Chapter 328: Request
by tinytree“You didn’t take part in the fights?” Lin Xiao asked.
“No, of course not.” Old Jin shook his head repeatedly. “But since they’re now holding an underground tournament to decide the ownership of Hundred Seat Society’s territory and businesses, why shouldn’t I send someone to participate? After all, it was you who took down the Hundred Seat Society. Their territory should rightfully belong to you. Even if you don’t want it, we can’t just let outsiders take it, can we?”
Hearing this, Lin Xiao more or less understood Old Jin’s intentions.
He was likely unsure about the tournament and wanted Lin Xiao to oversee things.
However, with Lin Xiao’s strength and status, there was no way he would participate in such an event.
Lin Xiao could crush the fighters in that underground tournament with a single finger.
Still, he wanted to see what Old Jin would say. If Old Jin truly harbored such thoughts, then his usefulness as a pawn was limited.
“You want me to fight in the tournament for you?”
Old Jin was momentarily stunned, then shook his head furiously, like a rattling drum. “Boss Lin, you must be joking! How could I dare ask you to do that? I’ve already found a few skilled fighters. I was hoping you could take a look and give me some pointers.”
Lin Xiao was quite satisfied with Old Jin’s tactfulness. He nodded. “Alright.”
“Boss Lin, you’re agreeing?” Lin Xiao’s straightforward response left Old Jin somewhat in disbelief.
“That’s right.” Lin Xiao was concise. “I have nothing else to do anyway. I can take a look. Lead the way.”
Overjoyed, Old Jin rushed to his Mercedes, respectfully opening the car door.
“Boss Lin, please get in.”
After Lin Xiao got in, one of the underlings was about to take the driver’s seat when Old Jin kicked him aside.
“Go, go! Get in the other car. I’ll personally drive for Boss Lin.”
The underling shot Old Jin a resentful look, rubbed his backside, and walked to the car behind them.
Old Jin drove the black Mercedes smoothly out of Maple Leaf Street. In the backseat, Lin Xiao sat with his eyes half-closed, his gaze lowered, breathing slow and steady, unmoving like a mountain.
About half an hour later, the car arrived at Zhenjiang District and stopped in front of a nightclub. Old Jin quickly got out and opened the door for Lin Xiao.
Lin Xiao was already used to Old Jin’s obsequiousness. Since Old Jin insisted on acting this way, Lin Xiao simply accepted it.
Old Jin led the way into the nightclub.
Since it was daytime, there were hardly any customers inside. A few young women, wearing heavy makeup, curiously observed Lin Xiao.
“Look, the boss brought in a young guy.”
“And he’s personally leading the way. That kid must be someone important.”
“I’ve never seen the boss treat anyone this respectfully before. Last time, a rich second-generation heir came to spend money here, but the boss didn’t even bother to acknowledge him.”
Their whispered discussions reached Lin Xiao’s ears, but he didn’t even glance at them, walking straight past as if they didn’t exist.
He had no particular dislike for these women who had fallen into this lifestyle, but no fondness either.
Old Jin had been carefully observing Lin Xiao’s expression. After spending some time around him, he had begun to grasp Lin Xiao’s temperament.
Lin Xiao was quite easygoing. It was just that his immense strength and unreadable expressions naturally gave him an intimidating presence.
Presence was something that couldn’t be seen but undeniably existed.
For example, people who held power for long periods developed an aura distinct from ordinary folk. Sometimes, a mere glance from them could be enough to make others shrink back. This was the so-called unspoken authority.
But Lin Xiao’s presence didn’t come from holding power, it came from his history of being undefeated and unstoppable.
“Boss Lin, see anyone you like?” Old Jin slowed his pace, moving closer to Lin Xiao, chuckling in a way all men understood.
Lin Xiao said nothing, merely giving Old Jin a faint glance.
Old Jin instantly shut his mouth, his smile vanishing, not daring to utter another word.
Just then, Lin Xiao’s phone vibrated in his pocket.
He took it out, glanced at the number, and a strange expression flickered across his face. After a slight hesitation, he pressed the answer button.
“Lin Xiao, where are you? What are you doing? Haven’t seen you in days! This lady here misses you.”
The moment the call connected, Li Yunxi’s bold and energetic voice rang out.
“I’m at a nightclub—” Lin Xiao had just said a few words before being cut off.
“What?! You actually went to a nightclub? It’s only been a few days, and you’ve already turned into one of those sleazy men?” Li Yunxi exclaimed. “Which nightclub?”
Her voice was loud enough that even Old Jin, standing beside Lin Xiao, could hear it.
Old Jin discreetly took a few steps back to distance himself, ensuring Lin Xiao wouldn’t think he was eavesdropping.
“You’re misunderstanding—” Lin Xiao said helplessly.
“I don’t care if I misunderstood. Just tell me which nightclub you’re at. I’m coming over right now.” Li Yunxi’s voice was fierce over the phone.
“Fine, come if you want. Night Bay Nightclub, Zhenjiang District.” Lin Xiao couldn’t be bothered to explain. With her impulsive personality, she wouldn’t listen anyway.
The moment he finished speaking, the sound of a car engine roaring to life came through the phone, followed by the call being cut off.
Lin Xiao stared at his phone, speechless.
“Boss Lin, is everything alright?” Old Jin asked cautiously, reading the situation.
“It’s fine. Let’s go.” Lin Xiao put away his phone, his expression returning to its usual unreadable state. “I might have a friend coming later. Make sure your men don’t stop her.”
“Understood.” Old Jin waved over an underling, whispered a few instructions, and the underling nodded repeatedly before hurrying off.
After handling this, Old Jin led Lin Xiao to the second floor of the nightclub, stopping in front of a luxurious suite. He reached out and pushed the door open.
Inside, four people stood scattered around the room. They varied in height and build—one had his hands in his pockets, another had his arms crossed, one wore a cold smirk, and another remained expressionless.
But one thing was the same—they all exuded a strong air of hostility, their stances full of animosity toward each other.
As soon as Old Jin opened the door, four sharp gazes instantly locked onto him.
Their eyes were all focused on Old Jin. As for Lin Xiao, who followed behind him, they instinctively ignored him.
Lin Xiao’s ability to conceal his presence was too refined. He appeared no different from an ordinary person, making these four naturally assume he was just one of Old Jin’s lackeys.
A burly man with a towering physique grinned, “Old Jin, you finally showed up. I thought you’d changed your mind.”
