced up at him. She had overheard his conversation with Huang Caixing and couldn’t help but pout her lips. She could almost be certain that once Huang Caixing arrived, she would monopolize Brother Lin’s attention, leaving her out.
‘No way, Big Brother Lin is mine. I can’t let Caixing steal him!’
With this thought, Yuan Yu felt a sudden sense of urgency. She clung even tighter to Lin Xiao’s arm.
Lin Xiao, unaware of Yuan Yu’s thoughts, just assumed she was getting more comfortable around him. He gently squeezed her small hand in response.
Yuan Yu’s hand was soft and delicate, like a piece of cotton. Lin Xiao held it so carefully, afraid to exert any pressure for fear of hurting her.
Hand in hand, they soon reached the entrance of the apartment complex.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Huang Xinyu’s red Ferrari pulled up. The car door opened, and Huang Caixing hopped out.
Not long after, her mother, Huang Xinyu, also stepped out of the car.
“Caixing, Auntie Xin,” Lin Xiao and Yuan Yu walked over to greet them.
“Auntie Xin, why did you come along with Caixing?”
“I’m on my way to work, and it’s on the way,” Huang Xinyu said, checking her watch.
She then turned to Lin Xiao, “Caixing told me you’re buying a car today. Do you need a recommendation?”
“Thanks, but I’d prefer to handle it myself,” Lin Xiao shook his head.
Huang Xinyu didn’t insist. She could tell he was quite decisive.
“Alright then. After you buy the car, come over to our house with Yuan Yu. I’ll cook for you all.”
“Wouldn’t that be too much trouble for you?” Lin Xiao hesitated.
“Last time, you took Caixing to the beach while I was on a business trip. This time I’m home, and I need to express my gratitude for what you did at the mall,” Huang Xinyu said, giving Lin Xiao a playful glance. The gesture made her look exceptionally charming. “No refusals. It’s settled.”
